Here's the next chapter, Nords!
--
Norman was right. We had definitely missed our flight by a long shot. Okay, it actually wasn't that bad. We had only missed it by 15 minutes, but that was obviously 15 minutes too late. "Damn it," Norman grumbled as we sat down in the chairs in the corner.
"Norman, it's quite alright. We don't go back to work for another two days, remember? We just wanted to get back in time so we could rest before going back into production," I said. Norman pushed his Raybans onto the top of his head. "I know. I just promised we would make it here on time," he said.
I reached over and squeezed his hand before quickly pulling it back. I didn't want anyone to possibly see and then it be all over the tabloids. "Look, Norman, It's alright. Some promises are meant to be broken. You needed to say a quick goodbye to Mingus," I said.
Norman reached over and lightly squeezed my hand before pulling it back. "I know. I'm fine now. I promise," he said. He pulled out his phone and I watched as he opened a random game app and got engrossed in it. I grabbed a random book from my backpack and started reading it. I was really getting into it when suddenly my phone buzzed. I grabbed it to see that it was Cynthia.
Have you guys made it home yet?
No, we're stuck at the airport. We missed our flight.
Awe no, what happened?
Nothing bad, we just stopped by to say bye to Mingus and then got stuck in traffic.
Mingus? Who's Mingus?
Norman's son?
You met his son? Bitch, why didn't you tell me this?!
Sorry! I'll call you about it later! I gotta go, official looking people approaching.
I quickly put my phone away as three official looking people approached. Two were security guards and the other one looked like a receptionist for the airport. "Mr. Reedus, Miss Johansson," the lady said as soon as she was in ear shot. Norman tucked his phone away.
"Please allow my sincerest apologizes for the delay of your second flight," she said. I felt myself cocking an eyebrow of confusion in her direction. "We were planning on getting you a flight in the next 45 minutes but due to the incoming rain they are delaying the flight for three hours," she said.
I looked over at Norman who didn't have much of an expression on his face. It was already three in the afternoon. Our flight wasn't now leaving until six in the evening at the earliest. "That's quite alright," Norman answered for us. I nodded and smiled agreeing with him.
"If you would like we can give you a complementary dinner at our airport restaurant along with moving you two to a more private room until your flight is ready," the lady said. I looked over at Norman to see if I could read what he was thinking.
He gave me a small smile. "Neither is necessary, thank you," Norman said. The lady gave us a small smile. "Please take the free dinner at least. It's the least we could do for this inconvenience," before Norman could say anything I jumped in cutting him off.
"That would be great, thank you," I said. She smiled again. "Alright, and if you two need anything else please just find a security guard or go to the desk and ask for me. My name's Chelsea," she said. We nodded. "Thank you," Norman said softly.
"One more thing," she said before walking away. Norman cocked an eyebrow this time. "Is there any way we could get a picture?" she asked. Norman and I looked at each other and smiled before standing up. "Absolutely," we both said and Chelsea quickly snapped a selfie with us and the security guards.
"Just please don't post this on social media until after we're gone. We would hate for this place to be bombarded with fans," Norman said as we sat back down. Chelsea nodded as she tucked her phone into her pocket. "No, absolutely. I completely understand," she said and all three of them walked away.
"Might as well get comfortable," Norman said as he placed his backpack on the bench and laid down using the backpack as a pillow. His feet were facing towards me. "You can use my lap as a pillow, ya know? It's probably a lot more comfortable than your backpack and the bench," I said.
Norman looked around as well as I did. We noticed that besides a few older couples we were the only ones waiting for a plane ride out of here. Norman tossed his backpack to the floor and switched positions and put his head in my lap. "Better?" I asked while looking down at him.
He smirked. "Much better," he said while getting comfortable. His right arm was hidden between the bench and himself soon I felt his fingers ghosting lightly up and down my side. "So tell me," Norman said as he looked up at me. I cocked an eyebrow at him.
