Ch 2: Meet Madara

Obito gets on his bike to start heading home. He didn't live too far, but the ride still takes about 30 minutes. As he rides, he feels the wind blowing on his long hair. Maybe it's time to cut it.

As his ride went on, Obito's body took over and went on auto-pilot. His thoughts overflowed and ran around inside his head. It was still unbelievable. He was able to convince SCP Minato and the rest of the Student Council to hear his plea and accept. He just so desperately needed that win. Perhaps things are starting to turn his way.

So I'm still in the race. What do I do to fight back and bring Kakashi down?

His thoughts continued to populate his brain. One thing he knew for sure, there is one person he knew who will know what to do next.

Obito biked faster towards home.

....

Flashback

7th grade

Obito was a lil chubby and had a hard time focusing on his schoolwork. He was addicted to sweets and all he did was hang out with his best friend Rin and go home and play video games.

Schoolwork was tough, so Rin always offered to help him out. He used to depend on his other best friend Kakashi for tutoring and helping him out with homework. But ever since he left a couple years before, Obito was struggling. So Rin became the one he depended on.

They got pretty close. With Kakashi being gone, she became the sole person he could rely on. She was his rock. His confidante. It felt like the natural next step to start dating. At least it seemed like they should.

Then his world got shaken up when he met his uncle Madara for the first time. He was instantly afraid of him.

"So Grandma, why does Uncle Madara have to live with us?," asked Obito.

"Madara needs our help, Obito. Whenever someone needs help, you should help them out."

"Yes grandma," Obito said, but thought to himself, Why us? He's so mean.

It was for some reason that Madara was transferred to this location because of work. That's how Granny explained it to him anyway. And what does he do for work? Granny told him what it was before. Something for the government? It was pretty confusing.

Another reason why he had to stay with them is because he didn't get along with other members of the family. And being a nice accepting person, Obito's grandma offered to let him stay with them.

Right away, Obito and Madara didn't get along. It seemed like Madara always had something about him to complain about.

"You're such a grandma's boy. Don't you ever do anything on your own?"

"If you keep eating so many sweets, you're going to stay fat."

"Can't you do your homework on your own? Why do you need your friend, Rin, always helping you?"

"Why are you such a crybaby? Stop crying. Uchiha don't cry!"

There were many other things Madara would say to insult him. It was awful living with him. He just never seemed to be happy about anything. He was always grumpy and unpleasant. Although, it seemed like he enjoyed putting Obito down. At least, that's what Obito thought back then.

It was sometime later that Madara found out about his dream to become Student Council President.

"That's funny. What makes you think you can ever become SCP?" Madara mused.

For some reason, this particular jab is what lit the fire in him.

"It's my dream! I won't let you or anyone tell me different. You'll see!" Obito says with all the conviction he can muster.

Madara, a bit surprised at Obito's fiery response says, "That's weird. I don't see you trying hard enough. You better let go of that dream of yours, kid. Might as well be living in a fantasy world."

From that moment on, Obito resolved to prove his uncle wrong.

The first thing Obito did was stop eating sweets. It was extremely hard to kick that habit. He went through sugar withdrawals and had massive headaches as a result of the lack of usual sugar intake. But slowly over time it became easier. He slowly lost weight as a result.

Madara was still strict on him though. "You think, just because you stopped eating sweets, you're going to become SCP? You're going to stay a dumbass if you suck at studying."

So instead of playing video games all the time, Obito started studying harder. It was a huge struggle. Seeing his friends at school being free to play all the newest games, got him feeling left out. But he was determined. Schoolwork first, then video games. He turned it into a routine, and sure enough, schoolwork got easier.

He didn't need Rin's help so much at school anymore. He was learning to rely on himself. She was still his best friend and they continued to hang out at school, but Obito was slowly spending less time with her. He was focusing more of his efforts to improve himself.

It was strange. His desire to prove Madara wrong was helping him focus. Over time, he learned self control and discipline. He ate less sweets and started feeling better physically. He studied more and school got a lot easier. Plus, he started to like learning.

