Made Damn Sure That Pilate Washed His Hands & Sealed His Fate

"Charlie?"

Keith couldn't believe his eyes, but right before him was indeed sitting Charlie Watts. The probably last person he ever had suspected to end up in Hell. He rubbed his eyes, but the drummer stayed where he was, sitting in a chair and having a cup of tea like everything was perfectly normal. It looked like something Keith had at least seen a million times in his life, that it nearly seemed ridicule to see now in Hell.

However no matter how he looked at it, it was Charlie Watts. His mannerism, his looks, his clothes, everything was so Charlie that Keith had to accept the fact that indeed the gentle drummer had ended up in Hell and he wondered if it was their fault... Charlie never had done any wrong, he was probably the most reasonable person Keith knew. So why should Charlie out of all the people end up here, Keith asked himself and that was the moment he realised he had missed a certain little detail before. Why was Charlie even here to begin with? He couldn't have died too, could he?

"Don't tell me you kicked the bucket too!" Keith exclaimed.

Charlie chuckled. "Oh no, I am who you want me to be. Most refer to me as the Reason and if you see me as your friend that only means you think he's very reasonable." Keith nearly wanted to laugh out loud. He didn't know out of relief that Charlie was still alive or about the circumstance that for him the personification of reason was Charlie Watts, but well it did make sense that it was Charlie, rather then one of the others. "So what brings you to me?"

Keith scratched his neck. He had no idea why he was actually here, beside that Persewhatever had dragged him here for some reason he had no knowledge of, but hadn't she said that Charlie or well the Reason would explain everything? "Eh... Perse something brought me here. She said you would explain everything."

Charlie sighed and gestured for Keith to sit down in a chair next to him. "Well, have a seat then. Do you want some tea?"

"Don't you have something stronger?" Keith asked as he sat down on the opposite side of the Reason, which he decided to call Charlie in his mind, simply because it was easier and seemed less ominous than Reason. Couldn't these people have normal names like John or James, he asked himself.

"No, do you think I would be called the Reason, if I got drunk?" Charlie remarked as he filled a cup up with tea for him.

Keith nearly laughed again, because he couldn't believe that he had managed to find an even more boring version of Charlie than the one he already knew back home. If this situation wasn't so strange and fucked up he might have laughed about it or maybe he would even have enjoyed this trip.

"So what's going on?" Keith asked as he took a sip of tea, which he nearly immediately spat back out. He had no idea what crazy shit he had taken in his life, but this was the most disgusting thing he had ever encountered. "And seriously what's wrong with this tea?"

"Oh it's a special blend, it's healthy and good for your digestion, but I am sure you're not here to talk about tea. So what did Persephone tell you?"

Keith sighed and pushed the poisonous yet heathy tea aside. He surely wouldn't drink that again. Once had been bad enough and he wasn't sure if he could ever chase this taste away. "Nothing much, beside that she wanted to collect my soul and that you would explain everything..."

"Oh my! That girl... Well that means I really have some explaining to do. I know you might have a lot of questions, but please don't interrupt me or this will take even longer and I fear we don't have much time." Keith just nodded, because again what other choices did he really have? And he surely could manage to be quiet for a minute if he finally got some answers. Slowly but surely he was getting really tired of this mystical, mythical shit.

Charlie took a deep breath. "I don't want to go into every detail either, but you should at least know that we have well a bit of a situation here. Due to some unfortunate events one of our leaders had to leave and now a fight has broken out for his position. Well now is not really the correct word, it's been around for 200 years at least, but the end is finally in view. The candidates are narrowed down to three: Gabriel, Raphael and Michael. With Raphael being the best choice, the other two... well let's just say they have very bloody views on how this should be managed."

Keith frowned, because in all honesty he had no idea what to do with this information or why this should interest him even. As far as he could see this fight or whatever it was, wasn't his business and he surely didn't want it to be his. He had his own problems without some supernatural fight added to the mix.

"Well sad to hear this for you, but what do I have to do with this? Or even Persy? And aren't these three guys angels? I don't get anything."

"Persephone works for Raphael. She's his second in command if you will and yes in your beliefs the three would be angels, but here they are just three noisy boys fighting to get a better position, which they still have to share with Osiris and Hades anyway. As for you, well they need a human," Charlie explained.

Keith furrowed his brows in confusion. He maybe had some more information, but it wasn't really helping him at all. "A human? And wait Hades that's the guy Persy mentioned! Shouldn't she be with him then?"

"Persephone is named after the legend, but she's not connected to it, even if I would bet Hades would like to have her on his side. Oh... just a friendly advice, I wouldn't mention Hades nor Osiris to her, especially not Osiris. She really can't stand him..." Charlie sighed. "But I shouldn't dwell on such old stories anyway... Well have you ever heard about Orpheus?"

Keith shook his head. "Let me guess, that's another guy out of some legend or something similar? Don't you people ever read something normal?"

Charlie sighed. "Orpheus was a fantastic musician, who could enchant everyone with his Lyre and with everyone I mean everyone. His love died, so he ventured down to the underworld to get her back."

"And what has this to do with me?" He asked, because in all honesty Keith really couldn't see what this had to do with him. He might be a musician too, but he surely hadn't come down here on his own free will.

"Well I need someone to venture down with me, a great musician."

Even though Keith knew that Persy could simply appear out of thin air, she had startled him and the worst thing was she perfectly knew what she had done and was clearly enjoying it. Her smile was as mocking as it was hypnotic.

"Oh Persephone, you look as lovely as you always have," Charlie greeted her and purred her a cup of tea as well. She smiled at him and sipped on it. Keith wondered how she could manage to drink that awful poison, but maybe she had lost the ability to taste when she became a devil or everyone down her liked this.

"And you look for once well dressed and young, cute even. Usually you're some old man..."She said to Charlie, who smiled like a child at Christmas, but who wouldn't like to be complimented by her? She probably really could get everyone to go to Hell with her and apparently not even reason stood a chance against her.

"I must admit I really start to like you and I'm glad I choose you for this," she added in Keith's direction.

"Ehh... thanks, but for what and why me?" He asked.

She smiled. "I told you, I like you and I can only visit people, who are close to dying."

Keith frowned. "Close to dying? I thought I was dead?"

"You're not now at least, but you would have been in a month. Overdose in a hotel room, definitely no pretty death..." She said shaking her head.

Keith rolled his eyes. "Great so why did you collect me now? And not in a month?"

"Because first I need you alive and second I thought you would maybe prefer to help me if I could offer you something in return."

"You want to make a deal? I'll help you and then what? I can live another month?"

"No, you can die of old age. Naturally only if you'll help me to get to the big boss," Persy explained with a big smile on her face and Keith stomach turned. This sounded good, but again could he really trust her?

"What does this deal include?"

"Nothing. Get me down to him and no matter what shit you'll do you won't die until you're at least 70. Suicide excluded, of course," she explained.

Keith bid his lip. This deal did indeed sound good, especially when he didn't really have anything to lose and still he had a really bad feeling about this. "Again why should I trust you?"

"Even though I made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate, I'm usually not a bad guy and what other choices do you really have? You can go back and die in a month or you help me and get a long life. It's really not so bad if you think about it."

She was of course right, and still his brain screamed at him to turn her offer down, but that wasn't the answer, which left his lips.

"So where do I sign up?"
