Daydream

It had been nearly three weeks already since my departure from the orphanage. And I wasn't sad at all. My uncle,Sam, was hardly around and he was always working or out. But that was perfectly okay with me. He actually had the guts to take me in, which is good enough.

With the money I saved since tutoring,I had saved about a good amount of money. Part of the money was given to my uncle each month(to help him pay taxes) and the rest was mine to keep. And the "rest of the money" quickly disappeared later on.

The usual thing that happend was that he would leave a twenty dollar bill on the counter and some cold leftovers in the fridge. I finally got enrolled in a school called Jefferson High.

There was a "fall break" at this time, and the break lasted for a month, so was basically free the whole entire thirty days. Sweet.

My breakfast ended up as something like a jar of Nutella with a few crackers. Notice, I said a "few" crackers, meaning two saltines and he rest of hazelnut spread was eaten by a spoon...with the help of my hands. Yeah, I needed to work on my eating habits.

I was in the middle of scourging down the jar when the doorbell rung. For a moment, I got a mini-heart attack until I came to my sense and wiped the hazel butter of my face.  Who would come here at ten in the morning anyways?

When I opened the front door, a familiar face came into view. "James?"I asked, cocking my head to the side for a better "confused" effect. "Emma?"he faked confusion. "James."I acknowledged. "Emma."he repeated. "James."I said again, shooting him daggars.

"Emma."he said again, giving me the same look I gave him. The whole thing was starting to turn into a stare-down.

"James!"I threatened. "Emma!"he mocked in the same tone. All of a sudden, this old lady started to wave her wooden walking cane in the air, and yelled "Crazy kids staring at each other for hours with big ol'eyes."

She glared at the both of us and put this really funny scowl on her face that looked like a monkey. "Stupid teenagers."the lady muttered. The grey haired women shook her head and started to walk slowly away.

When she was out of sight,we both bursted into laughter at the lady's reaction. "Haha! Did you-see-her-face?It-was-hilarious!" James said through chuckles. I couldn't talk cause I was still cracking up,so I just nodded my head in agreement.

It took about ten minutes for the both of us to calm down. We would stop laughing for a moment, look at each other, and then start laughing again.

"Okay, so why are you really here?"I finally asked.

"What? So now I can't visit my bestfriend now?" he mocked saddness.

But it wasn't a joke to me.  My face paled  and I stopped smiling, the silly grin on my face wiped away.I glanced down at the wooden floor in the house and when I stared back up at him.

He was expressionless and his light brown hair covered those ice blue eyes. Even without talking to him, I could tell he was deep in thought.

"James." I whispered, breaking the silence. The blue eyed boy in front of me raised his head and pierced those intense blue eyes into mine.

His expression was unreadable and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.What was that look plastered on his face?Pain?Saddness? I had no clue.

Stepping a little closer to me, he held my cheeks in his hands. My heart skipped a beat at the contact. His warmth spread through my cheeks and I suddenly felt safe and sound. We were only inches apart now.

James leaned in a little closer and I closed my eyes. Was he going to kiss me? Did he like me? My heartbeat raced and the butterflies in my stomach started to flutter like crazy.

I felt something soft and warm press against cheeks. Heat flooded my face and warmness spread through me. The touch disappeared as quickly as it came, and the coolness of the morning air came back.

I opened my eyes to find nobody there. I scanned the whole front yard, neighborhood, and nothing was all I found.

My fingers went to my cheeks as I stood leaning against the door, completely confused. Did James really just kiss me? Or was this just some daydream?

I frowned and put my hands in the pocket of my gray Hollister hoodie. My hands felt something slightly crumpled in my pockets and I took it out.

I unfolded the paper and say a note written in neat small cursive. "Meet me in the park near here at twelve. And get ready and everything.-James"

A smile made its way to my lips as I read the paper. He wanted to meet me at the park? But why? I decided to show up anyways. I was still kind of confused, but mostly happy with one thought in my mind.

He was definitely like the James I once knew.
