Tag #60
I've been tagged by twinklegamertv_ for the one shot for a paring you don't ship, and I'm gonna post the rules and all, but I first want to bring something else up.
I've been tagged for this by intregedreader521, laurelbtsgirl, Golf420 and Burgerainp. Thanks a lot! ^^ Though I already told you, but I won't do the tag. No playing favourites. So if anyone wants to tag me for things like this, don't feel offended when you don't get a tag back. I love you all equally, okay?
Good. Now that that's cleared up.
This'll be an OldrivalShipping/GreenLeafShipping one shot. (Yes, I don't ship it.)
I didn't really do my best on this, and it sucks. I came up with it during class, because boredom. And just pretend Leaf was part of the anime, okay?

I was greeted by complete silence, switching the lights on, though there wasn't the old safe, warm feeling as I entered the house. I left my coat in the hallway, hobbling to the living room. I clenched my fists, still holding the shrivelled piece of paper in my right fist. "I'm home." A harmonious whisper, but only out of pure frustration, and my own self-pity.
I closed the curtains, and headed to the kitchen to prepare a pizza. My hearing seemed to be unrepairable, hence why the sound of the slow music I put on was softer than I remembered it. Or I was just pretending to care, when in actuality, my mind was somewhere completely else.
I opened my fist, and carefully unfolded the piece of paper within. My fingers glided through my hair, tears prickling in my eyes, once again.
Dear Gary,
I have a lot of things to tell you, but the most important thing is that I love you. No matter what happens, no matter how you feel towards me, I love you. You put up with me, even when it was clear to both of us how damaged I was. We both knew very well how I was involved with dangerous people. I'm certain you know that, though I always wondered why you took so long with bringing it up. Maybe you were in trouble yourself, maybe you knew that there really was no way out for me. Either way, I'm glad you didn't leave me for it.
Leaf Green. Our personalities didn't match at all, the first memory I had of her is her punching me, and she was overall too much for me. On the other side, I was an arrogant prick at that time, and used to call her out on her way too short skirt. Looking back, it's a miracle that out of all the girls I met, I went and married this one.
At first I didn't think much of Leaf's absence at times, but I slowly grew suspicious. Her looks had gradually changed over the years, and not just because of ageing. I followed her once, finding her buying drugs in a small alleyway. I wanted to help her, but wasn't sure how to, so I asked Ash to help. He had walked up to Leaf, and confronted her about it. That left a scar in their relationship, and they never spoke again. I never asked questions or confronted her about it, however.
Money became more of a problem, as did Leaf's health. That was the first time I showed any sign of knowing what was going on. I tried to bring it the best way I could, but it ended in me yelling at her. The ability to see Leaf's teary eyes, and cracked up voice still hadn't gone away.
But Leaf quit. It wasn't my yelling that had helped her, but the doctor. It didn't really matter who helped her, anyway. She went to rehab, and slowly started to heal a bit, even though she wouldn't look the same like before. I sometimes asked what the doctor had said, but she kept quiet about it. Later, I found out Leaf was told she was pregnant, but in the end the baby never got born. Not only that, but the drug dealers Leaf used to be involved with started asking questions. And they didn't provoke her in a kind way, what could be expected of drug dealers.
Leaf came to me for help, but my sorry self couldn't do anything for her. I went and acted cool, trying to protect my wife, but those men would have none of that. When I realised my mistake, it was already too late. The police officers I had called came a couple minutes late, and Leaf, who had desperately tried to stop me had fallen victim to one of the bullets. I hadn't even cared if any of the dealers would have shot me, but they had run upon hearing the sound of the police arriving. None of them were arrested, and all I got out of it was a dead wife, and pulling an all-nighter to answer all the questions.
Now, all I had was this soaked, shrivelled piece of paper. Found in Leaf's pocket, unfinished. Some words couldn't even be read clearly anymore, and the only reason I could still read it was because I had memorised it.
I took the pizza out of the oven. Even though I wasn't hungry at all.
The bell rung, but I didn't stand up. I kept staring at the tv, instead, putting a large slice of pizza in my mouth. Even the endless "She's not gone" repeating in my head had faded away. I had yelled at the police officers, yelled at the men, yelled at humanity, but I already knew that none of that was going to help me in any way. The bell rung again.
After I didn't reply for a second time, I heard the door opened. I heard footsteps coming in, probably going after the sound of the tv. A childish hat, with black hair in it, showed itself to me. But I just stared at the screen.
"Gary," Ash began, but he wouldn't get any response. I was done yelling. "Gary, it's me." Of course it's you, Ash. No one else has the key. Ash came to sit next to me, taking a slice pizza himself. "I heard about Leaf..." he said.
"Shut up."
Ash looked at me, his pitying look even clear though I didn't look back at him. "I'm sorry. If there's anything I can do, I—"
"Shut up."
Ash finally fell silent, taking half of the pizza I bought. I couldn't taste its flavour, but kept eating anyway.
What was it I had wanted to achieve? Why had I gone out there, knowing I was too weak to help Leaf? My mind kept repeating the same kind of questions, until I eventually fell asleep.
