In this AU Richard was never taken in by batman, instead he was taken in by his great grandfather, William Cobb. Will then proceeded to explain to him how he was chosen to become the next talon. Richard refused at first but, eventually all the guilt he had built up due to failing to save his parents turned to hatred. Hatred toward Tony zucco, the man who killed his family in the first place.
