Half girl, half gun, where does one end and the other begin?

A girl is still a girl, even if her mother bore her with a weapon for a mouth, or maybe it was her father who put it there. A girl is still a girl, even as her teeth drip lead and her lips bleed red—from biting her tongue or saying too much, she can never tell. A girl is a girl because she can be nothing else.

Oh Mirae had a countenance that not even a mother could love and a lineage that bound her to cruelty long before she was born. Her resemblance to her father was both a curse and a prophecy, and while her mother turned away, he saw potential in her—potential to become the prodigy her brother could never be. Yet his love was a ruinous kind, sharpening her hands into firearms and teaching her to destroy before she could learn to build. And Mirae, ever the dutiful student, absorbed his lessons with precision, mastering the art of devastation until it became second nature.

But her education was no mere indulgence in savagery; it was survival, and so, with blood-slick hands and a conscience weighed by guilt, she built her existence around her brother's preservation. Year after year, she offered herself to the abyss so that he remained untouched, because innocence was an illusion she had abandoned long ago, trading it for the endless cycle of sacrifice and slaughter.

Who else would guard him, if not her? Their mother had turned her back, leaving them to claw their way through the rubble of a fractured home. Their father feasted on misery, and Mirae ensured it was hers he devoured. A sinner she was, and a sinner she would remain. Redemption was a fable for gentler souls, and she had never believed that salvation could ever be hers...until she met a man who offered her a chance to dismantle the very atrocity she helped maintain.

Half boy, half dog, where does one end and the other begin?

A dog is still a dog, even after his father has pulled out all his teeth. A dog is still a dog, even as he licks his bleeding gums and whimpers apologies to the very jaws that tear the fur from his flesh. A dog is a dog because he stays.

Oh Minhyuk had always been a disappointment—a frail echo of the long-desired son, a boy born too soon with a heart too weak to carry the weight of inherited ambition. As the eldest, he was a failure from his first breath, lacking the appetite for pain that fueled his family's machinations. Blood turned his stomach; violence chilled his veins, and this made him a wisp of a child not worth the notice.

His mother was powerless, though she tried her best to shield him from the worst of his father's wrath. Nonetheless, even she could not survive a house always on the brink of combustion, and when her spirit finally shattered, she fled, pleading for him to come with her. But he could not. He owed too much to his younger sister, who remained behind in the wreckage of their family, and so he stayed too, tethered by guilt and an unspoken promise to stand by her side.

But standing was not enough. Time and again, Minhyuk's cowardice betrayed him, leaving his sister to endure when he could not. He had always meant to be her protector, but instead, she had become his.

Regardless, the title of craven is not his forever, and when the only girl he has ever allowed past his barricades becomes ensnared in his family's macabre creation, he must find the courage to face the violence he has spent his whole life avoiding.

A/N: I was trying so hard not to start a fic for this series lol, but alas I have no impulse control and the attention span of a cheese cracker so here we are, I'm blaming it on all the Wi Hajoon edits on my tiktok fyp. Act 1 (Season 1) will explore Mirae and Junho's relationship since he has more screen time in it and is more pertinent to the plot. Act 2 (Season 2) will focus on Minhyuk and Semi's relationship. A lot of Semi's backstory is headcanon territory since we aren't told anything about why she's in the games or her family (I also made up a last name for her since we're never given one).

This fic is going to be 80% angst and yearning because those are my fav things to write haha, expect a very slow burn (the Oh siblings are traumatized af and don't let ppl in easily, Mirae especially). Fingers crossed the hyperfixation lasts long enough for me to actually finish this, it's reasonably short so hopefully I can make it lol.

As usual, don't be a ghost reader. I live for yalls comments/questions/concerns/reactions, even a keyboard smash is highly appreciated and encouraged!
