Epilogue

Veira Point of View

Ten years later

"- Wrong to teach that." Can age make a man nag a lot?

Elder Cazacu has become so damn noisy in the recent years. He seriously takes every small thing under a magnifying glass.

He never leaves a chance to lecture me.

Lecture me on what? How to raise my own child! Does that make sense?

"Sometimes I wonder if I give in to you easily." I mumbled loud enough to reach his old years.

He is forty three this year and he has become more adult-like than before. It feels like he is raising two kids – nay, three if you count Dea in – it feels like he is raising three kids.

"Easily? Love, we had our child six years after you accepted my proposal. You took six long years to get familiarize with the concept of being a part of family; my family. Only four and half year old and our daughter is already fully fledged swindler." There he goes nagging again.

Our daughter, Ilinca Oana Lupus Cazacu, is our only child we had four and half years ago. I agree, I did take my sweet time in building up proper relationship with Elder Cazacu but that was how it should be.

You cannot expect me to get adapted with a mate and family right away. A relationship without careful foundation is prone to fall with light wind.

In such case, we continued to live together, learnt more about each other; just about do everything that a normal dating couple would do.

We made sure we entered into different phases of relationship slowly and gradually. After five years, I finally marked him and marked me.

He marked me by giving me a tattoo on my neck, same as his!

Sometime he is so childish.

Right, he still did not give the answer to whom he loves more, I or Dea.

"I didn't teach her. She is smart because she is your daughter." I and Ilinca stood before his imposing figure with our hands folded politely and our heads dropped down.

I feel like I share a father with my daughter!

'That sounds gross.' And she is here.

"Yes Papa, I'm your daughter and smart." Well done, sweetheart; I sneakily passed her a wink which she returned back with a smile.

"You should blame yourself for being so smart and sneaky."

"Yes papa, you teach me sneaky."

"Enough both of you." His intimidating authoritative voice shook both my daughter and me.

The past years has brought one big change in me, I actually got timid in front of Cazacu. He is like the elder of the family who set the rules and treats everyone as kids who should follow the rules by book.

"Ilinca, dear," He knelt down before our daughter and sighed before passing a kind smile to her. "It's wrong of you to trick people. It will make you a bad person."

"But Mama Dea said as long as I'm beautiful, whatever I do is forgiven by nature." Of course, as a mother and a wolf who is obsessed with looks, Dea is teaching just what she knows.

'Hey, I didn't mean in that way. I said whatever you do is beautiful because you are beautiful just like me.'

Ah, you can't expect a four year old to have a clear perception of things. She is still a little thing.

"If possible, don't say anything like that to our daughter, Dea. God save me, what am I going to do with you three?" I can feel it. He is close to bang his head to the nearest wall.

I think, as we spent time with Cazacu, I and Dea got much naughtier and childlike as if we are reliving our childhood in an adult body.

"I will become a doctor like papa." Suddenly Ilinca announced making me feel betrayed.

"Good." He said patting the little girl's head affectionately.

"And also become a great trickster like Mama. A doctor in the daylight and a tricky girl in the nightfall." Spoken like my daughter.

The little girl has become poetic recently. Everything she says is like reading an old literature books,

"No – Ilinca, dear –" Elder Cazacu stammered, trying to gather his thoughts straight before saying it out loud. He blew out air from his mouth, a signal that shows he is beyond frustrated.

"This is all because of you." He pointed his conceited finger to me while putting the whole thing on my head.

"How is it my fault? She took after both of us. If she wants to become a doctor like you, then it is a proud moment for you but if she wants to do her part to the society as a true citizen like me, then she is a sinner? What did she even do to get such a lecture from you? She tricked back the boy who was bullying her and she did that after putting up with it for several days." I argued. I don't care about the consequences now.

He is blaming me and I will not take the whole credit.

"The boy, as you dearly call, was his kindergarten teacher and by bullying you mean; the teacher is doing his job in teaching our daughter how to write and read." His poked his finger again and again on my forehead as he enunciated each and every word.

"He is teaching what I already know, Papa. It is boring and annoying." The tall man who is my mate, looked down at our daughter with a fierce glare.

"What did I tell you about speaking out of your turn?" He asked firmly but not as firmly as he always talk to me.

I can sense a planet of gentleness for his daughter in that firm tone of his.

"Kids shouldn't take part in adults chat unless asked for." The little girl pouted as she said in a small voice.

"Remember that." He advised her softly before turning to me with eyes that only knows how to throw shards of glass pieces lit with fire at me.

He isn't the sweet guy-next-door mate I knew. He has changed into a military commander devil after we had our daughter.

"But Papa, V is not an adult then why can she talk?" The moment when our daughter addressed me as not mamma but V, he understood everything.

He understood both the mother and daughter in this together and we are partners in crime. Only when I'm being a best friend to our daughter does she call me V, otherwise she always Mamma me.

"Right. Your Mamma is an overgrown child in this house. Your Mamma Dea is an overgrown lunatic wolf and I – "

"Just an overgrown man. Nothing special." I finished it for him with a smile and heart a small giggle from our little daughter.

One sharp gaze, one firm line of his mouth, one crease on his forehead; they are enough to tell me that he is beyond angry now. She is fuming like a kettle on the stove.

