Chapter 2
Yejide Moore's POV.
^^ Yejide's outfit.
"Excuse me? Do you know where the books on supernatural philosophy are?" A voice asks.
I look up from my papers, looking at the person in front of me.
My jaw nearly drops.
^^ Ezra Foster.
About 6'5, towering over me and his skin is beautifully dark.
His broad shoulders almost obscure my view from where I'm standing, his voice is low and deep.
And he seems familiar.
"Are you done ogling me?" He asks, his voice cold.
My eyes widen and I look away.
I quietly move around the desk and move to the stack of shelves nearer the back.
I'm on the night shift at the library, watching over students and other people as they study and keeping teenagers from being caught alone in the back room.
Or the bathrooms.
Or in the archives.
I look through the books and point to the top shelf.
"They should be on the top shelf" I say monotonously.
He nods and looks through.
I turn on my heel and start to walk away, avoiding eye contact.
He grabs my arm, his vice-like grip clasped around my wrist.
I turn to face him, in shock.
What the fu- -
"Which one do you recommend?" He asks me.
Unhand me!
I shrug.
"You look like you can handle it" I say, raising an eyebrow at him.
His eyes skim me up and down, then he gives me a small chuckle, letting go of my arm.
"I deserved that" he shrugs, letting go of me.
Good riddance.
I brush myself off and walk back to my desk and sit at it.
I get back to work and put my glasses back on and go through the books, stamping them and putting them to one side.
A couple of minutes later, a loud thud hits my desk, making me start.
I look up abruptly and I nearly roll my eyes.
"Yes? I ask, almost agitatedly.
"I'd like to borrow these" he says, a large hand on top of the stack of books.
"Igh, do you got a library card?" I ask, opening the first book up.
He places it on the table and gives it to me.
His fingers brush mine and I ignore the jolt of electricity that shoots up my arm.
These books are huge!
And he's carrying 4?!
I have to use a whole cart to move this many at a time.
I finish signing out the books and push them towards him.
"Here you go" I tell him.
Just as he collects them, Hai walks into the library, making beeline for my desk, a huge grin on his face.
"Hello, mortal" he says kissing my forehead.
"Fish boy" I respond, reaching up and fluffing his hair.
I feel eyes on me and I turn towards the source.
It's the handsome but rude stranger from earlier.
His face is expressionless but I can see that he looks annoyed.
Get out of my face.
And then I look into his eyes.
His pupils, they're...
Red!
He must be a vampire!
'Vampire's eyes only turn that shade of red when extremely angry... or turned on'~ Supernatural sciences- Kane Vasquez.
I'm going to take the former.
But I don't know him.
So I don't care.
My heart skips wildly as he grits his teeth slightly, baring some extremely sharp fangs.
Hai doesn't seem to notice, tugging on my arm to gain my attention.
I look at my friend and listen to what he is saying, but by the time I look back, the stranger is gone.
I look back at Hai, listening to him babble on about his date with Malikiah.
A few late night studiers walk past as he talks, giggling as they recognise him.
I look at them sternly as they take out their phones in attempt to take a picture.
"Sorry, Miss Moore" they respond sheepishly and I smile back warmly as they walk away.
"Aw, ain't you a cute little librarian" Hai teases and I roll my eyes.
"What do you need?" I ask, putting a stack of returned books on the trolley and carting it along to their respective isles.
You would think that after sharing the word with supernaturals for so long, they would make enchanted books that fly to their shelves by now.
But no!
It has to be done by hand.
I sigh.
"I heard Xian stopped by last night" Hai says.
I stop in my tracks, look at him and then continue, without answering.
"What happened?" He asks eagerly.
I shrug.
He sighs and holds up a paper brown bag and my mouth immediately starts watering at the smell.
It's Malikiah's mother's famous chocolate cake!
And it's fresh!
"Is it 'enchanted' this time?" I ask, making Hai chuckle softly.
Malikiah's mom is awesome.
But like Malikiah, she is extremely mischievous, especially when cooking and that means that sometimes she'll enchant food before giving it out.
Particularly desserts.
Last time she made cremé caramel that made me stupid high for about a week!
"No, this time it's normal!" He protests.
I nod and move to take it from him but he steps back.
"What happened?" He asks and I rub my hand over my face.
"We made out and I kicked him out" I say and he sighs, handing me the dessert.
I take it from him and unfold the bag, until I can see the oozing chocolate.
I take a bite and savour the taste in my mouth.
Thankfully, food is aloud in the library, because we have a very thorough cleaning staff.
"You are such a pig!" Hai says, amusement on his face and I hold a finger to his face.
"Wasn't it you I finished the 28' pizza with?" I ask.
"Touché" he shrugs.
"But my brother really likes you" Hai tells me.
"No, your brother wants to fuck me. There is a difference" I say.
Hai sighs again.
"You know that's not true" Hai says picking an elastic band off of his wrist and tying his hair.
"That will rip out your hair you know" I tell him.
"He's been after you for months!" Hai reminds me, ignoring me.
"He should have thought of that before embarrassing me" I shrug, picking up another book.
Hai takes it off me and puts it on a higher shelf.
"But what if he's sorry?" Hai asks.
"Then why am I hearing it from you?" I ask answering his question with a question.
"And why are you trying so hard for us to be together?" I ask skeptically.
A blush creeps across Hai's face.
"Because you'd make a cute sister in law?" Hai asks rather than states.
I laugh at his adorable lie.
"The truth please, Hai" I respond.
"I can't be the one to say it. You'll hear it from him" he says, looking away.
He wants to tell me, but he can't.
"Alright, you're off the hook, this time, fish boy, but you owe me more food at my next shift tomorrow" I tell him and he nods grinning brightly.
We continue shelving books and I help out a couple of kids with their homework, after Hai leaves.
But one thing seems to replay in my mind.
The tall and handsome, but incredibly rude stranger.
Who was he?
