[Y/n pov]

It's been a few hours since I had to save Luz from yet another thing that was capable of killing her, and it was only the second day since we turned up here on the isles. It's night time now and I decided to sit on the roof to see the starry sky. It was nice, just me, my thoughts, and the occasional sound from Hooty. Sure I wasn't exactly sure what he was, or if he was even a guy. I mean he's a door ... or was he just the noodle thing that comes from the door? I don't know anymore honestly, I tried asking but he wouldn't answer me properly.

Eda: What are you doing out here at this hour kid?

I heard Eda ask as I looked back to see her exiting through the same window I came out here from.

Y/n: Huh? Oh hey Eda, I couldn't sleep and just thought I could get some fresh air to think, maybe clear my head a bit. I mean in the last two days that Luz and I have been here, she's led a riot, and gone on an adventure that was a trap put on by some octopus demon thing. While I have fought killer plants, monsters, a crazy warden, and now an octopus that used puppets. Honestly I don't know what else we will encounter.

Eda: ... You sound on edge, mind if I sit with ya?

Eda said sitting beside me and made a circle with her finger, before handing me a small box of kid safe apple blood, while she kept her mug of adult only apple blood.

Y/n: Thanks, but yeah I guess I am. It's just I worry about her, she's kinda like the only family I have left besides her mom. I just ... I don't want to lose her like ...

Eda: Like them?

Eda asks pulling a picture from her hair, one that I kept on me almost all the time. A picture of my mom and dad, the day we went out into the forest and met a kind wolf, or at least it was kind after my mom intervened. I quickly snatched the picture from her.

Eda: Woah! Easy kid, I didn't mean anything by it. I found it in the kitchen on the floor. ... Look kid, I know what it means to care about your family, and the fear of losing them. I may not have been the best daughter, heck I was probably the worst in my parents eyes!

Eda said as she let out a slight snort of a laugh, obviously trying to lighten the mood. I would be lying if I said I didn't chuckle a little too.

Eda: But I know how it feels to not want to lose them. I may not know what hurt you, why they're not around anymore, or why you say Luz is your only family, but just know you aren't alone. If you need to talk, I'm sure either me or Hooty will listen. Well more me than Hooty because he will just talk your ear off.

[3rd pov]

Y/n didn't say anything, it took a moment before he felt himself starting to cry and hug Eda. She was taken back by this as her eyes went wide in shock.

Eda: Woah okay was not expecting that.

Y/n: Thank you.

Eda looked down at Y/n with a confused and slightly shocked expression on her face.

Eda: Huh? For what?

Y/n: For returning this to me, for possibly understanding. Maybe even for being there to help me and Luz on top of giving a place to stay while here in your world, I know no one else would have done this for us.

Y/n just continued to hug Eda like she would fade away. Eda was completely confused about what was going on, but soon embraced the hug.

Eda: You know kid, you're really strange. You're strong physically, but you're weak at heart. You put up such a sturdy front, but you do it for others not for yourself.

Eda said as they broke the hug. Y/n smiles and wipes his tears.

Eda: Maybe you should just be you, instead of trying to be someone that everyone else thinks you should be. In a way you're like the isles, scary at a distance but when you look pass everything, there's something brighter just waiting to be seen. Something that is as wild and free as magic is, just locked away behind a mask.

Y/n chuckles a bit and smiled a bit more too. Eda was making a great point, he had put on an act for so long he basically forgot who he was, what it felt to live a little.

Y/n: Hehe you sound just like my mom. She was just like you in a way. Always a troublemaker, thought it was okay to cause chaos and break the rules, but knew when to be in charge. My dad always told me about how much of an anarchist she was in terms of how she acted back in school. She didn't have grey hair, magic or a golden fang, but honestly I think she would enjoy hanging out with you.

Eda smiles as she hears about his mom, sorta having hope for another person who could help her cause some chaos here on the isles. She even had a bit of respect for the woman who raised this possible troublemaker.

Eda: Well I'm sure one day I'll meet her. Heck maybe you can introduce me to her.

Eda said as she elbowed Y/n. His expression faltered a little but he held that smile on his face. Eda noticed this but chose not to push anymore.

Y/n: Sure, I'll introduce you to her one day. I'm sure she would love to meet you.

Eda: "Just what happened to you kid?"

The two sat on the roof drinking their apple blood for the rest of the night, just talking away and enjoying the moment, without the two noticing a certain young apprentice watching them. This went on for an hour or two, until Y/n fell asleep, leaning on Eda. Eda just smiled and picked him up before jumping off the roof onto a magic platform. She then brought him inside before putting him to bed on the couch. She put a blanket on him and messed up his hair before turning out the lights by using magic.

Eda: Sweet dreams kid. You deserve a few, if not more than that.

With that she goes back upstairs to her room, and climbs into her bed before drifting off to sleep. Back with Y/n, he for once actually had a good dream, not a nightmare, not the fog, not even the one he had the night before, but a nice dream that actually made him smile as he slept.
