I Fear
I'm not a nice person.
'But that can't be', you say-
'You seem so nice, so fun.'
You don't know me, okay?
Let's clear the air,
'cause you need to know,
Let me put this out there:
The things you see are what I show.
Let's face it-
I'm words on a screen.
And there you sit,
Reading what is seen.
But that's not who I am,
Those words I type to you
Are really just a sham
Except for one or two
People I could name
I have hidden every truth
From the day to here I came.
No I'm not aloof,
I engage just fine
In all your little games
I talk an awesome line
And stay inside your picture frames.
But the truth in fact is simple-
You don't know me
And your touch doesn't even ripple
On my life-scale sea.
'Why' you ask
Well that's a good question
Let me give you a task-
Face a monster and learn a lesson.
I've got secrets
Things I hide
In my deepest
Corners they abide.
But we've all got monsters,
All got shadows,
Some darker than others,
Some that everyone knows,
And some we keep from them.
The things we speak aloud;
The things we ourselves condemn.
The ones that never make a sound;
The ones that scream inside my head.
The things that you will never see;
The things that haunt the words I've said-
These are the things that scare even me,
The things that I will never tell you
No matter how close we get here;
Because if I open up, give you a clue-
You will walk away, I fear.
