The long hallways were bare of students as St. Clement's dedicated a whole day for a career consultation. It was exclusive for senior students and their parents.
Amara pretended to listen though her mind was far away as she stared at the window. Her mother elbowed her as the counselor eyed her. "What?"
"Are you pursuing a music career then?"
"I guess so. It depends when I win the state music competition," she answered. Amara decided that she'd go into music if she won. If she lost, well... that wouldn't be a possibility.
They exited the office with her mother sighing loudly. "Princess, I never thought you'd be set on a musical path? Don't you wanna do something else?"
"Actually, mom, I just wanna be rich without working." Amara tied her hair in a bun, reducing the heat of the day.
Her mother laughed. "Isn't that the dream?"
"Let's go, mom. I wanna sleep!"
"What do you mean? I'm gonna meet your classmates' parents!"
Amara arched an intrigued brow. "Seriously? You don't even know anyone there."
Some of the parents and students who waited for their consultation were hanging out in the cafeteria. Amara figured it was another way to make contacts for their college applications. But she's one of those who didn't give a shit.
"I know Vida. Come on." Her mother dragged her by the arm. She marched through the hallways and towards the intricate Roman carvings of the cafeteria's door.
Amara dragged her feet as her mother greeted people she barely knew. She scanned the place for Primo and drew a sharp intake as she saw him with Natasha and their mothers.
No way.
She stomped towards the group and engulfed Primo's mother in a hug. "Mamma Vida! I miss you!"
The older woman chuckled, patting her back. "Princess, it's nice to see you!"
She pulled back with a wide smile, ignoring Primo's displeased stare from where he sat.
"And who do we have here?"
Amara looked at the speaker. A petite woman with pale blonde curls framing her face. Her lips were tight, observing her form.
"Oh, mom! She's my friend," Natasha muttered.
"I'm not," Amara stated, relishing the shock faces around her. She chuckled. "I meant, we're basically sisters, right?"
Natasha nodded hesitantly. "And Amara, this is my mother, Natalia Tchenkov."
Amara held out her hand towards the older woman. "I'm Amara Luciano."
Her face brightened as she received her hand. "I see. Nice to meet you, Miss Luciano."
"Do you want to join us, Ama?" Mamma Vida ushered her to an empty table where Primo drank his coffee.
The cafeteria had an Italian buffet for today's event. She got a pesto salad paired with a blue tea. Amara sat in front of Primo with Natasha and her mother to his left. Vida sat next to her as Callista took the seat to the farthest right.
The adults talk while Primo's feet nudged her from under the table. His blue eyes were full of questions.
"I take it your families are close?" Mrs. Tchenkov asked.
"Well, yes. Our husbands used to work together," Callista replied with a small smile.
"Yes. Too bad their contracts could only be renewed once in a while," Vida said. Her light blue eyes flitted towards Amara. "Although, that can easily be remedied if Amara would become my daughter-in-law."
Primo choked on his coffee at the same time Amara coughed. She didn't expect that her Mamma Vida had thoughts like that.
Amara grinned at her audience. "If Primo doesn't mind, why not?"
The atmosphere tensed as Primo shot up. His azure eyes blazed in veiled anger. He took Amara's wrist and dragged her to the shaded part of the courtyard where the trees were thicker.
Amara crossed her arms, lips quirking at the waves of anxiety that rolled off her best friend.
"Is this fun for you?" he exclaimed.
"It is."
Primo clutched her shoulders tight. Her jaw muscles ticked. "Amara... why are you doing this?"
"Why not?"
"What?" he scoffed. "You mean you just want to mess with me? Is that it?"
"No!" Amara dismissed. She wanted to save him. "I... I like you!"
Astonishment crossed his handsome features. Primo's hold on her loosened. "Are you serious?"
She held his face between her palms, her finger tracing his lips. "Don't we deserve to try?"
Primo cussed before he leaned forward and kissed her lips. It was a soft touch that made her skin tingle and made butterflies erupt in her stomach.
But it seemed that wasn't enough as Primo clutched her nape, kissing her deeper. He buried his fingers in her long hair, their chests pressed together. His other hand gripped her ass that made her groan. She opened her lips that Primo quickly dominated the kiss.
Amara let him. She didn't have much experience with boys. Most of them were intimidated by her and the few that dared were... nice.
This time, she wouldn't dare describe this as nice. This was marvelous almost divine.
Primo bit her lower lip as he dipped his tongue deeper in her mouth. Amara snaked her arms around his neck and dig her nails at his back. He moaned at her action before his lips lowered to her neck.
Amara bit her swollen lips as Primo tugged at her uniform. He opened the first two buttons, licking at the spot between her breasts. He sucked and nipped at the tattoo as Amara huffed with desire.
"Amara!"
She pushed Primo away as her mother's voice echoed in the courtyard.
Primo rubbed at his lips, eyes blown wide with regret.
"What?" Amara asked.
"This is wrong!" he rasped, combing through his messy hair. "I'm not a cheater!"
Amara's eyes trailed at his leaving form. She couldn't blame him. But she wouldn't stop either.
Not when she knew that he could kiss like that.
