"Where do you wanna go next, love? You said something about sweets earlier on." Jeongguk asked Taehyung as they held hands and walked through the shopping centre. It was bustling with life and laughter and Taehyung couldn't help but smile fondly. The floor was lit up with glowing orange pumpkin shaped lights, and there were fake black cobwebs dangling from the ceiling. Inflatable monsters stood guarding the entrance of some shops, and there were little kids dressed as witches and mummies running around and sharing sweets.
Halloween was always such a pleasant time of year.
Not only was it a nice break from the mundanity of regular days, but it was also Jeongguk's birthday, which was a perfect excuse to stay cuddled up in doors together and not have to socialise or go to any crazy Halloween parties.
"Let's go to the marshmallow stand!" Taehyung gasped in excitement, trying to tug Jeongguk along with him.
"Taehyung you know I hate marshmallows." Jeongguk grumbled. "Can't you pick something else? What about the gummy stand?"
"But they have pumpkin shaped marshmallows!" Taehyung begged, "They look so cool Gukkie please?" His big brown eyes sparkled with pure joy and Jeongguk's heart melted. He leant forwards and kissed Taehyung briefly on the cheek. He nodded once and Taehyung had to stop himself from squealing in excitement as he gripped Jeongguk's hand even tighter and pulled him in the direction of the marshmallow stand.
Jeongguk stared at his fiancée fondly as the brunette bounced up and down on the spot in anticipation. He grinned from ear to ear when the server handed him his pumpkin-shaped marshmallow on a stick, and he held it up proudly for Jeongguk to see.
"Look Gukkie! Look! It even has the freaky face on it!" Taehyung smiled as Jeongguk paid the server and intertwined their hands again. They began walking again, smiling and talking and having a fun time. They stopped in front of a shoe shop, and Taehyung had to dissuade Jeongguk from buying a pair of iron man themed shoes.
"Why not?" Jeongguk whined. "They're on discount."
"Because you're not 6 years old, Guk. There's literally nowhere you can wear them to." Taehyung sighed.
"I can wear them at home!" Jeongguk protested.
"But you already have two pairs and you don't wear either of them. They don't even go with any of the clothes in your wardrobe." Taehyung pointed out.
"I can't wear either of those two; you got me the first pair and the second pair was the first thing I ever bought with human money!" Jeongguk defended. "If I get these, then I can wear these ones outside!"
"Not with me you won't." Taehyung laughed. "Let's go, babe. I promise I'll buy you something better."
"But it's my birthday!" Jeongguk pouted. "You promised to do something nice for me!"
"So the four rounds of sex this morning wasn't enough?" Taehyung asked teasingly. "And the hand-painted replica of our first picture together?"
Jeongguk huffed.
"They were more than enough, baby. I loved those." He said, kissing the side of Taehyung's head. "But I would love these too."
"You're so embarrassing, Gukkie, no." Taehyung laughed as he laced their fingers together and began to tug Jeongguk away from the store.
"I'm going to buy them and wear them to our wedding." Jeongguk mumbled, reluctantly allowing a giggling Taehyung to drag him away from the shop.
"Sure you will." Taehyung said sarcastically. "Good luck with that."
"Thank you." Jeongguk replied. "I don't even know why I'm asking for your permission. I'm the freaking Devil; I can do whatever I want to!"
"Except use a washing machine." Taehyung snorted.
"It doesn't need to have that many buttons!" Jeongguk immediately replied defensively. "On and off is more than enough."
Taehyung threw his head back and laughed heartily, so amused with his lovers' childish attitude. The "infamous torturer of souls" that everybody feared, was nothing more than a big pouty teddy bear who liked eating gummy bears and stealing kisses at every opportunity.
How terrifying.
"It's okay you big baby. You can teach me how to ride a chariot, and I'll teach you how to use a washing machine. Deal?" Taehyung smiled.
"Now that you've mentioned it, I do miss my chariot." Jeongguk sighed wistfully. "We should head to the underworld sometime soon and go see my parents. They've been dying to see you again. And it'd give me time to catch up with Seokjin and Yoongi hyung. What do you think?"
"Sounds like a plan." Taehyung agreed. "But as long as I don't have to go into the dungeons with you this time. Far too scary." He shuddered.
"It's only a bit of blood, babe. Don't be so dramatic." Guk said, chuckling at the face Tae pulled.
"Yuck. I'll gladly pass." Taehyung said.
"Who's the baby now?" Jeongguk laughed teasingly.
"Still you. It'll always be you. My big baby Jeonggukie." Taehyung smiled, watching as Jeongguk blushed a bit. "You're absolutely adorable."
"Sh-shut up." Jeongguk retorted. "Let's just go."
"Aye Aye captain." Tae grinned.
The couple continued to walk through the store, bickering and giggling like two teenagers.
"We need to buy candles Gukkie!" Taehyung gasped.
