Of Devils and Vampires - 4/17/23
So I've been a bit MIA recently. There was family visiting and all the lead up to Easter, but I've also been working on a new project. I hope to share that project with you soon, but for now, we'll just leave it at that.
Anyway, as I try to get back into the swing of things, I find that I just can't seem to get back into the groove with Professor DeVille. Not that I don't want to finish the story, but I need to step back and reexamine it. As it was done for the Open Novella Contest, I charged in without much thought behind the storyline since there was a time limit. At this point, I have a general idea of where I'm going with it but zero idea of how to get there.
So I think instead of forcing the square peg into the round hole, it's best if I step back from it and regroup. This seems like an appropriate course of action since I already plan to return to another project this year that I surrendered to because I'd lost my way--I plan to rewrite Reverse Christmas for NaNoWriMo in November.
So yeah, ONC was fun and I hope to try it again, but I think bashing my head against a table to try to make things work in time for the deadline is just not worth the frustration.
However, this does not mean I will stop posting things until I work Professor DeVille out. I'm going back to plan A for what to do with my time after completing Delilah Cross and the Bone Chapel. Plan B had been to participate in the ONC if I felt compelled to. However, originally, I intended to finish The Vampire's Harvest. Does anyone remember that book? Can I get a show of hands?
I don't expect anyone to really remember this. It was/is an experiment that I was trying. It was a choose your own ending type deal and I got a little more than two thirds of it posted, but there's still one branch of the story left to post. I've technically written it but it was scripted for a gaming experience and not a novel. So there's a lot of editing that I need to do before posting, which is why it's not all up.
Anyway, I'll be working on getting that up in full and then, maybe by the time it's complete, I can resume/rewrite Professor DeVille.
So that's what's going on. Just changing course, I suppose, to give myself some creative breathing room to map out Professor DeVille. Good luck to everyone that is still in the race for the ONC! I hope to join you all again another year :)
