Searching
Jax's POV
"Really? Do you think us kids could really figure out who murdered him?" Christopher asks Toby in disbelief. Toby nods excitedly.
"Unless you are scared," Toby says trying to pull off a deep voice. He claps his hands together. "Who's in?"
"We are!" Jason and Josh say with excitement. Toby smiles an then looks at Christopher.
"What about you, Mistopher Christopher?" Toby asks. Mistopher Christopher? Why?
"Please don't call me that. My answer is no," he answers. Toby gives him a devilish smile.
"Why?" Toby asks him, "is it because you murdered him?" Toby cocks his head to the side. His grin grows larger. Christopher shakes his head.
"No, I didn't murder him," Christopher reassures. Toby makes a clicking sound three times.
"Prove it by helping us," Toby pushes. Christopher looks at the table. He didn't do it, but I can't say anything because I was involved in the murder. It is my fault he is dead, so if I say something then I'll get caught. I can't get caught. I'll be sent to jail. It's terrible there. I can't imagine how terrible it is there.
"We'll both do it," I force out. Christopher turns to me with a shocked expression.
"Lovely, we'll start searching after school!" Toby exclaims. He gets up and walks into a classroom. I don't remember what classroom it is, so I don't really care.
"Um, what makes Toby think that we'll be able to find the murderer?" I ask choking on every word. Christopher looks away. He is making it look like he is guilty, but why?
"Toby is a very skilled detective's son, so I'm guessing he believes that he will be able to find out who Jeremy's killer is," Josh answers. Right when he finishes his sentence the bell rings. We all get up and head to our next class. The rest of the day was just like the morning, boring. The final class ends and I start to walk to the front of thee school to meet the others. I'm stopped by someone grabbing me and shoving me into a dark room. Quickly, the person closes the door behind us. I'm pretty sure it's a storage closet, but I'm not to sure.
"Hello, Jax," I'm greeted by a slightly high pitch voice, "can you help me?" Help him? Why would he want me to help him? He just met me, what use could I bring to him?
"Help you with what?" I ask in a scared tone.
"Oh, did I scare you? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, but to answer your question I'll need to explain to you why," the high pitch male says. I nod. Wait, it's super dark in here. There is no way that he saw that.
"Please just tell me what it is," I demand desperately.
"Well, I believe that Christopher is Jeremy's murderer, so while we are trying to figure out who the murderer is I would like you to try to get it out of him. You'll still be working with us trying to figure out who murdered our friend, but you'll also be trying to get Christopher to confess," Toby explains.
"I agree to do it, but what if Christopher didn't murder Jeremy?" I ask. Toby giggles.
"Nothing will happen then. We'll just have to get our next suspect," he answers. He opens the door and we both walk out. He guides me over to the rest of the group. "Are we ready to go?" They nod and I walk next to Christopher. We start walking. Toby takes the lead and leads us down the path to the park. Painful memories plow through my head, but I push on.
It doesn't take us long to get to the park. For some reason it isn't blocked off.
"Here we are!" Toby announces cheerfully, "lets get to work! Try to find clues. Any clue will help bring us one step closer to this murderer!" The only problem is that I was the one who put his phone here. I didn't murder him, Unknown did. It'll be hard to prove that Unknow did this, since he was not over here, but I might get caught. The guilt slides down the back of my neck. It's sharp. What did I get myself involved with? I turn to Christopher.
"Who do you think murdered Jeremy?" I ask him. He looks at me dead in the eyes.
"I'm not sure, since there is no evidence pointing to anyone," he answers. I can hear Toby sigh quietly. He was probably hoping to get an answer, so he can point fingers at him even more. This continued for the rest of the search. We look and I'd ask Christopher a question. He'd answer and then Toby would sigh. It was super annoying.
We search for a good three hours before giving up for the day.
"Tomorrow I'll ask if we can search where they found the note and blood, but for now I have to head home," Toby says. He waves and leaves.
"This is boring, so I'm heading home too," Josh announces. He turns and leaves.
"Wait for me!" Jason yells, while running to catch up with him. I look at Christopher.
"Do you think I did it?" he asks me. I shake my head. "Thank you."
"There is no way you would ever kill someone," I tell him. A small smile starts forming on his face.
"Do you think we'll catch this murderer?" he asks me. I shake my head, again. Unknown seems like a very skilled killer, so there is a slim chance that he'll get caught. Also if he gets caught then I'll get caught. Well, there is a bigger risk of me getting caught before him, but it doesn't matter, since if he gets caught then I'll get caught. "Why don't you think so?"
"Well, we are just kids, but I don't think the police will find the killer either, since this killer seems very smart," I explain. He nods.
"Here, I'll take you home, so you don't get killed or something," he offers.
"Sure," I accept. His face turns a shade of pink. He puts his hand out and I grab on. We walk back to my house and he waves and walks down the sidewalk to his own home. I shut the door and start to walk to the stairs. A gentle knock comes from the door. I pivot and open the door. It's Toby.
"Hello!" he greets. He walks into my house without being invited. I shrug it off and close the door. "I came here to tell you that I got these strange texts from someone."
