6. Lists make everything better
"What do you think?" Talia asked Jeremiah.
Jeremiah took a sip of his wine. "You want to play house with a man you hate. Convince the world and your families that you are in love. Then what? What happens when everything finally fades away?"
"I assume we go our separate ways."
"Talia, that is a big damn assumption."
"I know, Jeremiah but what else can I do?"
"Oh I don't know, tell the truth? Screw Catherine and her fucked up morals. Maybe this would be the kick in the ass you need to write that novel of yours."
"Come on, Jeremiah. I need my job."
"What are you sacrificing for a job that isn't even your passion?"
Talia sipped her wine. She had no response.
"Have you thought if you really do fall in love with him? How will you deal with that? I love you, sweetie. I don't want to see you get hurt. You've been hurt enough."
"I'm a big girl." She motioned to her body. "I can handle myself. But, I don't think that is going to be necessary. There is no way either one of us will ever fall in love with each other. The hate is deep."
"There is a thin line between love and hate."
"Not the line between Zeke and I."
Jeremiah shook his head. "Who are you trying to convince, Talia? Me or you?"
"What? I'm trying to get my best friend's opinion."
With a deep breath, Zeke said, "My opinion is that I don't think you should do it. But, if you feel you have to out of a misguided attempt to save your career then I am here to support you."
Talia gulped the rest of her wine. "Alright. I guess I'm moving in with Zeke for a while."
"I guess you are. Now, let's watch some trashy tv before you leave me for an undetermined amount of time."
Talia strode over to the couch plopping down next to Jeremiah. "I'm going to miss you."
"Sweetie, come over here as much as you want. However, I may have guests at times." He winked. Talia smacked his chest.
While they watched wannabe celebrities make fools of themselves on television, a vibration alerted her of an incoming text.
Dumbass: So are you moving in?
Talia: Who is this?
Dumbass: The sexiest man in town 😉
Talia: Max Hamilton? How did you get my number?
Dumbass: What?
Talia: I thought you'd never contact me
Minutes ticked by after the last text. She could practically hear him thinking through the phone. When the phone vibrated again, her laugh had Jeremiah snatching her phone away.
Dumbass: Talia, It's me, Zee.
"Will you stop messing with that boy?" Jeremiah threw her phone at her.
"You're no fun."
Talia: I knew it was you, dumbass. You know that's what I have your number listed as...Dumbass.
Dumbass: That wasn't funny.
Talia: Awe is the A-lister's ego bruised. Isn't Max one of your friends anyway? You can't tell me you're jealous.
Dumbass: No....but why did you pick him.
Talia: Cause he's hot with no shirt on. Most movies he makes he is half naked in.
Dumbass: Should you be watching those kinds of movies?
Talia: You are really living up to your name, Dumbass. Anyway, I have decided to move in. How does this weekend sound?
Minutes ticked by again. This time no thinking dots appeared. Zeke just disappeared. Talia put her phone to the side while she and Jeremiah finished the show. The clock showed after midnight when a wave of exhaustion hit her. She glanced at her phone. A text from Zeke a few hours ago blinked at her.
Dumbass: You can't move in sooner?
Talia: This weekend it is. See you then.
Powering down her phone, Talia picked up a notepad. Making lists was a favorite past time of hers. Temporarily moving into a movie star's home required quite a few lists. Some for her but most for him.
"Oh No. Are you making your lists now?" Jeremiah asked.
"Of course. It makes me feel less crazy."
"It doesn't make you look less crazy." Talia shoved her elbow into his side.
"There is a lot to organize."
Jeremiah nodded and looked at the list she was currently writing. "What is that list?"
Talia blushed. "It's a list of topics he is allowed to discuss with my family."
"You realize he is best friends with your brother, right?"
"I can't have him just going off half cocked like he did with that interview." Talia threw her hands into the air flinging the pen across the room.
"I wouldn't mind him going whole cocked with me."
Talia made a gagging noise. "Focus please."
Jeremiah shrugged. "What can I say? I can appreciate a good work of art."
"Next list is going to places he cannot go without me and your bedroom is number one."
"Oh, sweetie if we were going to do that we would have done that already." Talia blushed when she realized what she'd said. He smirked at her blush. "Honey, you know I will leave you to the bedroom Olympics with Zee."
Talia grimaced. "That won't be happening."
"Are you sure?"
"Why would two people who hate each other screw? It makes no sense."
"You've never hate fucked anyone before?" Jeremiah asked. "How did I not know this?"
"Why would that ever be something we discuss?"
He shrugged and turned back toward the television. "You know everyone I've screwed."
"Jeremiah, I love you, but there aren't many people you haven't screwed."
He turned back toward her and wiggled his eyebrows. "You wanna join that list?" He went to grab her, but she brandished a new pen like a weapon.
"Stay away you rogue!" She laughed.
Jeremiah leaned toward the notepad tapping the paper. "Next list, Reasons not to hate fuck, Zee Jaxon."
Talia threw the pen at the retreating form of her best friend.