"I hate candles, Tae." Jeongguk groaned.
"You hate everything, hun." Taehyung laughed. "And besides; you need candles for your birthday cake!"
"Chocolate cake?" Guk asked hopefully.
"You know it baby." Tae smiled.
Chocolate cake was Jeongguk's favourite human food and in his eyes, no celebration was complete without it.
When he had entered earth for the first time and met Taehyung 6 years ago, he was wandering around, confused and lost. In his demon form, there was no need to eat or sleep, but in his human form, he was hungry and fatigued. He had wandered from place to place, not understanding what he was supposed to eat and why people weren't giving him food too. He was about to give up and return to the underworld, ultimately failing his mission, but then he stumbled upon a pretty boy with silver hair and a book, sitting alone on a park bench and eating a slice of some brown thing.
Jeongguk had originally planned to beat the boy up but the boy had stared at him curiously, before breaking out into an endearing smile.
"Hello." he had smiled. "What can I do for you?"
Jeongguk didn't reply. His eyes were fixated on the giant brown triangle the boy was holding.
"What's that?" He asked after a while.
"Oh, this?" Taehyung said, holding up his half -eaten slice of cake. "It's chocolate cake. I made it." He beamed.
"What does that mean?" Jeongguk asked.
"I-what? I-it's cake...but chocolate flavoured." Taehyung said bewilderedly.
"Where can I get some?" Jeongguk asked curiously.
"F-from the bakery? Or the supermarket." Taehyung said in confusion. "Where else?"
"Is that the big place with lots of people with large bags?"
"Um...yeah?" Taehyung said slowly.
"But I went there before and asked but they didn't give me anything to eat." Jeongguk huffed.
"Y-yeah. You gotta pay for it." Taehyung said.
"Oh."
"..."
"Well I can't go there then." Jeongguk said.
"W-why not?"
"I don't have any money." He shrugged light-heartedly. "Never mind. I'll find someone's soul to eat instead."
"A-are you on drugs, mister?" Taehyung said in mild fear.
"Of course not." Jeongguk scoffed as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Drugs will get me disqualified from the mission."
Taehyung stared at him in fear and slowly began to stand up and move away.
"Where are you going?" Jeongguk asked.
"H-home." Taehyung said cautiously.
"Can I come?" Jeongguk asked.
"What the fuck?" Taehyung asked in disbelief. "Of course not!"
"Well then where am I supposed to sleep?" Jeongguk asked.
"In your own house?"
"I don't have one." Jeongguk frowned. "Why can't I sleep in yours?"
"Because I don't know you!"
"Oh. Well my name is Jeongguk. Now can I come?"
"Fat chance." Tae scoffed. "Go to your own house."
"But I don't have one!" Jeongguk whined. "Where do I get one? Do they sell them in the supermarket too?"
Taehyung didn't say anything; he just stared at Jeongguk in wild confusion. He was incredibly perplexed and scared, yet oddly intrigued at the same time. There was definitely something wrong and unnatural with the hot man in front of him, yet there wasn't anything dangerous about him either.
"I know it doesn't fix your housing problem, but y-you can have my slice of cake if you want." He said, slowly walking forwards and handing it to Jeongguk who took it and peered at Taehyung.
"Your face is incredibly beautiful." Jeongguk said casually, not noticing Taehyung's face turn bright red. "Does everyone look like this?"
"N-no. This is just my face."
"Oh. Well you're fortunate then." Jeongguk said nonchalantly. He looked at the slice of cake in his hands.
"I don't have any money for this."
"I-it's okay. You can have it for free." Taehyung smiled, watching as Jeongguk took a tentative bite out of it. "What do you think?" he asked nervously. "Namjoon says I can't bake but-"
"I like it." Jeongguk smiled. "I like it a lot..."
"Taehyung. My name is Taehyung."
"Oh. Well then Taehyung, I like your chocolate cake." Jeongguk smiled.
"Thank you Jeongguk." Tae smiled. "Anyway I'm heading off now. It was a pleasure to meet you?" he said with uncertainty.
"Are you going to be here tomorrow?" Jeongguk asked.
Taehyung shrugged.
"Depends."
"On what?"
"On how much work I have to do at my job."
"What job do you have?"
"I'm an accountant." Tae said. "What about you?"
"I'm Lucifer." Jeongguk said with a straight face.
"L-lucifer? Is that your company name or?"
"Don't be ridiculous. I'm quite clearly the ruler of Hell." Jeongguk said.
"Right. So the ruler of hell is a guy in a white t-shirt and Timbs with chocolate smeared on his face. Gotcha. I guess I can start sinning a lot more." Taehyung snorted. It was such a farfetched story, yet the man's eyes were clear and honest looking. Strange.
"So what's your day job then? Or is this Lucifer thing full time."
"I don't have one." Jeongguk said. "I only just got here today."
