There are only two things Skytte Irie hates more than the rain- pirates and alcohol. In the days of legend, when every man knew of yokai and their dangers, there were the sacred beasts. Seen as guardians of the people, they were worshiped by some as strongly as the gods. Unlike the average yokai, they meant no harm. Each merely viewed themselves as a protector of their region. A shield between the yokai and the fragile humans. To the east laid the fearsome dragon. The south to the virtuous phoenix. The north to the wise tortoise. The west to the king of beasts- the fierce white tiger. Over time, however, the people forgot about them. As the yokai drew more into the world of yonder the need for such protectors died away along with many minor gods and goddesses who'd also served as a barrier between the worlds. Unlike the born gods, however, the yokai didn't depend on their worshipers to live. Having toed the line between divinity and demon for years, many of them survived, blending into the yokai world as common creatures. Akitora, the last in a long line of such beasts, is a memory of the forgotten age. Unable to completely push away the past, she's wandered for years, concealing herself among the crowd. A warrior in an age where such people are unneeded. When Emi's wild nature results in her "choosing" to leave Lobelia, the girls transfer to Ouran for a fresh start. Unfortunately, this fresh start becomes entrenched with a horror from their past, bogged down with the return of their estranged brother, and a bit wild when combined with a host of new friends.Whether its good, or bad, as the horror grows stronger, so do their friendships. Morioka Nao is taken in by her uncle when her parents and brother die in a car accident. Closing herself off from her feelings of grief, she throws herself even further into her love of dancing, a hobby her uncle finds useless. Being the owner of a profitable dojo himself, he makes a deal with Nao. If she wins first place in a large competition, then she can continue as she is. If she doesn't, then she has to quit dance and devote herself to becoming his heir. When she ends up losing, Nao reluctantly follows her end of the bet. Becoming the perfect daughter, she continues to cut herself off from her emotions, and seclude herself from those around her, barely even taking note of the names of her classmates.
