Anime Recommendations

So a lot of people apparently love to use my bio for anime recommendations, but I got the idea to actually give some recommendations. I'll be using two of my favourites for a couple genres I've watched. These will all be series, no movies.

If y'all want me to make a second anime recommendations chapter, I will. uwu

Here. We. Go.

Romance

My number 2 favourite romance anime:

I recently watched this one, and it's sort of a mix of a harem and romance anime. I mainly started watching My Teenage Romantic Comedy SNAFU because of the depressing quotes made with the picture of the main character, but it turned out to be a pretty light series.

We've got our usual loner, aka the main character. He's a difficult person, and actually kind of longs for friends, despite constantly denying that. He got forced into a club that tries to solve problems other students are dealing with. But the club only consists of one girl; Yukino Yukinoshita. And she's an even more difficult person, honestly. (I love her, though.)

So, if you're looking for a lighthearted, fun and romantic anime, I'd recommend this one. Even if the ending is kind of shitty.

Episodes: 26
OVAs: 2

My number 1 favourite romance anime:

Featuring a princess in an older Japanese setting. Okay, so the first episode was confusing af. Yona is apparently in love with her cousin (wtf). Is Hak her bodyguard or her friend (he's both)? Wtf is with that king?

And honestly, I understand. It still disgusts me that Yona had a crush on her cousin. Hak's character became clearer over the course of the episodes, but remained all over the place for at least 5 episodes. And King Il is still a vague person, after reading the entire manga. But both the anime and the manga are beautiful.

The animation is top notch, the characters are great, and so is their character development. And the overall story is very well written. It starts off as a bit confusing, but it will all be explained and it's still one of the best anime I've watched, after all this time. I'm pretty sure Yona of the Dawn was the first anime to ever really make me realise how much I love anime.

So, if you're looking for a beautiful, well written, fantasy, romance and action, I really, really, really recommend Yona of the Dawn / Akatsuki no Yona. It's a beautiful anime, I promise. And the manga is even better.

Adventure

My number 2 favourite adventure anime:

And Naruto Shippuden.

Now, I've got so many things I hate about Naruto, but there are just as much things I fell in love with.

I, personally, fell in love with the world. The shinobi world was extremely complex and beautifully drawn. I swear, I love the backgrounds more than I love how the characters are drawn. Jfc, those backgrounds are pure beauty.

I fell in love with the characters. Not all, but a lot of them. Naruto, Sasuke, Lee, Tenten, Neji, Kiba, Gaara, Tsunade, Kushina, etc. They portrayed a lot of them (mostly male characters, though) with realism. All think their own problems are worse than the other, and all want to be accepted and to be of use to others. Most characters have dreams and hopes, and what Naruto is mostly about is what you do with those dreams.

That comes down to the last thing I fell in love with with this series; what it teaches you. Naruto's dream was to become Hokage and be accepted by his village. And he teaches us to never give up on that dream. If you really want it, you should work for it. I'm not giving any spoilers, but I loved Tenten's backstory the most.

So, if you're looking for an adventure and action anime, and are willing to spend a long time watching the same anime, I really recommend Naruto. And if you're a bit done with the filler episodes, Naruto Kai is a collection of the episodes that actually mattered to the plot. Hope you enjoy.

Number of episodes: 220 (Naruto), 500 (Naruto Shippuden)
OVAs: 13
Movies: 7

My number 1 favourite adventure anime:

Noragami is about a girl that got herself into a state of near dead and is now constantly switching between being a spirit and a normal high school girl, and about a god that's doing jobs to receive enough money for his own shrine.

The opening might be badass af, but it's actually more of a comedy and adventure show, with sometimes more serious fights and moments. And a bit of romance put into it as well. The characters are amazing, and the story is slowly unraveling. Together with Yato's past.

It's actually funny how I started watching Noragami for the awesome animation, and turned out I loved the story even more. Definitely an anime I think all otaku should have watched.

Number of episodes: 25
OVAs: 4

Comedy

Ny number 2 favourite comedy anime:

Honestly, this show was amazing. Not very long, had stunning visuals, great and relatable characters and a well thought out change in the world.

So there isn't one big storyline. At least, not yet. But there are amazing characters that you will fall in love with, jokes you will laugh over, villains you will enjoy and there's even some action. It's a top quality show of only 12 episodes per season.

I highly recommend One Punch Man if you love heroes, comedy, action and if you're interested in doing something with animation. Seriously, the animation is beautiful.

