So Small

Christopher's POV

"Hey! Jax!" I yell at my best friend. She smiles at me and waves to me. I rush over and try not to slip on the ice. It's winter time and very cold and icy, so we must be careful when walking to school, but, thankfully, today we have a snowday, and don't have school. She matches the winter time perfectly. It's her season. It belongs to her. We walk to the park, so we can hang out. We run over to the swings and brush the snow off of them. We get of them and start to swing. "I bet I can swing higher than you." She gives me a determined look.
"No, I think I can swing higher than you and sustain that height," she says very determined.
"You're on," I tell her. We both start to swing as hard and as fast as we can. We are both going the same height and are swinging next to each other. "Look we're double dating." We laugh. Nobody else is outside, since it is so cold. We sit there and just swing talking to each other. Both of us forget about the bet.
"I bet I can jump farther than you," she declares. I shake my head.
"Nope, I can totally jump farther," I argue, "We'll jump at the same time to see who is the farther jumper." She nods. "3. 2. 1." We both jump off of the swings and land on our asses. She jumped about an inch farther than me. "Looks like you win."
"Nah, we tied, again," she tells me. Even though she was the winner I accepted the tie. She probably didn't want me to feel bad. She's so nice. She stands up and holds out her hand for me to grab. I reach up to grab it, but I can't reach it. I finally get a grip on her hand and she pulls me up, but it wasn't her standing in front of me, it was Josh. Josh and Jason were both standing in front of me. They start smiling at me. Their eyes start turning black. Not just their irises, the white parts of their eyes start going black. Veins form around their eyes as well, but just like their eyes, the veins are black. Their smiles turn from kind to sinister.
"Come with us Christopher," they say in a monotone tone.
I wake up and shoot up. My breathing is heavy and sweat is dripping from my entire body. That dream again. I put my head in my hands.
"Why do I keep having this dream?" I whisper to myself, "What does it even mean?" I'll text her to see if she's awake. I grab my phone. It's ice cold to the touch. The time reads 3:30 a.m.. I message her.

C: Hello, are you awake?

I sit and wait a couple minutes. There is no answer. I fall back onto my pillow and put my phone on my chest. I go over the dream again and again. I imagine every detail, from each snowflake to the black veins on Jason and Josh's faces. My phone buzzes and I check it.

RP: Sorry, I was sleeping, but I'm awake now, I guess.

C: I'm sorry for bothering you.

RP: Don't be sorry, is there a reason why you are texting me at 3:30?

C: Yeah, there is a reason.

RP: Which is?

C: Do you remember me?

RP: What do you mean?

C: From first grade, do you remember me from then?

RP: No.

C: I understand.

RP: Why?

C: You used to be my best friend.

RP: Wait, what?

C: Yup.

RP: Stop fucking with me. It isn't funny.

C: I'm not joking.

RP: Prove it.

C: I'll come over to your house.

RP: Right now?

C: Yes.

RP: Okay and how will that prove anything?

C: You'll see when I get there. Meet me at your window in ten minutes.

RP: I'm on the second floor.

C: I know. I'll see you in about ten minutes.

I jump out of my bed and grab a picture in a dark frame. I jump out my window and run as fast as I can to her house. I find the way onto the roof, just like I did when I was little. I knocked on her window. She opens it.
"How the hell did you get on my roof?" She whisper yells.
"The way we always would," I answer, "can I come in?" She pulls me inside her bedroom. She shuts her window and crosses her arms. "Okay, this might be crazy to you, but it not to me."
"What's that in your hand?" she asks me. I flip on the light and walk over to her.
"This is my proof," I tell her. It's a picture of us. It was the only snow day in first grade. The picture was taken when we got back to my house that day. We looked extremely cold, but happy. Our hair was covered in many snowflakes and our coats and pants were wet. We looked, so young in the picture. She had a pink hello kitty winter coat on, while I had a plain dark blue coat on. We had matching black winter boot on as well.
"That's me," she mumbles, "how did you get that photo?"
"My mom took it," I answer. I smile at her. She looks at me and gives me a slight smile.
"Why can't I remember you then?" she asks me. I shrug my shoulder and head back to the window.
"Goodnight, Miss River," I say, while opening the window.
"Why aren't you calling me Jax?" she asks.
"I can if you'd like that," I tell her.
"You call all of your friends by their first name, so call me Jax," she says.
"I will, goodnight, Jax," I say stepping out of the window.
"Goodnight," she says back. I jump down and walk back to my house. I climb back into my bedroom window again. That was super creepy. I legit just climbed into someone's house through their window. I crawl back into bed and go back to sleep.

(A/n) I hope you liked this chapter. I know it sucks, but here you go anyway. Please give me your feedback and peace. ~Tiny
