Save Me

The world below his feet whirled by in deafening silence as he stared down. The lights of cars blinding him as he peered over the ledge he barely stood upon. He felt nauseated from the height but suffocated in life. He didn't think he could go through with this before he stepped up onto the ledge of that roof, but his life was slowly crumbling out from under him.

He'd managed to pick himself back up when he lost his job. He'd managed to pull himself together when 4 of his friends were killed in that tragic car accident. He could lose a fifth friend from the injuries he sustained in that accident and he couldn't bare losing his soulmate. Jimin had been there for him since their childhood and he honestly considered him a lifeline when things got too hard. Now though. Now he was going to lose all that and he couldn't comprehend why such horrible things would only happen to him.

He felt the wind across his face as tears trickled from his eyes. He clutched his chest and doubled over, unleashing the cry within him that threatened his life. He felt hopeless and utterly useless as he continued to break down, allowing his cries of bitterness to fill the silence around him. The sounds that escaped him were that of someone who'd finally lost all hope in life. Someone ready to end it all.

He finally silenced his own cries, sniffling audibly as he straightened back up. He wiped his eyes and face of any remaining tears. He wanted the people below to know that this was what he wanted. He didn't want to be without his friends or his best friend. He didn't know how he could possibly continue without Jimin, even if he hadn't lost him yet. He was certain he'd lose Jimin too with the way things had been going in his life so far.

He stepped even closer to the edge, hesitantly peering over as he felt a wave of vertigo hit him. The drop alone would kill him if he didn't have a heart attack first. He sucked in a deep breath and closed his eyes, but before he could walk over the edge, he heard someone call out to him. He froze almost instantly and glanced behind him to see someone running in his direction. "Wait! Don't do this," the person cried out, finally reaching him as the other inched away. "What do you want? You have nothing to do with this! You should have minded your own business," the other lashed out, gripping the wire fence against his back.

The other male heaved a massive breath as he stared up at the other that was ready to throw his life away. "You made it my business when I could hear you from down below," the intruder barked out, pleading for the other to reconsider with his eyes. "I don't know what's going on in your life, but you don't have to do this. I'll listen if you need someone to talk to," the male added softly, trying to coax the other back over the chain-link fence to safety.

The other glanced over at him, sniffling as he wiped his eyes but remained motionless otherwise. "Why do you care?" He asked briskly, still trying to offend the stranger and get him to leave. He wasn't going to reconsider his decision until he made the mistake of looking into the stranger's warm and magnetic eyes. "I don't want to see more death in the world. There's enough of that without people killing themselves. You may feel like there's not a lot to live for right now, but you don't know what the future holds. Please, I'm begging you. Reconsider this decision and take my hand," the other offered, holding his hand through the fencing.

The other stared at his inviting hand, contemplating taking it. Although, his thoughts were still far too jumbled for him to make a sound decision. What if he regretted taking this guy's hand later? What would he do then? He didn't think he'd have the strength or the stomach to attempt this again if he did regret his decision. "Why should I trust you? You don't know me and I don't know you! Why are you trying so hard?!" the male cried out, gripping the sides of his head in frustration and confusion. He honestly had no idea what he should do.

"Jungkook! My name is Jungkook! So now you know me. You don't have to keep pushing me away now," Jungkook pleaded softly, his voice reflecting the turmoil of emotions he felt right now. The other glanced at him with tears in his eyes as he remained pressed against the fence, still contemplating his options. "Taehyung," the other whispered, barely audible for Jungkook. Although he was still able to catch it on the wind as he offered a soft smile. "Okay, Taehyung. We know each other's names so that doesn't make us strangers anymore. I just need you to take my hand and tell me you'll climb back over to this side... Or... Or I'm climbing over there with you," Jungkook vowed loudly, trying to persuade Taehyung to change his mind.

Taehyung could recognize the inner turmoil in Jungkook's eyes as he continued to stare at the male desperate to save his wretched life. Taehyung felt his heart beat with the possibility of a better life as he slowly inched closer to Jungkook. Taehyung could see Jungkook's warm eyes light up with hope as he inched closer to Jungkook's hand. "Yes, that's it. Just a little further," Jungkook encouraged softly, watching Taehyung with cautious eyes. Taehyung turned toward Jungkook, following the narrative of his voice rather than listening to the thoughts in his mind. The thoughts that urged him to carry through with his plans rather than listen to someone he'd just met.

Jungkook watched as Taehyung climbed the fence once more. He slipped once and Jungkook hastily gripped onto his clothes for reassurance as Taehyung continued to climb. Taehyung slipped a few more times, concerning Jungkook but he always managed to hang on and continue his trek upwards. Once one of Taehyung's legs was over the other side, Jungkook held his arms up for Taehyung. "Go ahead. I'll catch you," Jungkook offered as Taehyung side straddled the rail of the fence. He hopped off the rail and straight into Jungkook's arms as they both hit the ground with a heavy thud.

