I will be damned if I let them go there alone.

I waited till they left then I grabbed my keys and headed for the door. Dex stopped me before I could exit. Damn fool is just like me. He doesn't want her around her ex anymore than I do.
He grabbed my arm, pulling me back from the door. I knew what wanted before her even said it.

"I'm going with you." Glancing over to Knox and Jaye they both have smug smiles on their faces. The fuckheads knew all the time that I wouldn't let her go so easily.

"Fine, we can take the SUV." Dex nods his head as we grab our jackets. Waving our goodbyes to Knox and Jaye.

Dino bought an black new shiny SUV he thought we needed it for the extra room. I'm silently thanking him now for purchasing it. Climbing in the drivers seat I turn to look at Dex.

"You can't go in there all half cocked with jealousy. I don't like him but he has lost his mate so let's show a little sympathy." Dex just nods his head as I start the vehicle driving over to make sure Jacob doesn't do anything to hurt Promise, again. He's done it once and that's just one time too many for me.

"Where's his house located? It's the second time Dex has asked me the same question on our way here. His impatience is irking my nerves.

"Last one on the left." I grunt, turning into the driveway. Promises car is sitting right behind a blue Ford truck. Assuming it's Jacobs, I park the our SUV next to it.

Jumping out after we park we head straight for the door. Leaning my ear on the door I'm hoping I can hear some sort of conversation but damn Dex has other ideas pounding his fist on the door loudly.

"I was trying to listen!" He just shrugs his shoulder nonchalantly, eyeing the door. Ignoring me completely.

Promise opens the door eyeing both of us suspiciously. Her beautiful green emerald eyes flick back and forth between us.

"What are you two dong here?" Dino comes over to stand behind her, the prick has a devious smile on his face like he knew what we're planning to do all along.

"You we're taking to long." I sheepishly say, she takes her phone from her back pocket of her blue jeans checking the time. Her eyes flash to us with a curious expression.

"It's only been an hour." Shrugging my shoulders nonchalantly just like Dex did early, she sighs opening the door wider, with arm her arm out beckoning us both in.

Walking past the threshold we see Jacob sitting at long table, there's tons of food in containers spread out all over it before him.

Shooting my eyes to Jacob observing his appearance, he looks awful. With black circles under his red rimmed eyes, he looks paler than the last time I saw him on campus. I don't even want to imagine what he's going through, feeling pity for the poor bastard with his heartbreak I can't him but acknowledge him. Though I don't want to. It's the polite thing to do. Right?

"Hey Jacob, sorry for your loss man." He nods his head weakly at me, while eyeing Dex and I. Promise stands behind him with her hands on his shoulders, kneading them in comfort.

Dino stands opposite of Promise with his eyes latched onto her hands that's on Jacob. Which surprises me I didn't think he even had an interest in her in any type of way but to torture her daily. Either he's lying to us or himself? I choose the latter.

Grabbing a chair I take a seat across from Jacob while Dex takes the one next to him. Other than what I've already said I have no idea how to make conversation on a subject as deep as this. Clearing my throat grabbing everyone's attention, I place my arms across the table, leaning over it.

"Do they have any idea who did it yet?" I'm actually curious because the situation seems awfully familiar. The warlock who cast his spell on Promise was decapitated just like Shasta was. It just couldn't be coincidence. Could it?

"No. They have no clues," he looks over his shoulder looking directly at my mate. "Can we talk in private?" Jacob ask her, Promise nods her while grabbing his hand. Jacob stands and they walk over to his sofa. It's not to far away from us but I still don't like his hands on her. Keeping my eye on them I lean back in the chair, spreading my legs. Dino takes the seat that Jacob previously occupied also eyeing them on the sofa. Dex is glaring in the same direction, obviously me and my brothers have a lot of jealousy issues.

Jacob has his hands in Promises gripping them a little to tightly for my comfort. Fuck! I'm just now realizing how possessive I am of her, seemingly, just like my two brothers. When did I become someone who becomes jealous over a simple little touch? I need a fucking distraction from what is going on in front of me. Deciding to mind-linking my brothers. To see exactly what they're thinking about all of this and to have a little fun. Obviously.

"Why are you eyeing her Dino? I thought you weren't interested?" He looks at me with a sour expression, cracking his neck.

"I'm not. I just don't want him hurting her. It is my job to look after her!" For fuck sakes! He has got to be kidding.

"Job? Are you getting paid for it man? If so, I feel cheated!" Dino grunts.

"Shut the fuck up Dawson. Quit being an ass!" Smirking I turn to watch him closely.

"Man why don't you just give in already. You know you want to." I can see it in the way he looks at her that he wants her he just won't admit it. He's too damn stubborn for his own good.

"You don't know a damn thing about what I want." Oh but I do!

"I don't? I see you looking at her like you can't her out of your head. You want her, so why do you keep fighting it?" He rubs the bridge of his nose, clearly agitated.

"I know why!" Dex pipes in.

"Shut the fuck up Dex! Leave it alone." Dino scorches him with an evil glare. Just what the hell happened to him?

"What are two not telling me? Come on, I know there's something you're keeping from me. I'm not stupid Dino. Just tell me already." Why can't he just open up to me? He opened up Dex. Fuck I'm his brother too. I don't like being the one that he can't turn to.

"It's nothing. Leave it alone Dawson!" Hell no! Nope! No way!

