Last book, Ava had been taken by Angels and the British Men of Letters who brainwashed her to try to control Ariel and Faith, and to kill Lucifer's sons, who are named Jack and Kai. Ava doesn't want to hurt or kill anyone, but when the spell forces her to lash out, she can barely control herself. Ariel and Faith could heal her little at a time, but if they went too far, they would potentially make the damage on her mind permanent and worse than it is.