"Oh. Well you need a day job to survive. Not everyone is going to hand out free chocolate cake every day." Taehyung said.
"Can I be an accountant too?"
"I-I don't think so, Jeongguk. Maybe start with something smaller." Taehyung said gently.
"Like what?"
"I don't know." Tae said, watching as Jeongguk began to frown. "Look. I'll tell you what. Meet me here tomorrow at 12:50 and I'll help you find a job."
"Will you bring more chocolate cake?" Jeongguk asked hopefully, and Taehyung couldn't help but smile fondly at him.
"Sure."
****************
"I hate earth." Jeongguk pouted as he crossed his arms childishly. The two were standing in front of a bakery, about to buy a cake, when Jeongguk stopped in his tracks and gasped.
"Aw baby don't say that." Taehyung laughed. "It's really not that big of a deal."
"It is. I do not look like that!" Jeongguk said in despair as they passed yet another ugly display of him.
The Devil was often depicted as an ugly red beast with yellow eyes and goat legs, and Jeongguk was tired of seeing the inaccuracy.
"I don't have red skin! Why would I have red skin!"
"Because hell is hot!" Taehyung said.
"It gets hot on earth but you don't have red skin." Jeongguk pointed out.
"Touché." Taehyung laughed.
"And why do they never give me any hair?" He frowned. "Tae it's not funny! Stop laughing!" he said, watching as Taehyung struggled to keep a straight face.
"But at least your horns are close enough!" Tae said.
Jeongguk stared at the picture and nodded once.
"Those are the only correct thing. Everything else is hideous."
"It's okay baby. Don't worry about it." Tae said, still giggling between his sentences. "C'mon. Let's get your cake so we don't have to see it any longer."
They got the cake and a few other things, before deciding to find some more decorations.
"I can't believe they didn't have any banners for you." Taehyung huffed as they walked out of the party shop.
"To be fair babe, not everybody turns 2000 years old. It was highly unlikely they'd sell balloons like that." Jeongguk laughed softly. The couple were still holding hands as they began to leave the shop, with Jeongguk carrying the giant bag full of sweets, snacks and birthday supplies.
"Let's just go home, yeah?" Jeongguk said.
"But Gukkie we haven't got half the things we need." Taehyung said sadly. "I promised this would be the best birthday yet but I fucking blew it."
"Don't worry about it, Tae." Jeongguk smiled softly. "It's always a great birthday as long as we're together."
"R-really?"
"Yeah. You don't know the half of it. You've already given me more than I could ever dream of."
*****************
The two were now warming up in Jeongguk's cozy apartment, placing decorations around the room and lighting candles. They had taken a relaxing bath together and even used Jeongguk's favourite bath bombs too.
The atmosphere was calm and serene as they decorated in their matching pyjamas, giggling and stealing kisses every time they crossed paths or bumped into each other. Jeongguk was just putting the last fake cobweb in the corner as Taehyung came out of the kitchen with two mugs of hot chocolate.
He placed them quietly on the table without Jeongguk noticing and rushed back into the kitchen.
"Baby!" He called out.
"Yeah?" Jeongguk answered, but Taehyung didn't reply. He sighed and got down from the chair, about to go into the kitchen, when Taehyung slowly walked out with the cake in his hands, softly singing happy birthday as he grinned at the love of his life.
Jeongguk smiled at him fondly, allowing him to finish before blowing out the giant number 2 candle and kissing Taehyung on the lips. Taehyung placed the cake on the table and climbed into Jeongguk's lap when they both sat down in the living room.
"Thank you, baby." Jeongguk whispered.
Taehyung smiled back and cut him a little slice off, feeding it to him and wiping the chocolate from his lips. They sat in an amicable silence, watching the tv and just being content with each others' company.
Jeongguk allowed his mind to wander back to the day they first met, and how lucky he was to have met such an amazing person with a loving heart. Taehyung had come into his life and given it meaning, making his infinite lifetime seem less daunting and tiresome. If there was anyone he'd want by his side forever, it was Kim Taehyung.
"What are you thinking about, Gukkie?" Taehyung asked.
"How much I can't wait to marry you." Jeongguk said truthfully.
"You're such a sap." Taehyung smiled. "But for the record. I can't wait to marry you either."
"Thank you so much for this day, bun. I had a great time." Jeongguk smiled.
"You better do something this sweet for my birthday." Taehyung joked.
"Fuck off. You always ruin the mood." Jeongguk laughed. "You're an idiot."
"And you're a loser." Tae giggled.
"I can't be a loser if I have you." Jeongguk grinned.
Taehyung stared at him for a while, looking into his sparkling brown eyes and smiling.
"I love you, TaeTae." Jeongguk said as he leaned forwards and slowly kissed Taehyung on his chocolate-tasting lips.
"I love you too, Jeonggukie." Taehyung said as he pulled away. "Happy Halloween."
