Chapter 24: Going Still
Rose heard the sound of collapsing rubble and hurried towards the cave remains. Blizzard was buried beneath the rock. She struggled to pull the rocks off him. Oak ran to her side and tugged as well, he couldn't pull either.
"ROSE!" Bramble yelled. "GET AWAY FROM THERE!" Rose turned around.
"But father, he's trapped..." She insisted, tugging harder. The bobcat hybrid looked worried.
"It could collapse and hurt you!" He retorted. Rose lowered her ears.
"You worry too much!" She hissed, not looking at her father any longer. Bramble's ears drooped and he looked sad.
"Fine." He murmured, turning around and walking off. Oak looked smug as Koi hurried over and did something that amazed both Rose and Oak, he lifted the rubble up and threw it several feet away. A distant crash was heard and the large Lizolf dusted his big paws off. He turned his massive head to look down at Blizzard. The lizard's legs were scratched and beaten up pretty badly and he wasn't awake, mostly likely unconscious. Koi looked grim.
"He is paralyzed in the legs." He murmured. Rose gasped and looked at the lizard's legs.
"He won't be able to walk anymore unless he has a potion to cure paralysis. Only the goddess herself would know where we'd find that, after all it's not like Blizzard can tell us." Koi rumbled. Oak looked like he realized the seriousness of the situation and lowered his ears thoughtfully, he looked grim as well. There was a hissing sound and Rose turned to see Koi pouring the liquid fire on Blizzard's legs, his frosty scales instantly fought back but the liquid started melting the pale blue scales into black gunk. Oak tackled Koi and made the Lizolf drop the liquid fire, the glass exploded as it hit the ground and the bright orange liquid sizzled.
"ARE YOU MAD!? WHY ARE YOU MELTING BLIZZARD'S LEGS YOU MAD FUR STACK!?" The bobcat snarled. Koi writhed in response and unsheathed his large claws.
"There is no way to help his legs! It's better than him having useless limbs!" The Lizolf hissed, clawing at Oak. Bramble ran in and separated the two males, pushing them both far away from each other.
"You both need to stop!" The he growled, glaring at the two. "You're behaving like kits!" Oak glared at the hybrid but said nothing. Meanwhile, Petunia was shivering and her fur was fluffed up. She looked terrified. Rose came over and comforted her sister, still watching males. Bramble huffed and Koi wouldn't stop glaring at Oak. The Lizolf pointed at the bobcat.
"That one is a loose cannon." He growled, flexing his bulging muscles. The bobcat twitched his stubby tail angrily.
"Maybe I am." He retorted. "At least I'm not a freak of nature." Koi growled at this insult and narrowed his purple eyes.
"You're pushing it bobcat." He growled. Oak flexed his claws and grabbed his bow.
"It's my fault that you're here, and I'm going to be the one to get rid of you." Oak challenged, loading a lightning arrow into his bow. Koi lowered his gaze to stare at the loaded bow, he chuckled softly.
"So, you know my kind's weakness." He said, lashing his thin tail. The bobcat nodded and Bramble's fur bristled, Petunia cried. The hybrid knocked the bow out of Oak's paws, it clattered as it hit the ground and the arrow fell out. He snarled and turned on Bramble.
"I'm trying to save you!" Oak snarled.
Or impress me. Rose thought.
"How!? You're just making things worse! Koi is on our side no matter what choices he makes!" He retorted. Koi nodded and sheathed his claws.
"I wish not to hurt anyone." The Lizolf rumbled. "I was trying to help."
"But you DIDN'T." Oak growled, picking up his bow and strapping it to his back. He picked up the lighting arrow and put it back in his quiver. Oak picked up the broken glass and threw it in the direction Koi threw the rubble, it didn't go as far and smashed on the ground. He grumbled and walked off.
"Where are you going?" Rose asked. Oak turned around.
"Obviously no one wants me here so, I'm leaving." He growled. The pink tabby ran up to him. Oak turned around.
"Where exactly are you going?" She asked.
"I'm going where I'm wanted, Woodburrow Village." He answered, narrowing his amber eyes.
"But you are needed here! We need to rescue Forest!" Rose insisted.
"You can rescue her without me. All I do is cause problems." Oak growled. She turned to make sure no one was looking and kissed him lightly on the forehead.
"I believe in you." Rose meowed. His fur stood on end and his eyes widened.
"You k...kissed me." Oak meowed.
And don't announce it to the whole village either. She thought.
"Yes, I did." Rose mewed. He kissed back, though it wasn't on the forehead, it was on the lips. She widened her eyes and bristled her fur as well. Rose gently pushed him, Oak stumbled backwards.
"Are you crazy!? If Bramble saw that, you'd be dead!" She whispered loudly. He shook his head.
"S...sorry." Oak muttered. "Fine, I'll stay-" he didn't get to finish because Rose interrupted him.
"That's good." She meowed.
"On one condition." Oak continued. "I have to stay as far away from Koi as possible and he shall do the same." Rose nodded.
"Deal." She said, shaking his paw. Rose walked back to the others and so did Oak.
I hope no one saw that....
