Jeongguk always knew that Taehyung would be his mate and though it's a struggle, he'd gladly wait until Taehyung's presentation before claiming the sweet omega as his soulmate.

Jeon Jeongguk was an alpha. Everyone knew that. It was obvious by the way he carried himself, the way he walked and the way he made sure everyone was comfortable at all times. Everyone wanted him.

What was not to be desired? The chiseled jaw? Or the rippling muscles which bulged even in the loosest of t-shirts? Maybe it was his dark raven locks which tumbled effortlessly into his face, bringing out his shiny black eyes which scintillated when he smiled.
There was nothing about Jeon Jeongguk which wasn't perfect and everyone wanted to be the one he called his.

But they couldn't be. Because Jeon Jeongguk was the soulmate of Kim Taehyung. This came as a surprise to everyone; Taehyung included. You see, Taehyung was a small, shy omega who was lusted over by nearly every unmated Alpha in their college. He was petite and curvy but had sinful long legs which caught the eyes of everyone.  He and Jeongguk were in the same friendship group, and had spent countless nights participating in strictly platonic sleepovers. Of course he had noticed Jeongguk's natural charm; who hadn't? But he didnt dare to imagine that he'd be his mate.

"Of course not!" Taehyung explained to his best friend Jimin, head dangling upside down off the edge of the bed, "Why would it be me of all people to be Gukkie's mate? There's nothing special about me at all. I don't stand a chance!"

But how wrong he was.

So fast forward the day after Taehyung's confession to Jimin, and he's sat in Jeongguk's lavish apartment, ungracefully sprawled out on his soft sofa. The two had just finished binge watching the entire series of "Suspicious Partner" and Tae was tired to the core. Bleary eyed, he watched as Jeonggukk returned from the kitchen and back to the living room with a pack of white chocolate in his hands.

"Tae baby, you gotta wake up a bit. Eat something before you go to sleep, yeah?Can't have you feeling sick tomorrow can we? Hmmm?" Jeongguk called out softly. The nicknames rolled off his tongue out of habit and honestly he knew Taehyung secretly liked it, so he didn't bother stopping.

He was fully aware that maybe chocolate wasn't the best thing to offer Tae but he couldn't help himself as he imagined the way Tae's eyes would light up as soon as chocolate was involved. Setting the food onto the table, he knelt down infront of Taehyung who was half asleep on the couch.

"M'too tired to eat Gukk." He yawned, trying to snuggle further into the cushions. "I'll jus' do it tomorrow."

Jeongguk laughed, well aware that Taehyung had no clue what he was even saying. God he was so cute. He stood up and decided to carry Tae to his room so he could sleep more comfortably. It was too unfair to send the other home when he was this tired and this cute. He paused, taking the time to admire the beauty beneath him. It was almost painful, how hard Jeongguk's heart was beating for Taehyung, and Taehyung only. Ever since the day they met, nearly 3 years ago, he knew Tae was the one for him. Something deep within told him that the boy with the messy blonde hair and oversized clothes, would be the one to shine bright red and blue in his monochrome world.

He sighed, scooping up Taehyung and carrying him bridal style up the stairs and into his bedroom. Laying him gently on the bed, he shook the boy awake, trying to be as gentle as possible.

"Babe, you gotta change out of your clothes before you sleep. I know how much you hate sleeping in loads of clothes. C'mon babe. Up up." Jeongguk hummed.

"Too tired Gukkie." A sleepy voice whined, "You do it for me." He said, spreading himself like a starfish so Jeongguk could have better access. A small laugh came from above him, and Taehyung thought it sounded like God. Gentle yet firm hands, slid his jeans off his legs and soon his hoodie came off too. If it were anyone else, Taehyung would've felt extremely uncomfortable lying half naked on their bed, but with Jeongguk, everything was fine.

There was shuffling around the room, and soon Jeongguk came back with a purple t-shirt in his arms. He had also changed from his jeans into black sweatpants which made him look so soft. Tae let himself shamelessly stare at Jeongguk, and didn't bother stopping himself from daydreaming about them being together.

Jeongguk gently tugged the shirt over Tae's sleeping body, pulling the sleepy boy closer to his body and cuddling him. He nosed at Taehyung's neck, subconsciously trying to scent him, but it would only work for about 5 minutes or so because they weren't mated.

And God did Jeongguk want him to be his mate. Deep down, he knew that Tae was the one for him, but whoever his soulmate truly was, hadn't yet reached 19, so he Jeongguk wouldn't know either until his mate became of age. Stupid ancient rules.

The alpha sighed, nuzzling further into Taehyung's neck and lulling himself to sleep with the omega's sweet scent of vanilla.

