It was payday,
and when I went to see you,
you were finishing up one of your most difficult pieces.
Your baggy clothes fluttered with the wind,
as the thread from your fingerless gloves
hung dreadfully
for the cold air to snatch up
and carry away.
Pulling out the five dollars
from my back pocket,
I bent down to place the money
in your case.
And when I looked up,
I immediately
got lost in the richness
of your dark brown eyes.
A hint of gratitude
sparkled in them
as you nodded towards me.
I couldn't help the shivers
that traversed down my spine
at that very moment.
All I could do
was wrap my coat tighter around my body
as I shielded myself from the wind.
The way you breathed life
into your saxophone
caused my fingers to tingle
and my cheeks to warm.
I couldn't help the grin
that etched itself
across my face.
Attempting to hide this rush of giddiness
that consumed me,
I buried my face into my scarf
before turning around
and walking
towards the train station.
My heart pounded painfully
inside my chest.
