Part 5
Darius' POV
I was currently on my way to Riker's Bar because my stupid head warrior couldn't keep his paws to his-self. A chuckle left my lips as I stepped through the door. He had just been beaten by a human woman. Before I could blink she was gone, leaving a very faint scent behind; a scent that's been haunting me for the past three years.
After making sure that Jared got back to the pack house safely, I try my best to track my mate's scent. But I lost it. Letting out a howl, I slowly make my way back. My mind went back to the night I first caught the trail; the night The Reaper killed Rico. Either my mate had been taken by The Reaper, or she was The Reaper. I shook my head at that thought. That murdering psychopath would die for killing my best friend.
But what if they are our mate?
They still die. My wolf whimpered at that. Who was I kidding? If The Reaper was my mate, I knew that I wouldn't be able to kill her. But I doubt that I would be able to accept her either. She would have too much blood on her hands. And while I too had blood on my hands, it came from protecting my pack. The Reaper just killed for the fun of it, it would seem.
Maybe my mate, whoever she was, didn't want me. That thought stopped me in my tracks. I needed her. I wanted her, but she kept running from me. My pack needed their Luna. My mind played back what Donny told me, to not give up on her. My body acted on a stray thought. I found myself running through the woods to the small cabin on the edge of my territory.
When I reached it, she was waiting on the porch. She stood when she saw me, her face giving nothing away. "I've been expecting you Alpha." She said with a nod of her head. "What do you seek?" I shifted back and stepped onto the porch.
"I seek to break my mate bond." Her eyes snapped to my face. Several minutes passed before she started walking into the cabin, motioning for me to follow. She leads me to a small room and pointed to a chair. She sat across from me and once again looked into my eyes. "The poor girl." She muttered softly. "Fine. I'll break it, but once it's gone there's no going back.
"And since you're the one to break it, there will be consequences." My ears perked up at that. "Every time your mate is with another, you'll fill it five times stronger than if you had marked her, and she were cheating. Every innocent touch and kiss, you will fill. Every night until she marks another or dies, you will have to see through her eyes the worst days of her life." I thought it over. I, my pack, couldn't wait another three years with hopes that I come across her scent again. We needed a Luna now.
Steeling my mind, I blocked out the angry shouting of my wolf. Meeting the witch's gaze, I nod once. "Do it." She grabbed my hand, held it over a small black bowl, and slides a knife over it. I watched as my blood dripped quickly into it. After a while, she wrapped it up and let go. She poured something into the bowl and starting chanting something to low and fast for me to make out.
Fire and pain exploded throughout my body. The faster her voice went, the hotter the fire burned. A growl shook the room and I realized it was coming from me. And then, just as sudden as the burning and pain started, it was gone. I felt empty. "The bond's now gone. And remember, there's no going back."
I heard a noise and looked over her shoulder. A very ticked off looking Donny stood glaring at me. Before I could speak, he was gone. I stood up to leave when I heard the witch muttering softly. "Poor girl, this is going to break her." I left the cabin quickly and made my way back to the pack house. I nodded to the people when they spoke but I didn't stop. My mind and body was tired and I was heading to bed. Once I reached my room, I didn't bother to change. Falling onto the mattress, I curl up on my pillow and I'm out like a light.
The sounds of screaming broke through my peaceful dream and I leapt from my bed. The smell of smoke burnt my nose as I hurried down the stairs calling for my parents. Suddenly a hand grabbed my hair and threw me through the window. I landed on the grass and let out a groan as a piece of glass pierced my back.
Rolling over, I see my family. A stupid vampire laid on my mother, drinking her blood. She, I could tell, was dead. My brother and father were fighting and I struggled to get up and help. Suddenly, the leech that had killed my mother looked over at me. I glared at her, baring my teeth. She just laughed as the body of my father fell beside my mother.
"Finish him off Rico. The others will be here soon." I focused on their faces, burning them into my memory. My brother landed beside me and our eyes met. "I'm sorry Riley." I told him as I started crying. I was too weak to help him, to help my family. "I love you Bumble Bee." He said with a smile before the one they called Rico took a silver knife and plunged it into his throat.
I shot up in my bed, my body soaking wet with sweat. I was breathing hard. Rico had killed that boy in cold blood. His entire family had wiped the other out. My mate's family died at the hands of my best friend and his family. Suddenly I hated myself. I had caused her more pain.
Jewel's POV
My body was on fire. It consumed everything, leaving me writhing in pain on the bed. "Fenris." I called out, thinking this was a dream. Cold, soothing hands touched my face and a sigh of relief left my lips. But then they were gone and the fire burned hotter. A whimper tore from my throat and I scolded myself on being so weak. I had gone through more pain than this before without crying out.
The cold hands touched me again and I moved closer to them. A soft chuckle came from my left but I blocked it out. The fire was receding slowly. Slowly my eyes fluttered open and I found myself wrapped in the arms of Fenris. My body felt numb and empty. Leah, what happened?
M-mate. He...he br-broke our b-b-bond. She stuttered and I hated how weak she sounded. How could he do that to us, to Leah? But I knew how. He needed a Luna to help his pack; a Luna which I couldn't be. "Are you alright Jewel?" Fenris spoke softly, the caring tone of his voice making more tears burn my eyes.
"He...He broke the bond Fen." I cried out as his arms tightened around me. "You're going to be fine Jewel." He whispered. "I'm here for you and I'm not leaving." It was time for me to move on. I had already spent too much time here. I thought of each house I had, but marked them out. Then my mind brought up the one house I hadn't been to since I bought it. It wasn't like the others. For one, it wasn't rundown and abandoned.
It was in England on the coast. And it was perfect. Slowly I sat up and looked at Fenris. I wouldn't have to tell him that I was leaving, because no matter where I went he'd be able to find me. My eyes meet his and I notice how closer our faces are. His eyes dart down to my lips and then back up to my eyes. Slowly he lowers his head and his lips capture mine.
