As soon as Stiles and I get home we go straight to his computer, mine being dead from last nights dead end.
He searches 'Lycaon' first, 'The First Werewolf'. The first tab he clicks on says Lycaon is a king who tried to get Zeus to eat human... Which Zeus then punished him for by turning Lycaon and his sons into wolves. Zeus also struck their house with his lightning bolt.
Wow, this is so cool, why don't we learn any of this in school?!
The same article says that some think that those who are werewolves stay in their wolf shape forever if they don't eat human flesh every ten years, yikes. These wolves don't look like the hot, cool kind in movies and tv shows....
"Ooo, click on that!" I point as Stiles continues to search.
We look up 'Wolfsbane' or "Aconitum vulparia (lycoctonum)" but that's mouth full. One website says it's a ritual for wolves, either to repel or strengthen them. It says it's therapeutic but also says it can be used as poison, very confusing. Another website says that the Wolfsbane plant was used to kill wolves. A picture shows it's this purple flower looking plant, nothing out of the ordinary. Wonder if we could find some?
We then pause our web-search and Stiles pulls out some books we quickly grabbed at the school library after practice on Werewolf mythology, myths, information, whatever we could get our hands on, and that the book limit allowed us to get. My head is spinning from all the fast-paced information I'm trying to take in, but this is all really interesting to me. I've always loved mythology stuff like this, like Norse that's touched on in Marvel comics, Greek in Percy Jackson, and more.
Okay, Scott was right, I am the nerdiest nerd. But Stiles got into Percy Jackson first!
He quickly types in silver and scrolls through some silver bullet stuff and we find some gruesome images of werewolves being killed, double yikes. He prints some off and we go back to looking before the door being knocked on causes both of us to jump and I almost fall backwards off the stool I'm sitting on.
Stiles opens it to reveal Scott and he sighs in relief as I let my hand fall off my chest.
"Whew."
Scott smiles as Stiles opens the door further. "Get in here. You gotta see this thing."
He nods to me as he walks in and Stiles shuts the door and I return the gesture. I see he has his backpack and different clothes on from...
Wait- Is it the next morning?!
"We've been up all night reading." Stiles informs him. Oh, guess so. Wow, and I'm not even tired. Huh, after 4am I stopped checking the time. "Websites, books. All this information." Stiles joins me back at the desk and laptop.
"We're loaded down with info." I look to Scott.
"How much Adderall have you had today?" Scott asks before turning to me. "Sugar?"
Stiles shrugs. "A lot."
"Only two twinkies, two energy drinks, and some candy." I wave him off. Had to stay awake some how and I can't take Adderall anymore because several years ago when Stiles and I started taking it I would get sleep insomnia and pass out sometimes from dizziness. Fun, right?
Scott chuckles at our responses as Stiles continues. "Doesn't matter. Okay, just listen." He does a complete 360 in his rollie chair as Scott throws his back pack down, taking a seat on the bed.
"Oh, is this about the body? Did they find out who did it?" He asks.
"No, they're still questioning people, even Derek and Grayson Hale." Stiles informs.
"What?!" I whip my head around to him. Since when are they suspects? Huh, so Derek's... whoever, name is Grayson. Ooo, I like that name.
"Oh, the guy's in the woods we saw the other day." Scott recalls.
"Yeah! Yes. But that's not it, okay?" Stiles waves his hands around like crazy.
"What, then?" Scott chuckles softly.
"Yes, hurry Stiles, out with it." I motion for him to go faster before I end up taking over.
"Remember the joke from the other day?" Stiles laughs nervously as I smile awkwardly at Scott. "Not a joke anymore." Scott just looks at us cluelessly. He's not getting it. "The wolf. The bite in the woods." Stiles jumps back in.
"Awhooo." I howl weakly... He's gonna think we're nuts, which we are, but-
"Kai and I started doing all this reading-" Stile begins to flip through the pages before jumping up abruptly causing me to jolt backwards and almost fall off my stool. "Do you even know why a wolf howls?"
"Should I?" Scott questions.
"It's a signal, okay?" Stiles snaps.
"Like a bat signal, but for wolves." I nod.
"When a wolf's alone, it howls to signal its location to the rest of the pack." Stiles explains.
"Conversing." I add. I always knew when dogs barked they were talking to other dogs.
"So if you heard a wolf howling, that means others could have been nearby." Stiles stumbles his words, trying to talk a hundred miles per hour.