Although Jungkook was just glad that Taehyung decided against his first option as he held onto Taehyung tightly. "Are you okay?" Taehyung asked hesitantly, barely audible as Jungkook laughed with relief. "I'm definitely more than okay," Jungkook spoke through his laughter as Taehyung rolled off to the side of Jungkook. His laughter was like a breath of fresh air that Taehyung needed as he stared at Jungkook's side profile. Jungkook turned his full attention towards Taehyung with a relieved smile and Taehyung felt his heart stop. The whole world seemed to stop at that moment as he stared at the man who saved his life. He appeared to be made by the gods themselves as his eyes traced every contour of Jungkook's defined and strong features.

Taehyung choked on his saliva as he struggled to swallow, his thoughts now shifting into a completely different gear. He wondered how he could have ever been so rude towards him in the first place. "I- I'm sorry," Taehyung softly squeaked out as Jungkook placed a hand over his forehead. "You don't have to apologize," Jungkook reassured, not sure what Taehyung was honestly apologizing about. "I'm just glad you listened to me," Jungkook added as Taehyung propped himself up on his elbows. "Wh- What would you have done if I hadn't listened to you?" Taehyung asked curiously as Jungkook sighed softly in response.

"Well, I probably would have still been too late, but I'd have dived down after you. And if that meant we both died, then I guess that would have been my fate for getting involved," Jungkook answered honestly, watching Taehyung's elegant features shift into a frown. "You should have just let it go and walked away when I was being rude to you. There's no need for us both to perish," Taehyung retorted as Jungkook fully turned his body towards Taehyung. "I don't walk away from people who need someone. I told you I'd listen to your problems, so that's what I'm going to do," Jungkook insisted as Taehyung was silenced by the authority in Jungkook's voice.

"Now. What's bothering you so much that you felt this was the only other option?" Jungkook asked, tucking one of his arms underneath his head as he stared at Taehyung. Taehyung felt like he could almost see straight through him as he cleared his throat. "F- first of all, I lost my job... I- I was working as a sales representative at a car dealership. The pay was decent, but commission made it that much better. They fired me due to my commissions tanking... That was the start of it," Taehyung trailed off and Jungkook could see the tears building in Taehyung's eyes once again.

Instantly, Jungkook wrapped his arms around Taehyung, trying to soothe any sorrow he might be feeling. Although, as Taehyung continued to speak, Jungkook knew why he was feeling so hopeless now. "So you practically lost all your friends to a drunk driver?" Jungkook asked cautiously as Taehyung nodded. A soft, choked sob escaped Taehyung's lips once again as Jungkook rubbed soothing circles on Taehyung's back. "Tae, I know it hurts now, but what about your friend in the hospital? What if he survives this? What if he had survived, only to find out that you'd killed yourself? How would he feel without you?" Jungkook asked softly, trying to make Taehyung understand the consequences of the actions he was about to commit.

Taehyung nodded at Jungkook's words, unable to form a coherent response as he sobbed. He didn't know if Jimin would survive, but the possibility of leaving Jimin to handle the death of all his friends like that was heartbreaking. He coiled into Jungkook's embrace, crying as he gripped Jungkook's shirt tightly in his fists. Jungkook tenderly patted Taehyung's back to try and soothe him, his soft hums slowly calming Taehyung. Jungkook was silent now as Taehyung calmed down, his chin resting on top of Taehyung's head as he contemplated saying what was on his mind. "I'm glad you did reconsider though. You can go back home to your family or significant other," Jungkook whispered softly, a hint of bitterness in his voice at the latter phrase.

Taehyung sniffled as he shook his head and laughed softly. "My family lives in another city and I have no significant other. Jimin was all I ever really needed," Taehyung stated nonchalantly, playing with the button of Jungkook's shirt. He didn't want to add the part about only needing Jimin until he'd looked into Jungkook's eyes. Something felt like it had clicked inside of him and he felt at home in Jungkook's arms, but he couldn't very well say that to an almost complete stranger. "Oh," Jungkook spoke before he had time to compose what he was going to say, his feelings of bitter disappointment reflected in his voice.

Taehyung giggled at the short answer Jungkook gave him before glancing up at him. "I- Is there a significant other you need to be going home to?" Taehyung asked softly, his eyes innocent as he laid his heart out on the table. Jungkook seemed to flush deeply as he shook his head in response to Taehyung's question. Taehyung smiled as he leaned closer to Jungkook. "Well then, since you have no significant other I have to worry about and I have no significant other you have to worry about, let me thank you for saving my life and listening to me," Taehyung offered as he placed a tender kiss upon Jungkook's lips. Jungkook's grip tightened around Taehyung's waist as the kiss intensified, sending electricity through both their bodies.
