Chapter 13
It’s been a week. Another whole week with nothing more than a simple touch on the arm and a longing stare. I don’t know why Zayn was holding back. And with only two more weeks to go, I hoped he was satisfied with whatever he was doing.
I few days after I was kicked out of Zayn’s room, I found the blue suit hanging in my closest. It looked like it had been tailored. I was never given presents from my client before, especially not an expensive suit.
I was staring at the suit from my bed when a knock came to my door. I got up, thinking it was Charles, but instead it was this short woman with curvy hips, red hair and a round face. “Oh hello there! I was afraid you weren’t in there.” She chuckled nervously. “Zayn asked me to stop by and do a consultation.” She smiled and pushed past me into my room.
“Uh? Who are you?” I asked.
The bubbly girl in front of me merely giggled and grabbed my hand. “Oh, I’m Naomi. I’m Zayn’s personal stylist. I need to get your measurements.
“What? Why?”
“Well, you need to have a new suit for Zayn’s birthday party tonight.” She let go of my hand and stood back. “By the looks of it, you’re about the size of Zayn, just not as filled out.” She held her chin in between her fingers as she stared at me. “How old are you anyways?” She asked.
“Wait, wait? Zayn’s having a party tonight?” I asked. She nodded. I knew Zayn was having a birthday soon, but I didn’t know it was that day.
“So, how old?” She asked again. Her eyebrow raising. I think she suspected something. I panicked. “Uh, twenty.” I told her. I silently cursed myself because I had been telling everyone else that I was eighteen, when in reality I was only sixteen, going on seventeen soon. I hoped that I wouldn’t get caught in the middle of mistake.
“Alright, so these suits will fit you for a while since your basically done growing.” She smiled and walked up to me. “And this hair.” She patted my head. “Something needs to be done with this as soon as possible.”
“Wait? Suits, as in multiple. And…. my hair?” I was so confused.
“Yep, so arms out. I need your measurements.” She waved her hand at me and I did as I was told and spread my arms out. She went around me with the measuring strip. It only took a short while to finish up and then she ruffled my hair. “Yeah, we definitely need to do something with this.”
I frowned. I hadn’t gotten a haircut in a long time. My brown roots were taking over my bottle bleached hair. I definitely needed to do something with it. I never styled it or anything. “I guess it could use a cut?” I laughed nervously.
“Then that’s what we will do!” She ruffled my hair once more and I chuckled. Her touch felt good, innocent, and motherly. I didn’t know what it was about this girl, but I felt very comfortable around her. “Well, let’s get going. A perfectly tailored suit is going to take all day.” She led me out of my rom and told me to grab some shoes.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“To the city, of course. That’s where all the best shops are.”
I felt my stomach flip inside me. “R-really?” I gulped nervously. “S-sounds great.”
I was hoping to see Zayn on our way out of the house, but again, he was no where to be found. We walked out the front door and I realized that this was the first time I was leaving the house in two weeks. I found something freshening about being out of the house.
I was glad to see that Naomi didn’t have a fancy car. Sure, it was still worth more than I could ever afford, but it wasn’t dripping with diamonds either. “So, Naomi…”
She turned to me before getting into the driver’s seat of the car. “Yeah?”
“How well do you know Zayn?” I asked.
She started to laugh and then got into the car, motioning for me to get in as well. When I closed the door and the car started, Naomi took a deep breath. “I’ve known Zayn close to… seven years now?” She said it as if she were counting how long it had been. “Yeah, seven years. Man, that’s a long time.”
“Yeah, sure is.”
“So what do you want to know? I’ve got all the dirty details.” She sneered playfully and pulled out of the driveway. I enjoyed the ride down the mountain on the winding roads, but when we got closer to the city, my heart began to race.
“I don’t really know what to ask. He’s just so- so.”
“Moody? Quiet? A romantic that doesn’t finish what he started?”
“Yes!” I groaned. She knew exactly what I was talking about. “It’s really frustrating. I mean, he paid for the entire month, why not not get what he paid for. It’s not like I’m unwilling. I just- ugh!” I was rambling and I didn’t stop until I heard Naomi gasp. I looked over at her and her mouth was agape.
