Hard Truths - 10/29/24
Hi all, it's been 8 months since I lasted posted on here. A lot has happened and there's been a lot of hard truths that I've needed to accept. So let's start with those!
So, I spend far too much time reflecting on the days where I could crank out a chapter a day and still have time to do a lot of other things. However, I've had to do some serious reflection about not what the past looked like but what life currently looks like. There's always a new normal and it is a futile effort to keep holding onto a past normal.
Change sucks and it's scary, but you gotta keep pushing on.
So yeah, the me that could knock out a bunch of work was doing it on her own time with a child that was in school but too young for much else. The current me is contracted to meet a certain word count each month and has a 3rd grader who has extracurricular activities, social events, and all that jazz. Plus, between me and my husband, I handle pretty much all of the management of our household needs (trust me he lifts his weight, it just makes the most sense for me to handle these things).
So long story short, life looks different and my work life needs to reflect that.
So what does that mean?
It means that right now, I'm dedicated to Treasured by the Dragon. I'm happy about this! It's opened up a lot of opportunities and to be frank, it makes me money. I'm fortunate that my husband makes what he does so we can survive as a one income household, but contributing financially with my writing means we can be more comfortable and we could also afford services (lawn, cleaning, renovations, etc) that will free up more of my time so I can, in turn, write more.
Now Treasured season 2 is ending next Tuesday, however, I'm already working on season 3 (I do not know when that will release, but know that it is in the works!) Since the series is continuing with more seasons, that means that I simply don't have time for other projects at the moment. Which sadly translates to the Delilah Cross series going on hiatus...
I love Delilah and Whisper Valley. I have every intention to finish her series as well as do the anthology delving into other citizens' lives and then a new Whisper Valley series after that. However, it just isn't happening in the foreseeable future.
Now I could try to squeeze it into pockets of free time, but I don't want to do a half-assed job with Delilah's story. I love her and she deserves better. I fully understand readers rage quitting the series because of the hiatus. I hope one day you might come back and find the ending you've been waiting for. But I get it. Waiting is a pain in the ass with incomplete stories.
Okay, so all of that is kind of a big bummer, let's move on to happier things!
So in case you missed it, Treasured by the Dragon got shortlisted for the Wattys! I have no expectations of winning and from the get-go I was simply hoping for the shortlist so mission accomplished!

Speaking of competitions, I am so over the moon excited about the Project Portal Contest that is currently in the voting stage! If you're unfamiliar, the contest was for webcomic artists to adapt one of five selected Wattpad Originals into a webcomic and Treasured by the Dragon was one of the choices. What's even more exciting is that there are a lot of submissions for Treasured!

Finally, I've also hit a big milestone and I'm really close to another!
Not too long ago, Treasured by the Dragon hit 500k reads!
Here's a look back at little old 2017 me that was over the moon for 1k reads >> https://www.wattpad.com/502443024-sylvia%27s-soliloquies-1k-views-12-2-17
If only 2017 me could see me now!
The next milestone on the horizon is getting up to 2k followers. Fingers crossed we can get there by the end of the year!
And I think that's it for now. I feel bad that I haven't been as active on here outside of posting chapters. Perhaps I'll get my shit together someday, but for now, this is what life is and I need to make the most of what I have.
