"Vi!" Mingus practically screamed while jumping out of his chair and running towards me. I held out my arms and he was instantly in them. I couldn't help the smile that formed on my face. This is what I had missed the most about New York. This kid was awesome.
I looked up to see Norman had one too. "Hi, buddy," I said. I was a little shocked at how welcoming he was. He pulled back and grabbed my hand while pulling me to the kitchen table. Norman followed behind and handed me a plate. I sat down across from Mingus.
"What have you been up to, buddy?" I asked as I grabbed some pizza for myself. Mingus instantly jumped into many animated stories about what had happened while we were away. Norman and I watched him intently as he talked about cideo games and things that happened at school.
Soon we had finished off the pizza and were heading to the couch to watch a movie. "He's glad to have you back," Norman whispered as we settled on the couch while Mingus picked the movie. I looked up at him to see a content look on his face.
"I'm happy to be here," I said snuggling into his side looking for some body heat. Mingus finally put the DVD in the player and flopped on the couch beside me. Soon an animated movie popped up on the screen. Norman let out a deep sigh and look over at Mingus.
"This again, Ming?" Norman asked and I cocked my eyebrow. "It's my favorite," Mingus said as he got comfortable. Norman sighed again, but settled back into the couch wrapping his arms around me. I looked up at him with an amused look wondering what was going on.
"I can quote this movie word for word," Norman said. I chuckled. "But it's his favorite," I said defending Mingus. Norman smiled and kissed my forehead. He turned his attention to the screen and I couldn't help but laugh when he quoted the first line perfectly.
Before I knew it, Mingus had fallen asleep on the couch slumped against my side.
"He's out," I said looking up at Norman only to see that he was out too, I felt a smile forming on my face. I slowly slid myself out of Norman's arms and stood up. I stretched and looked down at Mingus who was sleeping peacefully.
I slowly slid my arms under him and picked him up off the couch. "I'll get him," Norman mumbled with the sleep thick in his voice. I shook my head. "It's alright, you get your own self up and head to bed while I tuck him in," I said. Norman mumbled something incoherently as I walked down the hall and into Mingus's room.
I gently laid him down on the bed and brought the covers up to his shoulders. I pushed the hair out of his face before walking out and closing the door slightly behind me. I made my way to Norman's bedroom and saw that he was already sprawled out on the bed in his pajama pants and no shirt.
I quickly changed into some pajamas before crawling in beside him. I nudged him lightly to get him to scoot over but he was already snoring softly. I chuckled and slid under the covers as best as I could. He would most likely move in the middle of the night anyway.
I laid my head on my pillow and sighed softly. This was all still new to me. I was still having a hard time processing this. I wasn't used to laying down with a man who wasn't going to beat me in the morning when I woke up. My brain felt like it was going a mile a minute.
An arm came gently around me and it caused me to jump. "I didn't mean to scare you," Norman mumbled sleepily. I cuddled closer to him enjoying the comfort. I laid my head on his naked chest. His skin was cool under my cheek which I didn't mind.
"It's all good," I whispered back thinking that he had already fallen back asleep. His arms squeezed around me and I knew otherwise. "What's on your mind?" he asked. I shook my head. "Absolutely nothing," I said as my arms wrapped around his middle.
"Liar," Norman said. I smiled slightly and sat up a little. "Hurtful," I said jokingly. Norman's arms tightened a little more around me. "Now, what's on your mind?" Norman asked me. He was awake now. "It's nothing," I said. Norman cocked his eyebrow at me.
He was tired. I knew he was even though he was awake now. "I know when you're lying," he said. This time I cocked my eyebrow. "And how's that?" I asked. He smiled. "You don't look me in the eye and you get really quiet," he said. I rolled my eyes.
He already knew me too well. "How about we get some sleep? We can always talk in the morning," I said trying to lay back down. He grabbed me around the waist and pulled me to him. "I don't think so," he said. I looked up at him and gave him a sad face hoping he would cave and let us both lay down, but I could tell by the look on his face that it wasn't happening.
I turned to face him and placed my hands on his chest. "It's not that I don't like it here," I said. His eyebrows pulled together. "Where did tha-," I put my fingers to his lips. "Let me talk," I said shushing him. He nodded and I dropped my finger from his lips.
"As I was saying, it's not that I don't like it here. It's just taking some getting use too. I'm not used to being around someone who doesn't act repulsed by me, or someone who isn't going to hit me just because I breathed too loudly," I said. Norman arched his eyebrows.
"Where is all this coming from?" he asked. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. "I don't know, I guess it's just been on my mind since I got here," I said. Norman smiled a small smile. "You know this place is home now," he said. I instantly shook my head.
"No offense, but not yet. I don't feel comfortable here yet. For now, it's just a place that a friend is allowing me to stay," I said. Norman's eyes flashed a small pang of hurt. "Please don't be sad about that," I said. Norman looked down at me. "How can I not be?" he asked me in return.
I reached up and caressed his cheek. "What can we do to make this feel more like home?" he asked me. I shrugged my shoulders. "I can't possibly have you change your life around just for me," I said. Norman rubbed my back. "I invited you here. Therefore I want you to invade my space," Norman said.
I chuckled. "You haven't even hung any of your new clothes up," Norman said. I looked up to see the half empty closet he had cleared out for me. I knew there was a couple empty drawers as well. The bags from my shopping adventure were all laying on the floor.
"I know, it just doesn't feel right," I said. Norman sighed and pulled me down in the bed with him. "You drive me nuts, you know that?" he asked me rhetorically. I chuckled. "I have a bad habit of doing that," I said. Norman's hand came to my hair and played with it gently.
"We'll figure out something," Norman said. I looked up at him. "What do you mean?" I asked him. He kissed my forehead. "We'll figure out some way to get you more comfortable around here. I just don't have time to think right now. I'm too tired," he said.
I reached up and kissed his cheek. "What was that for?" he asked. I smiled before laying my head on his chest. "For being awesome," I said. Norman smiled and bent down to kiss my cheek as well. "You're pretty awesome too," he said. I slept with a smile on my face that night,

Well then, there is it. Vi isn't feeling at home in Norman's house. What do you think Norman will do in order to change that?
I'm sorry I have neglected this story. I have had so much inspiration for The Way We Were (A JDM Story) that my ability to write for this story and DB&BA seems like crap to me. I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter because I felt like I slept through it while writing it!
