"Hey Jungkook!" Yeri squeaked when Jungkook walked up to the table. He smiled and set his tray of food down, sitting in the seat he assumed Yeri saved for him.
"Homecoming is coming soon!" Jennie squealed. Jungkook felt his face brighten with a smile. He hadn't gone to homecoming before and was excited for a new experience.
"Do you have a date yet?" Irene asked, turning to Jennie. Jennie shook her head sadly and stabbed her fork into her salad.
"No, I'm sure I'll get one by the end of this week, though!" she beamed. Her eyes darted around the table and finally landed on Jungkook.
"What about you, Kookie?" she asked, taking in a mouthful of salad. Jungkook put down his strange lettuce wrap and felt his face flush a little.
"O-Oh, I don't know if I'm going to the dance yet," he mumbled, feeling the dull ache of his friends in the back of his mind. Everyone at the table stopped what they were doing.
"What?! You have to go!" Tzuyu said, covering her mouth so she wouldn't spit out her fruit. Nayeon grimaced.
"Yeah, Kookie! I'm sure there's a bunch of guys who are willing to take you," Yeri added from beside him. Jungkook pursed his lips together and stared down at his lettuce wrap.
"O-Okay, I'll go," he mumbled, blushing a little when the cheerleaders exploded into a bunch of excited animals. He rolled his eyes with a smile on his face and nudged Yeri.
"You better help me find an outfit and a man to take to homecoming," he pouted. Yeri rolled her eyes and patted him on the shoulder.
"Don't worry, I know exactly what to do," she mumbled, an evil smirk making its way onto her face. Jungkook gulped.
"Well, I'm heading off to class now! See you guys at practice?" Yeri asked, glancing at Hyuna. Jungkook could've sworn that her face tinted pink. Maybe it was from excitement.
"I should probably go too," Jungkook mumbled, tossing out the rest of his lettuce wrap and immediately regretting it. He gathered his things and waved to the cheerleaders before heading towards room 119 for AP Bio.
"H-Hey, Kooks!"
Jungkook stopped and turned around in the middle of the hallway, smiling a little when he saw Jimin running up to him. Once Jimin caught up, he continued walking at a decent pace.
"I-It's been a while," Jimin mumbled. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows together and turned to Jimin.
"What are you talking about?" he giggled. Jimin pursed his lips together.
"You never hang out with us anymore," he said, looking down at the floor awkwardly. Jungkook pushes his shoulder lightly and continued walking. He never realized how far away room 119 was.
"Don't say that!" he giggled, trying to lighten the mood of the awkward conversation. "I... I've just been busy with cheerleading stuff."
"Oh... really?" Jimin said but didn't push the conversation any further. Jungkook knew he didn't believe him but he didn't know what else to say. It was as if their four year friendship had disintegrated over the course of a month.
Jungkook didn't respond and continued walking alongside Jimin. Silence settled over them, only interrupted by their footsteps echoing in the hallway. Curse you, past Jungkook, for deciding to take the long route to room 119.
The two turned a corner and continued their awkward silence. Jimin didn't seem to mind. In fact, he was the one that was instituting the silence.
Jungkook held back a sigh. He glanced around the hall for a sign of anyone he knew but then remembered that they had left lunch a little early. A frown settled over his lips but was immediately wiped away when he saw Taehyung.
"H-Hey, Taehyung!" Jungkook called out from beside Jimin, the loudness of his voice scaring even him. Taehyung paused in the hallway and stared down at them, offering a slight wave in response.
"Jimin, let's catch up later!" Jungkook said, feeling a twinge of guilt when he saw how quickly Jimin's face fell. Jimin glanced between him and Taehyung and his eyes fell to the floor again.
"Y-Yeah. See you later," Jimin mumbled, turning around quickly and not bothering to make eye contact with Jungkook. Jungkook watched as he held onto the straps of his backpack tightly and sped down the hallway, turning the corner and disappearing.
Jungkook skipped over to Taehyung and gave him a huge smile. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows and smiled back, glancing behind him and Jungkook.
"Who was that?" he asked, his feet falling in time with Jungkook as they walked down the hall.
"O-Oh, that's just my friend. Don't worry about him," Jungkook mumbled, not sparing Jimin a second thought. He did feel a little awkward though. But he couldn't place where it came from.
Taehyung nodded and mumbled something under his breath. Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows together but didn't press.
"Are you going to homecoming?" he asked, a swell of confidence growing inside him. However, it disappeared as soon as the words fell out of his mouth.
"Oh, yeah. Everyone always nominates me for the homecoming court," Taehyung said. He turned and looked down at Jungkook.
"Why do you ask?"
Jungkook felt his face flush and cursed at himself for being so obvious. He glanced down at the floor, willing his face to return to its normal color.
"I-I was just curious and... and wanted to know if you had a date or not," he mumbled. He glanced up at Taehyung and bit his lip to keep his anxiety at bay.
"Oh," was all that Taehyung said.
"So do you?" Jungkook asked, pressing the conversation further.
Taehyung paused and stared at him. Jungkook couldn't tell what was going through his mind. He only knew that Taehyung put up another wall.
"Hyuna asked me."
Jungkook felt his face fall but Taehyung's eyes widened.
"But I haven't given her an answer yet!" he blurted out. Jungkook looked back up at him and smiled, feeling a light pink dust over his cheeks.
"W-Well... then would you like to go with me?"
