Summer Bell has tried to be the perfect daughter for as long as she remembers. She keeps her head down, studies hard and does what her mother Eleanor asks of her. She's well known at school, yet has never had any close friends. When Summer was 12 her parents divorce, breaking the close relationship she had with her father. He was the opposite of Summer's mom, warm and caring. Visiting his daughter every weekend, their relationship managed to hang on by a string over the years, but when he sees the lengths Eleanor has taken to ensure Summer remains the perfect daughter, he decides to have her finish her senior year off with him, his wife and step children. Summer is hesitant about the move, being out from under the control of her overbearing mother is a foreign feeling. She's not exactly welcomed with open arms either... Neither her new step siblings or the cute guy at school who never hesitates to insult her in some way, want her around.