But, Madara never let up even when Obito was beginning to show results. "You think just because you're losing weight and getting better at class, that you're still not a loser?"

It started to become this weird game of theirs. Madara insulted him constantly, but somehow encouraged him to do better. Obito also noticed Madara spoke his insults with less hostility. He was still strict as hell, but his insults started to have some constructive criticism imbedded in them.

"Hey kid, you gotta stop messing around and work harder if you want to achieve that goal of yours."

Obito sought more ways to improve himself. With Madara's strangely encouraging insults tied together with his desire to fulfill his dream of becoming SCP, Obito was becoming a better student and a better person. Was this what Madara intended all along? Pretty sneaky. Not that he would admit Madara was helping him.

Then, when he was in 8th grade, his grandma died.

Without his grandma, he was officially stuck with Madara, who agreed to take on responsibility over Obito and become his full guardian.

Obito was heartbroken over losing his grandma. And even though their relationship was improving, being stuck with his mean Uncle Madara wasn't a huge comfort.

So Obito used his grief as more fuel to achieving his goal. He searched for ways to improve himself physically and mentally. He buried himself in his studies, he started working out more and trained his body.

Madara also seemed a lot less harsh on him. Perhaps he understood Obito was grieving over his loss and decided to go easier on him, or maybe seeing Obito working hard on himself earned his respect.

One day, Madara told him he would help him achieve his dream.

"What did you say?" Obito felt like he was hearing things.

"I'm going to help you achieve your silly childish dream," said Madara.

"What the hell? All this time, you kept making fun of me for having it," said Obito, still in disbelief. This has got to be a trick. No way would this grumpy bastard admit to helping him.

"You heard me. I already repeated myself twice. Don't make me whack you with my boot."

So Madara started giving him advice.

"You're in a much better spot than when you started, Obito. But you still have a long way to go. To achieve this ridiculous goal of yours, you must be as perfect in all ways as you can be."

"How do you know so much about what it takes to be SCP?"

"Well, I was Student Council Vice President," Madara says plainly.

"What?? You were on student council? Who was president?" Obito says, shocked.

"Doesn't matter now. Only thing you need to know is that he was better than me, and that explains a lot as far as how much work you'll need to do."

Wow. Someone who was better than Madara? That's insane. Madara is a huge asshole, but he certainly is impressive. Hard to imagine him getting beat by someone else.

Freshman Year

Now with Madara more actively guiding him towards his goal, Obito started to ace his classes. His childish dream started to feel less like a fantasy.

It was around this time that Obito and Rin decided to break up. It was mutual. They still really cared about each other and were really close, but their relationship never became more than that. They still remained best friends and each others first confidante.

Then Obito ran for office for the first time. It was really hard. Harder than he imagined it would be like. So he went and snagged the lowest position on student council, Freshman COPR. No one else was running for it.

Madara challenged him to join more clubs and take on more responsibility on top of classwork. So Obito got a part-time job at the nearby grocery, volunteered to do community service deliveries on bike to the elderly, and joined more clubs at school.

With Madara's unconventional boot-camp upbringing, Obito somehow learned to balance all these things. Obito felt like he could take on anything.

That was, until his old best friend from childhood came back. And that really threw a socket wrench into his plans.

....

Present

Obito's memory filled bike ride finally takes him home. It's already been such a long journey since that first day of school at the auditorium. No way is he going to let all that hard work go to waste.

He walks up to his front door, unlocking it to go inside. Seeing the person in the living room, he says, "Hey Uncle Maddy."

"I told you not to call me that," Madara says with an annoyed grunt.

"Why not? You want me to call you Uncle Madara? Sounds creepy as fuck."

"Watch it, kid,"Madara says casually, "unless you want to see this boot connect with your face."

Obito smirking to himself. "Ok sure whatever. I have news."

"What is it now? Still moping over losing to that prick again."

Obito looks at his uncle, a determined smile on his face. "Not anymore... We have work to do."