Months rolled past slowly, and the two boys couldn't help but fall deeper for each other.

"I wish Jiminnie," Taehyung had sighed on a day where his heart had hurt the most, "I wish I could just find out if we're mates or not. I know Gukkie's mate is the same age as me, coz Guk hasn't got his mate yet. And foolishly I kinda hope that it's me." He cried softly, head hung low in defeat. "I'm tired of hurting Jimin. So damn tired."

But Tae knew that there was nothing he could do besides wait until he turned 19, when everything would be revealed.

For better or for worse.

Soon December rolled around and although anxious, Taehyung was excited for his birthday.

"Christmas is overrated." Taehyung had once told Jeongguk, "the nation should celebrate my birthday instead." Tae can clearly remember the small giggle that came from Jeongguk at that.

Christmas came and went in a blurr; a mess of shitty candy canes and poorly decorated gingerbread men. The secret santa game he played with his friends had turned him into a blushing mess as Jeongguk handed him a small necklace with a ship name of Taekook on it.

"Platonic my ass." Jin had snorted, earning himself a sharp glare from Yoongi.

December 30th finally rolled around and Taehyung couldn't have been more happy. At 2am he'd been woken up by his parents on facetime. They were abroad for work but Tae was still touched that they had made time to wish him a happy birthday, despite their differences in time zones.

"You're all grown up Taehyungie!" His mother had cried, squealing at him over the phone, " I can't wait to see who your mate is! I hope it's that Jeongguk boy, he seemed like such a brilliant young man. Aww just imagine what your little pups would look like TaeTae!!! I'm praying the Moon Goddess is in your favour!!!"

"Yeah Tae, I'm a fan of that Jeongguk lad myself." His dad said.

"Me too." Tae had smiled gently.

Fast forward to about 8 at night to where all of Taehyung's friends had just left their small little gathering at his apartment. Everyone but Jeongguk. It was a Taekook Tradition to have a sleepover on each other's birthday and tonight was no different.

The two were cuddled up on Taehyung's bed in a comfortable silence, Jeongguk's large muscular frame making Taehyung feel safe and protected. Jeongguk was still trying to scent the omega in his arms, but either Tae hadn't noticed or he didn't mind.

"G-gukkie." A timid voice broke the silence.

"Yeah Tae?"

"A-are we gonna be alright? I-I'm gonna be presented in a few minutes a-and I don't want things to change between us." He turned and faced Jeongguk with eyes that sparkled with unshed tears.

A soft peck was delivered to his head.

"S'alright Babe. I'll be here for you regardless." Regardless of if we can be together forever or not.

"Promise?" Tae sniffled.

"Promise." Guk confirmed, bringing Taehyung closer to his chest. He glanced at the clock. 11:58pm. In 2 minutes, Jeongguk and Taehyung were about to find out if they were destined to be together.

"Y'know Tae," Jeongguk began, "I really hope it's us."

No signals. No context.

Yet Taehyung knew exactly what Jeongguk was talking about.

"Me too."

Jeongguk was in the process of looking at the clock when in an instant, there was an overwhelming scent of Vanilla and Cream which killed him in the best way. The scent drove him insane and it clogged his brain until the only thing he could think of was how to keep the intoxicating smell here forever.

Taehyung was no better. The heavy scent of musky trees and spice invaded his head and he failed miserably at biting back the whimper in his throat. The smell was just so powerful and dominant in the best way. It made his knees week and his head spin with desire.

"G-gukkie" he whimpered, turning to meet the other boy's eyes.

"I know, Tae. I know."

"Gukkie!" Taehyung cried, burying his head into Jeongguk's chest and crying his eyes out. "Oh Gukkie its you! It's you! It's always been you!" He sobbed.

"I'm so happy, TaeBear. I'm the happiest Alpha in the universe. Oh baby I'm so happy!" Jeongguk sniffled, pressing a kiss into Tae's head. "I've loved you always TaeTae. Always have and I always will."

"I love you too Guk." Taehyung sniffed, raising his head up to meet Jeongguk in a burning, passionate kiss which was long overdue.

At last the two boys were finally together, after years of hurting in silence and unspoken words of love. The universe was really on their side and as they made out happily on Taehyung's bed, there was nothing which either of them needed anymore, because they had each other.

"My sweet Omega; my beautiful mate." Jeongguk whispered, savouring the fragile moment between the two.

" I love you, Jeongguk."

"I love you too Taehyung. Always and forever."

A chaste kiss was shared.

"Happy Birthday TaeBear."

And what a happy birthday it was.
