The maze is where they put people for entertainment. Not the persons entertainment, but theirs. The Government is cruel. Every year or so, they pluck three children from the ages of 12 - 18 and put them in a terrifying, deathly maze. The maze is packed full with poison, murderous animals and people, deathly temperatures and hardly any water or food. They keep these three children in the maze for several weeks. If there any survivors left by that time, they get to go home. For those several weeks, The maze is televised on every screen in the country. It is mandatory viewing, and horrific at that.
