Chapter 10

It's finally time!

Suguha eagerly paced her bedroom as she waited.

It was finally Friday night.

She had thoroughly cleaned the area and made it neater for when Kazuto arrived. Also, she had made sure to wash herself up thoroughly and used her nice pajamas.

She couldn't remember how many years it's been ever since he last came to her room.

And now we'll be able to spend the whole night together!

She could hardly restrain her excitement in spite of the serious conversation ahead.

"Kazuto~♪, Kazuto~♪," she sang her dear brother's name.

Midnight approached at last.

She sat at her bed for some time.

Slowly, her mood became less jubilant.

"You're not coming," she gathered in disappointment, "are you?"

She grumbled as she fell back into her bed.

"...Kazuto..." she sighed his name, this time more unhappily. But still, there was that same sense of love as she thought of him.

"Idiot." But she wasn't talking about him. Well, not just him.

Thinking about the circumstances that led up to this moment, she realized how selfish she was being - Using Kazuto's trauma to get closer to him. How awful can I be?

Looking at the clock, it was now a few minutes past 1AM.

"Maybe he just fell asleep..." she considered. Well if he is... he wouldn't notice me walking in...

Quietly, she grabbed her softer pillow and held it to her chest. Then she threw her blanket over her shoulder.

With the grace of a cat, she stealthily walked through the hallway and went to his room.

His door was closed again, so she soundlessly opened it enough to see him.

This time, she saw him laying on his bed with one arm draped across his forehead and the other on his belly.

He wasn't moving so he may have been asleep.

But instinctually, she knew he wasn't.

Without a sound, she crept towards him.

Somehow he didn't notice.

Clearly he had an interesting ceiling.

She was right next to his bed...

Then she raised her pillow, and slammed it into his stomach.

"Ow!" he overreacted as he shot up, "Sugu?! What the hell?!"

She threw her blanket over his head and whacked him again, this time on his sheet-covered face.

"That's what I should be saying! You were supposed to come to my room!"

He pulled the sheet off his head and armed himself with his own pillow.

For such a frail boy he was surprisingly fast and whacked her hip with his soft weapon.

Standing firm, she barely stumbled as she stood over him.

Quickly, she dropped her pillow and pushed his down.

Leaning towards him, she looked him in the eyes.

Grey meeting grey, they communicated silently before devolving into verbal communication.

"I already told you!" he stopped short of shouting. "I don't want to bring you into my problems!"

"And I told you! That I'll always be there to listen to you!" she countered.

He glared at her and growled. He opened his mouth to speak, but she cut him off.

"I'm sorry, I realize what I'm doing may be wrong, and that I should wait for you to talk to me naturally, but I don't care if you hate me!" That was a complete lie. "You need to talk about what happened if you want to save yourself from yourself!"

Staring at each other with wide eyes, they were both taken aback by her outburst.

After that stunt he did with the «NerveGear», there was no way that she could leave him alone anymore. Even if she was being harsh, this wasn't something she could simply let go.

Collecting herself, she went on. "I'll always be here, my dear Kazuto," she repeated what she said last week. "No matter what you say. No matter what you may have done."

Kazuto looked conflicted. As if he wanted to tell her, but also that he just wanted to get away and wallow in his pain.

After a full minute of confliction, he looked to her and let out a huge sigh.

"Okay. You win," he conceded as he shuffled to the side. "Please sit down, Sugu," he patted the area next to him.

She grabbed her pillow and placed it on her lap as she sat next to him, barely leaving an inch of space between them.

They sat there in silence for what felt like a lifetime before he finally started to speak.

***

Originally there was no pillow fight. Suguha was just supposed to walk in and ask Kazuto why he didn't come. But as I was writing it, that just popped in my head and it felt right :). Plus, I wanted to write this differently and make her actions more «Suguha-like» than how I'd imagine it would go for most of the other girls. ...Although I could see Yuuki whacking him for breaking a promise to her... I'll keep that in mind for Zekken and The Moonlit Knight. (Kirito is never safe in my stories) ;)