Number of episodes: 12
OVAs: 7
Movies: 0

My number 1 favourite comedy anime:

The humour in Gintama is certainly a type of jokes you have to simply love and get used to, but if you do love jokes that's mostly making fun of the show itself and other shows, Gintama is great at that.

Despite being mostly focused on the comedic relief, Gintama also has some serious arcs, which I always love to watch. The characters are assholes, honestly. But I love them because when they get serious, they get serious. And then they're basically acting like heroes.

Gintama plays in Edo, in a futuristic setting with aliens who've taken over. Gintoki is one of the few remaining samurai who fought in the war. It takes quite some time until Gintoki will really reveal stuff from his past, but the show will give you it, eventually. Gintoki meets up with a guy named Shinpachi who, together with his sister, runs a dojo. They've got financial problems, so Shinpachi has to work to get enough money for the dojo. That's when he meets Gin. Later, they also meet with a girl wearing a china outfit, and with monstrous strength. Together they form Odd Jobs Gin, or the Yorozuya. There they get requests from all kinds of people.

Gintama is long, yes. And the comedy is really something you have to like. But it's an overall great anime for people who like comedy, action and just randomness.

Number of episodes: 367
OVAs: 6
Movies: 2

Action

My number 2 favourite action anime:

Another anime I think all anime lovers should have watched.

Assassination Classroom is about a bit of a loser class, which the entire school system discriminates against, and they get a criminal octopus in their class who they have to assassinate, otherwise he'll blow up the moon. The octopus becomes their teacher and helps the class study to become better, while in the meantime the students do their utmost best to assassinate their teacher.

The show features beautiful and complex characters and above all a great story. It has the right amount of comedy, action and even romance. It's great.

And yes, it sounds ridiculous. But believe me when I say all will be explained and that it's an amazing series.

Number of episodes: 47
OVAs: 2
Movies: 1 (don't get fooled, it's just a recap with Nagisa and Karma being the narrators)

My number 1 favourite action anime:

Y'all could've seen that one coming.

Really, this anime is amazing. From small things like even the background characters being detailed and thought out, to the amazing and well written plot of the story. Characters you can love and watch as they grow. Villains that have actual reasons behind their villain actions. Breathtaking fights. Suspense. Nice quirks. A great world and a realistic reaction of people once something happens. Not everyone has a terrible childhood, also an important one.

Oh, and great parents. 👌

I'm not gonna waste my time saying something I've said a million times. If you love action, adventure, heroes, great characters and the well written shit, I highly recommend My Hero Academia.

Number of episodes: 63
OVAs: 2
Movies: 1

Harem

My number 2 favourite harem anime:

An amazing anime. Although I'm not that fond of the art style, you get used to it and the characters make up for it.

The characters are really what makes OHSHC such a loved show. It teaches you some important lessons, like that gender shouldn't be as important as people make it out to be and that love is not something that happens overnight. Along with other lessons.

And the characters are so amazing that everyone will just push aside the twincest in the show.

OHSHC is a great show for people looking for a good comedy, romance and harem anime.

Number of episodes: 26
OVAs: 0
Movies: 0

My number 1 favourite harem anime:

I've mainly read the manga with this one and only watched 4 episodes of the anime, but the story and art is amazing.

Marika is bae. Chitoge is bae. Tsugumi is bae. Onodera could be bae if she had a bit more to her character than being in love with Raku, being kind and being bad at cooking, but sure. Yui-nee is bae. Haru is the absolute worst character Nisekoi ever came up with. Paula is bae. Ruri is bae. And Shuu is the best thing to ever happen to this show.

Just kind of a normal harem, romance and comedy anime, but with some amazing characters and kind of an annoying plot. Why did I like this show more than OHSHC again? I don't know, but I did.

Number of episodes: 32
OVAs: 4

Drama

My number 2 favourite drama anime:

At first I wondered how they could make an interesting story if the war had ended, but they did it. It was interesting, it was beautiful, it got emotional and it taught you a lesson.

It also had the most beautiful designs and drawings from all anime I've seen. The visuals are absolutely stunning.

Violet Evergarden is about an ex soldier who starts working as an Auto Memory Doll (people who write letters for anyone, wherever they are). And it's really beautiful. Violet wasn't very good with emotions at first, but you can watch her grow, and I think that's part of what makes this anime so beautiful. I wouldn't say I enjoyed it. I'd say I felt it.

So if you like dramatic, beautiful, heartfelt stories, I really recommend Violet Evergarden.

Episodes: 13
OVAs: 1
Movies: 0

My number 1 favourite drama anime:

People told me it was good. People told me it was sad. People told me it was worth watching. They were absolutely right.