"Aiyah, Elder Cazacu," I held the sleeves of his shirt and pulled it side to side. Ilinca taught me this trick to pacify his anger and it always worked for her.

So why not I try it!

"Sweetheart, go do your homework while I work on your papa." I smiled sweetly at her and rolled my eyes at her, gesturing her to run for her life.

She understood me and immediately implemented on it.

"Not so soon, dear." Elder Cazacu stopped the fleeing child by holding the top of her dress with another hand that is free.

"Complete your homework and start reciting our family rules loudly for ten times. Don't worry, your Mamma will accompany you in the punishment." With a pout, she ran off to complete her work, leaving a, innocent wolf alone with the tiger.

"You are taking this too seriously, you know. She is just mischievous, not rude. She knows her manners. With us here, she will not cross her line, mate." I tried to reason out.

It is true that our daughter is just being naughty and she is by no means rude to anyone. She learnt from the best. Her father personally sees to it that she is growing up into a fine young girl.

"This might go overboard in future."

"She also has my genes in her, Cazacu. Did I ever cross my line when being playful? She drenched the teacher in paints, stuck features on him, drew on his face and broke his glasses because he was demeaning another child by comparing that child's intelligence with Ilinca's. Our daughter didn't like how another student was humiliated just because she is a little smarter than others."

"I know that but I wished she did something more proper. My problem is not with her motive but the manner she opted." Come on, I see the glint of pride in his eyes but being a hard to handle man.

"Why should she put a façade of an angel when her horns are visible on head?" I don't think what Ilinca did is wrong.

It wasn't the first time that teacher demeaned kids and compared them with each other. Who, in their right mind, would expect a four year kid to be as intelligent as a scientist in NASA?

"World we are living in is not a paradise, Elder Cazacu. More than needed proper people will be taken advantage of. Teach her where to stop and when to concede and she will be fine." I said softly as I shook his hand by his sleeve.

Cazacu looked me from head to toe, analyzed me and what I said before huffing out in anger.

"You are still not off the hook. You are her mother and she thinks you both share the same age group. Sometimes I think Dea is more like a mother than you are. You behave like a child who is growing up with our daughter."

'I disagree. I'm younger to Veira. I had to threaten our daughter to call me Mamma so not to get in trouble with you. Otherwise, I and Ilinca are closer than she is with Veira.'

"She is telling the truth." I stood as the witness.

Cazacu ran a hand through his hair nearly plucking a bunch out of his head.

"That reminds me; Dea, don't teach our daughter about makeup and cosmetics stuff. She is naturally beautiful and she very young to have knowledge about those things. Don't make her stick fake eyelashes to your wolf eyes. Stop telling her to maintain the baby fat on her cheeks to attract cute guys in future. My daughter is not seeing any boy until she meets her mate. Heck, she will not be with him until she completes her education."

'Practice makes werewolves experienced. Life is a brush; let her paint herself with her own hands.'

"I can't with you both. Nay, I can't with you three." He went to kitchen and got himself a bottle of cold water; drinking half and pouring the other half on his head.

"No makeup, no spa to Dea for a year as punishment. And Veira, you, you are grounded with no internet access for three months. You will do only office work and help our daughter with her school work. Every night, recite our family rules loudly for six months until they get instilled in yours, Dea's and Ilinca's head."

'That's not fair. The cosmetic industry plummets if I don't use their products. Why take your anger on thousands of employees' livelihood?'

"Why will I not get internet access? By the way, what will you do when I teach our daughter?" I asked feeling offended.

"You help her in studies while I teach her etiquettes. I can't put my hopes on you or Dea when it comes to teaching manners to our little girl." Why not!

I'm always the most mannered person.

I even sweat with manners.

'I once saw you pooping manners. What etiquettes did you eat that day?'

Dea, you lousy lunatic wolf!

"Then you should share my punishment too. Who told you to make such rules?" I tried to argue but I know I'm on the losing end.

His words are law in the family. How the hell did the sweet guy turned to be this way?

"If you want to, then fine. Furthermore, I'm the leader of our pack and what I say, goes." Cazacu said and waited for a minute to hear my remark; when he heard none, he saw how I'm grumbling and hugged me tightly.

He kissed my hair lightly and swayed me in his arms as he patted my head gently. We were silent, just enjoying each other's warmth.

'I love being in your arms, mate. If you ask me with a hug, I can even stop giving purple highlights to our daughter's long hair.'

Stupid wolf!

"You are spoiling our daughter's hair with chemicals?" He asked as he moved out of the hug.

"Mamma, Mamma, I finally cracked the password to open Papa's laptop. I deleted the CCTV video from when we filled Papa's knickers with earthworms." Ilinca, my sweetheart! Your father is still here.

Huh! I'm so proud of my little daughter. Who told fathers and daughters are one team? Cazacu is surely protective of our daughter but I and my little girl share a unique bond.

Taking one more step away from me, Cazacu looked speechless as one can ever muster up. He looked at me with tons of disbelief pouring out of his face.

"You are teaching our little daughter how to hack? No, it was you two who filled those slimy things in my panties?" And with that, he walked off to our bedroom with our daughter in his arms to give yet another long lecture for the night.

Just like that, I became a overgrown child from a matured swindler who swindled her own mate with his company, money and life.