"Just tell him Dino he should know what happened! You need to talk to someone. You can't keep it all inside." Please tell me! I wish he would just confess already. I clearly just want to help him why can't he just see that?

"I'm fine! I won't tell you again. Just let it go." Not gonna happen. Not if I can help him.

"I'm sorry Dino. I can't do that. Something is eating you up inside. It has been for a long time. I'm your brother let me help you. Please." I will practically beg him if I have to. If he needs help doesn't he see that I would do anything to make his situation better? Doesn't he see how much I love him?

"I'm fine Dawson. I don't need your shoulder to cry on I have a mate remember!" No he doesn't. He has a funny definition of the word mate.

"No you don't. You have a roommate. You don't even try to have a relationship with her. You treat her like shit all the time." Maybe if he could just once treat her like she deserves then he could find his way to talk her if he can't talk to me.

"Yea, brother dear, I wouldn't be surprised if she rejected you because of the way you act around her. If you were my mate I would have rejected your grouchy ass already!" I agree with Dex wholeheartedly. He ignores her, jibes her, and just can't seem to get along with her. I don't understand why he does it. He has a piss poor attitude that needs adjustments.

"Well then, I guess I'm lucky then that I'm not your mate! She won't reject me I'm fairly sure of that. Now can we please drop this subject?" They hell she wouldn't! Promise will only take so much before she snaps. I'm living proof of that.

"That sure about it huh? I got news for you brother she almost rejected me. When all that shit went down with Tawny and Danny it was on the tip her tongue, she was about to reject me. I had to practically beg her not to do it. So don't think for one second that she wouldn't do it to you also." Remembering what happened makes me feel like a complete ass. I almost lost her and I never want to go through that kind of heartbreak again. If Dino knew how that felt he wouldn't be so damn condescending about Promises will of rejection.

"It doesn't matter anyway if she decides to reject me or not. She has plenty of mates to keep her happy. How can you two even think that this is fair?" Scowling at him, I don't understand him at all.

"What do you mean?" Dex ask, apparently I'm not the only one who completely clueless.

"She ends up with more mates than she can even handle but we only get one to satisfy all of our needs? I don't understand that equation. Have you ever thought just for one second, that the fates could have been wrong?" Is he crazy? The fates are never wrong, their strings of life are directed for us at birth. It's a map of our lives and the people we cross. It was destined be this way, he knows this.

"I don't see it that way. They blessed her with us and us with her. I feel privileged to be her mate but then again, I do love her." More than he or Dex could even imagine. She has become to mean more to me than either of them seem to realize.

"You love her? Get real Dawson how could you possibly love her? You haven't even known her that long and how can you possibly love somebody that you have to share with others" I'm getting so damn tired of hearing this shit from him. He hasn't got a clue about what love really is how can he question me about what I damn well feel?

"That's simple. It doesn't matter how long I've been with her Dino, I truly do love her. As for sharing her well let's just say it's easier than would think it is. If you love somebody you would do anything to make them happy." And that my friend is exactly what love is all about. I only wish that Dino could feel love like I do. Maybe he would be a happier person if he would just break down those damn barriers and let someone finally in.

"I agree with Dawson, Dino I feel the same way. If you would just get over what happened to you then you would feel the same way about her that we do but until then you're just stuck in this world of hate you have created." Dino keeps his pain in, he always done it. What the hell happened that's so damn bad that he would act like this? I will get to the bottom of this.

"What happened Dino?" Im absolutely begging.

"I...I can't talk about that right now Dawson please I'm begging you brother, just drop it!" I guess I'm going to have to be patient. He's not going to tell me anything about it. No matter how much I want to know I'll just have to be happy with not knowing for a little while longer.

"Fine I'll let it go...for now!" He sighs probably relieved that I'll drop it for now. But I will get the information out of him even if I have to beat his ass to get it.

So engrossed in our conversation we didn't even notice that Promise and Jacob left the room.

"Where they go?" Jumping up from my seat I start looking all through the house for them. I hear Dino and Dexs chair scraping against the wooden floor getting up to join the search for our lost mate and her companion.

Searching every room in the Jacobs house we can't find them anywhere. I'm starting to get worried. Till I hit the back door and see them standing in the backyard hand in hand.

Dino and Dex come up behind me watching the scene before us we all start to get highly aggravated.

Jacob has his hands in Promises, standing at the edge of the yard. They're both in a heavy conversation but what I see bothers me more than even I want to admit.

Jacobs looking at Promise with such admiration in his eyes. He brings her in closer to him, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. Inclining his head on her neck.

Promise awkwardly stands there not knowing how to handle the embrace her hands hang loosely down beside her.

After a second she brings both of her hands slowly up around him, patting him lightly on his back.

She doesn't show him a lot of affection but he is definitely showing her his. He nuzzles his nose on her neck, bringing her even closer to him.

Jealousy really hits me then, I feel the emotion boiling inside of me making me feel things that I can't exactly explain. All I know is that I want his fucking hands off of her and now!

"Promise! Time to go!" She jumps back away from Jacob, eyeing us wearingly.

She murmurs something to Jacob then starts jogging to us hurriedly. Her expression shows confusion, there's no doubt in my mind that she's pretty much innocent but Jacob on the other hand is another story. After seeing what I saw just now there's no way I'm letting Promise go anywhere near him again.

She passes by me giving me a tentative smile as I eye Jacob with anger and suspicion. He only stares at me as I close the back door, but I could of sworn. Before I closed the door completely,

He had a fucking smirk on his face!