"What?" I asked him in return. "What inspired that song you sang last night?" he asked me. I chuckled softly. "I'd say that one is a no brainer, wouldn't you?" I asked him rhetorically. He flashed a bright smile. God, I loved it when he smiled with his teeth.
"Well, one could assume but I wanted confirmation," he said. I felt myself sinking back slightly into the bench. "Hey," Norman whispered softly while rubbing my side a little harder to bring me back down to the real world. "He hurt you that bad, huh?" he asked me.
I bit my lip slightly before nodding my head. "More than you could ever imagine," I told him quietly. He pulled a sad smile and I rubbed his arm gently. "Don't worry about it. It's all over now," I said. His eyes locked with mine and I could see the questioning look in them.
"Lay it on me," I told him knowing that there was another question he was dying to get out. "Is it really?" he asked me. I cocked an eyebrow. "Is what really?" I asked in return. He smirked slightly. "Is it really over? Between you and him I mean?" he asked again.
I sighed and shut my eyes tightly. I pinched the bridge of my nose before letting out another sigh and looking down at him. "I don't plan on going back to Matt if that's what you're asking," I told him. He gave a slight nod. "What are you planning on doing?" he asked me.
I shrugged slightly. "I'm sure Flanery, Clark, Cynthia, or one of my band mates will let me do some couch crashing until I could find a place. That wouldn't take me too long though," I said. I watched as Norman's mind whirled around what I was saying.
"You could always come stay with me and Mingus," Norman volunteered. I gave him a tight smile. "That's very sweet, but I don't think that's a good idea," I said. Norman rubbed my side again. "And why not?" he asked me. I shrugged with a small chuckle.
"We barely know each other and I think it would also be a little awkward for Mingus," I said. Norman shook his head. "Vi, Mingus already adores you from what he knows about you and I can already tell that you are really good with him," Norman said.
I bit my lip. "Why are you fighting this?" Norman asked me. "Fighting what?" I asked him return. Norman gestured between us. "Me, you, us," he said. I bit my lip again. I wasn't liking where this was going. "Do you not like me? Do you not enjoy my company?" he asked me.
I could hear the slight hurt tone in his voice. "No, no, believe me I do," I said. This time Norman sighed. "Then what's the big deal?" he asked me. I shrugged again. I wasn't really sure what the problem was. Then it hit me. "I'm scared," I whispered softly.
Norman sat up at that point and turned around to where he was facing me. His body was flush against mine. I could feel his breath hit my cheek lightly. "Why? I'm not going to hurt you like he did, Vi. I was raised better than that. I would never do anything to hurt you," he said.
I gave a slight nod. "I know...I know," I said. "But do you? Do you really?" Norman asked while placing his finger under my chin to make me look at him. "Let me tell you, you have the prettiest eyes. I get lost in them every time you look at me, you're talented beyond belief, you have a great sense of humor, and you're great with my son. There's nothing more that I could ask for," Norman said softly. I felt a small smile come across my face as my cheeks heated up.
"Nobody's ever told me that before," I said. Norman smiled. "I will tell you that every day for the rest of your life if I have too. You need to see and feel the love and appreciation people have for you," he said. At this point he had my hand in his and was rubbing my knuckles with his thumb gently.
"So what do you say?" he asked me. I chuckled slightly. "About what?" I asked in return. Norman cracked a smile. "Me, you, us," he said and I could hear the chuckle in his voice. "Nothing serious, let's just see what happens and see where it goes," he said while squeezing my hand slightly.
"Okay," I said. "Okay?" he questioned. I smiled up at him. "Okay," I said again to reassure him. Norman smiled and took the baseball cap from his head. He leaned in and covered our faces with his cap before kissing my lips lightly. He tasted like mint and stale cigarette smoke.
Norman pulled back and rested his forehead gently against mine. His breath fanned my face but I somehow found it quite relaxing. "How about that free dinner now?" Norman asked me. I hadn't even opened my eyes yet. I was still on cloud nine but I could hear the smile in his voice. "Yeah, let's go."