"Trying to get a hold of other wolves." I spell it out for Scott. Ooo, like a telephone! A wolf-phone!
"Maybe even a whole pack of 'em." Stiles points out.
"Mhmm."
"A whole pack of wolves?" Scott sounds shocked. Ohhh, just wait.
"No." Stiles sighs. Rip off the band-aid!
"Werewolves." We say at the same time.
We stare at Scott as his brows furrow.
"Are you seriously wasting my time with this?" He hops up annoyed and scoffs. "You know I'm picking up Allison in an hour." He grabs his bag.
"Ooo, really?" I ask impressed.
"I saw you on the field, Scott." Stiles holds out his hand to stop him. "Okay, what you did wasn't just amazing, all right? It was impossible."
I look at him sheepishly. "He's right." And I never say that.
Scott rolls his eyes. "Yeah, so I made a good shot." He grumbles, taking a step forward.
Stiles pushes him back. "No, you made an incredible shot." And grabs Scott's bag.
"Stiles..." I sigh. I don't want to make Scott mad or upset. I just wanted to inform him what he found- think... discovered.
"I mean, the way you moved, your speed, your reflexes." Stiles carries on. "You know, people can't just suddenly do that overnight."
"Yeah, you sucked before." I toss out there. Okay, well, I said I didn't want to make him upset, I didn't say I wouldn't tell him the truth.
"And there's the vision and the senses, and don't even think we don't notice you don't need your inhaler anymore." Stiles points out.
"Hmm, good one, good one." I point to my brother before turning back to Scott. "Look, Scottie, asthma doesn't just disappear over night, and people don't just wake up a gold medal athlete, I mean come on." I try to reason with him, talk some sense. I don't mean to burst his bubble or anything, but has he not thought any of this was weird? Definitely out of the ordinary.
"Okay!" Scott shouts at us. "Guys, I can't even think about this now. We'll talk tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? What? No!" Stiles eyes bug out. "The full moon's tonight. Don't you get it!"
"What are you trying to do? I just made first line, I got a date with a girl who I can't believe wants to go out with me, and everything in my life is somehow perfect. Why are you trying to ruin it?" Scott snaps.
"I'm trying to help." Stiles takes a seat, looking up at him.
"Exactly." Took the words right out of my mouth. "We're not trying to ruin anything." I cross my arms.
"You're cursed, Scott." Oh my gosh.
"Okay, that's not help." I mutter.
Scott just glares at Stiles.
"You know, and it's not just the moon that will cause you to physically change. It also just so happens to be when your bloodlust will be at its peak." Stiles tells him.
I face palm. Okay, put the band-aid back on.
"Bloodlust?" Scott repeats.
"Yeah, your urge to kill." Stiles explains.
I sigh, slowly sitting back down.
"I'm already starting to feel an urge to kill, Stiles." Scott reveals. Oh... I shrink back a little.
Stiles ignores him, spinning around to the desk. "You gotta hear this." He grabs the book. "The change can be caused by anger or anything that raises your pulse." He flips back around, slamming the book. "Alright? I haven't seen anyone raise your pulse like Allison does." He raises his voice, jumping to his feet once again. "You gotta cancel this date. I'm gonna call her right now."
I stand quickly. "Okay, Stiles, just wait a second."
He grabs Scott's bag and pulls out his phone.
"What are you doing?" Scott asks annoyedly.
"I'm canceling the date." Stiles repeats himself.
"No, give it to me!" Scott yells and quickly grabs Stiles, slamming him against the wall.
"Oh my god, Scott!" I shout running over to them as Scott rears his fist back. I grab his arm as he grips Stiles shirt and try to yank him away. He nudges me back and I slip on the papers scattered everywhere into the floor and he knocks the rollie chair over.
I look up in complete shock and he breathes heavily starting at Stiles for a minute before he lets go and his body relaxes.
"I-I'm sorry." He lets out before quickly turning around to me. "I'm so sorry." He stares at me in shock. "I-I gotta go get ready for that party." He stampers.
Stiles stares off into space as Scott slowly grabs his bag and moves to the door.
I shake my head. What the hell just happened?
"I'm sorry." Scott says again before leaving. Stiles bangs his head back against the wall before coming to help me up.
"Are you okay?" He breaks the silence.
"My ass hurts a little, you?" I huff.
He just nods before picking up his chair. He freezes.
"What? What, Stiles what is it?" I hurry over to look and find three claw marks in the leather of his chair... We slowly look at each other, worry etched across our faces.
Oh shit...
