| Twenty-Six |
It was a long day.
An ache swelled
in my heart
as I closed my eyes.
Your melodies
rang in my ears,
flowed through my blood,
leaving a soft sensation
that prickled the very surface of my skin.
I could hardly describe this feeling,
this yearning
that overcame me
from the tenderness
that painted your body
as your fingers danced
across the
cool brass keys,
as your lips
closed and parted
to breathe sound
into the body
of such a delicate thing,
and your eyes,
tightly shut,
as if trying to compose
or dispose of
a memory.
I couldn't tell which.
But I knew this.
The love you have,
that fills your body
and flows through your saxophone
and into this world,
that love
is eternal.
Is honest.
It defies all words,
all descriptions
and can only be seen,
can only be heard.