“You’re a prostitute?!” She exclaimed.
Oh shit. “I-I thought everyone knew?” I raised my hands in defense. “Oh my god. You really didn’t know.” I hissed under my breath. I had really f.ucked up. There had to be a reason as to why Zayn didn’t tell her.
“He told me you were his younger cousin in town for his birthday.” She groaned. “Of course Zayn would get a prostitute. He’s so insecure. UGH!” She slapped the steering wheel. “Not that you're a bad person or anything, but really? A prostitute?” I shrank into my seat. I should have been used to it by now, but hearing it over and over again gets to you, you know? I think my silence finally got to Naomi because she stopped ranting and looked over at me. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry.” She covered her mouth.
“It’s fine.”
“No. I shouldn’t have said all of that. I know Zayn has a good heart and that you have one two. Hell, I just met you and I already think you’re great. It just caught me off guard and I have a big mouth so….”
“No, I get it. My job really isn’t something I should be proud of and technically it’s illegal.”
“Technically. But I bet Zayn is looking for companionship more than anything.”
“Well he’s not looking for sex. That’s for sure.” I scoffed.
“Wait? You guys haven’t had sex yet? What kind of hooker are you?” She laughed.
“Apparently a bad one.” I sighed, though chuckled along with her.
We got into the city a lot quicker than I expected, but since it wasn’t rush hour, I guess it was normal. I felt my heart race when we drove among the tall buildings that I used to meet up with business men and women to give them their most wanted desires. I noticed that we entered the nice part of the city and parallel parked in an open spot.
“Where’s the store?” I asked. I looked around the street, but all I was seeing was women’s clothing shops.
“Just around the corner. We have to walk there.” Naomi smiled. “Now let’s get going.” WE got out of the car and Naomi was right about the store being right around the corner. It had a sleek entrance that kind of mirrored Zayn’s house in a way. I guess the rich liked their gray scale color schemes. We walked in and I was taken away by the smell of leather and the look of nice fabrics. Naomi giggled, running her fingers over the silken ties. “This color would look good on you.”
She was holding a light blue tie that had small green designs on it. It was a nice color, the color of my eyes. I nodded and she went around, collecting different items to put together. I just stood there awkwardly because I had never gone to a suit shop, or owned a suit. Except the one Zayn forced upon me after kicking me out of the bedroom.
There were a few other men in the shop, all trying on suits and checking price tags. I looked at a price tag and nearly choked on my own spit. One the the suits was worth more than an entire year’s rent at my apartment complex. The thought made me mis Harry and Ruth.
“Oh, here we are, Niall.” Naomi spoke up. She was holding two suits in her arms and was waving me over to the fitting rooms. “I got this one here that’s simple and then a flashier one. Come on. Let’s go try these on, yeah?” She practically shoved me into a dressing room and entered with me.
“Uh, I can dress myself?” I nervously spoke.
“Nonsense. Plus, I wouldn't be the first person to see you strip down.” She winked at me and I rolled my eyes. She really had no filter. “Alright, try this one first.” She handed me a simple black suit with the blue and green tie. I hooked it on the knob sticking out from the wall and pulled my shirt over my head. My clothes had become a little tight over the time I had spent with Zayn. There was just too much good food to eat at his house.
Naomi gasped when she saw my yellowing bruise on my side, the one Liam had given me. I was surprised she didn’t ask about my wrist being all wrapped up. “What’s that from?” She asked in a concerned tone.
“A customer. It’s not a big deal.”
“Yes it is! That looked horrible. I bet it hurt.” She frowned and took a step back. “Maybe it is a good thing your around the house with Zayn. He would never hurt a fly.” That’s why he’s so interesting to me. I thought. “I’m glad to see it’s healing though.” She sighed, handing me articles of clothing to try on. Once I had the suit on, I stepped out of the fitting room with Naomi and stared at the mirror.
I looked good. All I needed was the haircut to seal the deal. “Wow.” I breathed out. “I look….”
“just delicious.” I heard a voice say behind me. In the mirror, I could see him behind me, with his dark eyes and tall frame. I gulped and opened my mouth to say his name, but I was at a loss for words.
“What brings you here, Niall?”