Truth be told, the art style threw me off at first. It was animated well, but eh, not really my style. It took some getting used to, sure. But holy shit, that story.

If you get emotional easily with this kind of stuff, prepare to bawl.

This anime took the prize for getting closest to me almost crying. It. Was. Beautiful. The characters were beautiful, the story was beautiful, the animation was beautiful. And more, it felt real. The pain, the love, the tears, the happiness, the words said. It all felt so real. And if you truly want your audience to cry until they've got no more tears to spill, you have to make it real. And this series did that so well. Everything was thought out. Everything had a meaning.

I really recommend this anime to all people who like dramas, sad stories, angst, love and classical music. This anime is seriously worth watching.

Episodes: 22
OVAs: 1
Movies: 0

(°◇°) Horror (°◇°)

My number 2 favourite horror anime:

Help. This show was great. The ending sucked. The characters were all fucked up (except for the eighth diary owner). But I never once regretted watching it.

Even so, I really can imagine if others would. XD

But the story really is beautiful, in some way. It gets ugly. There was need for a censored version. And Yuno makes you feel like you're going insane yourself. And my favourite character turned out to be the terrorist, lmao.

What I really love about Mirai Nikki is how everything other anime are always being difficult with is just put in Mirai Nikki like it's nothing. Both Akise and Mao are gay and nobody questions it. Yukki's mother was the one who told Yukki that it's okay to have sex when I'm pretty sure he's, like, 14. People kill and use people, and every character knows that's simply what happens. They know the human nature. It's all a mess, but I guess I'm alright with this mess.

But really if you want to watch something short, full of action, fucked up romance and blood, I guess this is your show.

Number of episodes: 26
OVAs: 1
Movies: 0

My number 1 favourite horror anime:

Damn. Once I started, I already knew this wasn't going to be a happy-go-lucky anime. But I did not see the gore coming.

Honestly, though, I think I like it this way. I can't really take a lot of it all at the same time, because this is the type of series I can't binge watch. After about 4 episodes so much has already happened I need to take a break and silently suffer. Nevertheless, the show is amazing.

I'm not going into full detail, because like I said, it moves fast, I can't really tell much without giving spoilers.

So if you like gore, fucked up minds, men-eating giants and just humanity suffering in general, here's your anime. But even if you don't like that stuff, I'd watch at least three episodes if I were you.

Number of episodes: 49
OVAs: 9 and 3 special episodes following up on other episodes
Movies: 2

🏀 Sports 🏀

This is the last genre, I promise. XD

My number 2 favourite sports anime:

Ye, it's gay. Ye, that's partially why I love it. No, that's not the whole thing.

First off, Yuuri is a very cute cinnamon roll. If you watch only for him that's a good enough reason.

Secondly, that dog. Just... that dog.

Thirdly, I love the other Yuuri. He funny.

Fourthly, let's just agree that all characters are amazing and well written.

Fifthly, the anime manages to make a story with a plot and some romance and still mainly focus on ice skating. 👏👏

Sixthly, I just recommend this anime to all people who love gay, good characters, comedy and if you like ice skating, that's even better.

Episodes: 12
OVAs: 0
Movies: There will come a movie somewhere this year.

My number 1 favourite sports anime:

Again, all the characters are amazing, and you will adopt every last one of them. Whether they're older or not.

Also, some are husbando material.

But yeah, it's mostly about the volleyball. Hinata Shouyo is a very dedicated student. No, he's not dedicated to his studies like a good boi, he dedicated to his volleyball. He still a good boi, though.

He meets his soulmate (ssssh, believe in the KageHina) in a middle school match where he lost badly to him. And Kageyama was an ass about it. (Don't blame him, he was just shy because he found Hinata attractive.) But Hinata kept practicing and got into Karasuno High to play volleyball with a good team, and the team where his idol used to play when he was in high school. There he met Kageyama again.

Lots of exciting matches. Lots of yelling. Lots of emotions. Very overdramatic feelings, but nobody cares, because it's interesting. And it actually makes you wanna play / watch volleyball.

So if you like a crazy fandom, volleyball, lots of random feelings, exciting matches, more knowledge on sports, new husbandos / sons, and lots of cute / interesting / funny characters, go watch Haikyuu!! I demand you.

Episodes: 60
OVAs: 0
Movies: Only recap movies.

Like I said, if people want more recommendations, just request. And put which gender you want me to give recommendations for.

I'm still watching a lot, so maybe I'll sometimes put some anime reviews in this book? Who knows? ^^

Bye!
