Sports anime motivation
I used to play volleyball in middle school on a team (and I would play volleyball in p.e. in high school). I felt so useless on the middle school volleyball team (we were called "Lady Cougars" I think because the cougar was our mascot) because I couldn't get a serve over the net (but now that I look back on those memories, only a few people could get the ball over the net) and I wouldn't say anything when running for the ball (I was super shy) and I wasn't that good at receiving either haha.
The thing I liked most in middle school was setting. In high school I liked serving and passing the ball most because I was good at it and I could actually get the ball over the net ( Wow um this might sound a bit conceited but I think I was better than most of the other people probably because I had more experience playing volleyball?). I actually lost my motivation to play volleyball after middle school but regained some of it when we had to play volleyball in p.e. Then when I didn't have gym class anymore, I lost motivation to play it again. And THEN Haikyuu came into my life XD I think it was around two years ago when I started watching the anime (I honestly don't even remember if it came out two years ago but it sure does feel like it).
Haikyuu inspired me to play volleyball again and even though I haven't really started playing again much I've got to thank the creators for making me play volleyball again with this amazing anime =u=
Sports anime just want to make you actually do that sport hah When I was watching Yowamushi pedal and didn't completely forget what episode I was on in the second season, I wanted to start riding a bike again even though I hadn't ridden a bike in that moment since I was probably around 7 y.o.
Aaaand the latest motivation for me is Yuri on Ice. It doesn't really inspire me in the sense that I would want to do competitive skating (I can barely get up in front of a class and speak without stuttering. I, like many other people out in the world, have stage fright) but it's more of a fuel for my love for watching figure skating. And tbh I also love skating but the best I can do right now besides skating forward and turning is skating backwards at a snail's pace. I used to watch figure skating with my mom* and I thought it was so cool and then I guess I just kind of forgot about it from middle school until now :/ So Yuri on Ice has helped me get back into the loop of things (haha get it? Loop? #Sorry not sorry)
And these don't have anime adaptations but I love reading them when I was a kid: Whistle! (Soccer), Sugar Princess (Ice/figure skating), Hikaru no Go (Go) & Angel Cup (Soccer)
*The one I loved reading the most was Whistle! It's honestly an amazing manga and I still love reading it
And here are some I wanted to read but never did: Kiss and Never cry (Figure Skating) & Crimson Hero (Volleyball I think)
Here are ones that were adapted into an anime that I read as a kid but never watched: Prince of Tennis (Tennis), Eyeshield 21 (football)
*I also took a few lessons, but never went anywhere with it
