Chapter 20
Veira Point of View
"Hah! Seeing you and your King I suddenly remember a phrase I read a long time ago. 'Thief calling others thief'." The mocking snort was just the right ingredient to rile him up even more.
I might be a rogue and an inferior in their dirty perception but I'm a person who grew up to be what I am alone. If I were to die, then I'm taking down every one of those dirty paws.
"Careful there, rogue." His steps did falter with my words and he indeed got stunned when I showed him the mirror but being a tartuffe he is, he still couldn't get the depth of my words.
"Go ahead and kill me. Rogues are evil, harmful wolves that nice and good wolves like yourself should end them and uphold justice for the whole werewolf community blah blah blah! But don't forget the King of all werewolves is a part rogue too. He shall be the last in line to be slaughtered by you all."
Oh yes, I will take down each one of them with me to hell!
If they thought I'm weak or a kind lady, then they doesn't know what kind of stuff I went through to become the way I am.
"How dare you little rogue to talk nonsense about His Majesty? You are calling for an early death." No matter how well you grind your teeth Fuller, I decided to burn you with me if I have to.
"Don't tell me you don't know that the King's grandmother was a rogue who never was an official pack member until she died at the age of seventy four. She chose to be a fulltime rogue and your Majesty has her blood running through his veins. She was a rogue yet she ruled the werewolf kingdom as a queen for several years. She really inspires me."
"That was three centuries ago and she was an excellent queen who pushed the greatness of our community to next level." The hold on his knife loosened as he retreated back a step. That got me laughing out loud.
Christopher Fuller is sure full of nonsense!
This man deserves an award for having such impressive double standards. One cannot be taught or learn such things. It should come from heart by birth.
"Fuller oh Fuller, do you think people believe it? Like you said it was three centuries ago. Who would know what kind of a rogue she is and what kind of a rogue the King is?" I gave him a lopsided smile.
"Careful, Fuller! What if our people think union of northern plains is planning a treachery to usurp the throne? Using rogues as your shield, you can easily execute the current king. Not a bad plan, not a bad plan." I mumbled in a whispered tone as I leaned forward close to the great Christopher Fuller.
Fuller went quite; sure he was having a private talk with his wolf or mind linking with other members.
'Do you think it will work?'
'No. But it will buy us more time. After what I reminded him about, they will think ten times before approaching us but it will not ensure our safety completely.'
'Your brain works better when we are about to die. Once we handle this problem, I'm going to have a salt bath to wash off Fuller's stench. He stinks more than evil rogues.'
That I agree!
Alright, if we get out of this problem permanently, then I'll allow my wolf to take a swim in the salts she wanted to.
'So this was what you were doing in the wolfbook the whole time. You were inciting a discussion about a possible treason the northern plains are doing under the name of rogues. That was terrific. I'm not ashamed to be your wolf when you do things like this.'
'No matter how royal the man who calls himself the King is, if he is being unjust sitting on that throne, he will have to fall prey for his own ploy.'
'Indeed. Not bad my human, you made me stand on my limbs with pride. I know they cannot track the source of the anonyms username you were using. After all you were the one who created all those websites and platforms.'
'Yes, but that doesn't mean we are off the hook. These people are pretty shameless and tricky. They can easily come up with enough reasons to convince the kingdom about Majesty's origin. For time being we will be safe though.'
By the looks of it, Fuller is having a heated discussion with the other members. His face is scrunched into an ugly frown and his fist is showing how helpless he is right now.
Good! His vulnerability is my life saving elixir.
'You better take me out of here quickly. We might be good at enduring silver; at least better than others but the remittance of silver on our neck is still making me irritated.'
'Right.'
"One might think you are your heart swoon for us rogues seeing your attention towards us. I'm flattered." I broke him out of his mind link.
It's time I get back and concoct something else to put an end to this.
"You are one cunning she wolf. I will not stop here. We will come back for you soon and the next time you see me, I will be the last you see in this life." His threat is as serious he is as a person.
He meant every word he said and much more but I'm not their regular wolf. I was born a lonely wolf but I will not die as one.
I will not have my end without going down the history and showing these worthless wolves their place.
"Suit yourself, sire. But next time you come for me, come with a good reason. I won't sit quite and let you all trample over me just because you have a pack of fools folk dancing with you." I responded his threat with my own with a smile.
These past days I was indeed much tensed but today's events did give me a good understanding about the rogue situation and the way I could handle the union in future.
I gave him an all over once before sashaying from there. "Ah, Christopher! I almost forgot to tell you. Before being so obsessed with proving all the rogues wrong, you might want to dig your family history first. Not the adopted one but the biological one. Surprising facts may come out to bite you. Happy digging."
I left the stunned Fuller back and walked out in style. I'm hurting a little but compared to how I was able to stall my death, I'm really proud of myself.
Shifting into my wolf, I rushed through the calming forest feeling the sweet breeze healing all the burden I had on my heart these past few days.
A good run is just the way to unburden oneself.
Frankly speaking, I didn't know my trick would work on Fuller. I was anxious to the moment Fuller took a step back at me. The moment his hold on the knife loosened was when I understood my tactic actually worked.
I have a secret database of the whole werewolf history and the events of most of the packs and families. Growing up alone, I wasn't just swindling people but I also started to gather all the information from here and there into my own personal database.
Far too early I realized that the community I was born in is not safe for loners like me. They are treated as evil with no reason and these packs don't even dare take in an infant as a pack member with their low humility.
That was when I started to learn more about my kind and collect data on them. I knew I would get in trouble frequently so I gathered the info to use as my leverage.
But that only works when they attack me face to face. If they attempt to stab me from behind, then I can't be helped.
'Did the Northern plains really fabricate the rogue attack?'
'No the attack happened and they are victims of it.' I said as Dea slowed down. 'But it wasn't the rogues that did it. Not willingly at least.'
They might be fools to see it but I'm not. I'm a person who get even get the confidential from the palace. I will not fall for this petty thing.
'Wait, you mean to say the King is behind it?'
'He is.'
'But why? Doesn't he know he will bring it upon himself if he use rogues against packs to control them?'
'He doesn't know that there is someone else who knows the secret of his bloodline. Use rogue attacks to eliminate rogues by the hands of the packs all the while getting control over the Elders who think he is not very suitable for the throne. He worked hard to hit several birds with one stone; only that one of the birds knows more about him than he knows himself.'
'But my worry is about those who have nothing to fear or hide. They can be real problem for us in future. I still don't know what to do with them.'
I wish I can have a normal talk with them without being dead in their hands.
But can they understand a simple reason? Do the elders of main council understand the life of harmless rogues like me?
The danger is still as high as ever. Will it ever come to an end?
