Chapter 2
It was a couple days before the party and Riley was making me go dress shopping.
We went to a dress shop and Riley pushed me into the dressing room while she gushed and picked out some dresses that she liked and wanted me to try on.
She picked a few dresses and gave them to me, one blue dress in particular caught my eye.
I try it on and step out and Riley smirks widely.
"OMG, Abbs! You look amazing!" Riley says as she pulls me over to the mirror on the wall to see for myself.
I'm in awe of how I look.
"Wow. I look, not terrible." I say.
Riley laughs as she puts her head on my shoulder from behind.
"Not terrible at all." Riley adds.
"Do you think Zach will like it?" I ask turning towards her.
"He will if he has eyes. You look incredible, Abbs." Riley says with a smirk and I laugh.
"You wanna go to find a dress for you now?" I says and Riley smiles again.
"Thought you'd never ask!" She says excitedly.
We look for a cute dress and Riley finds one she adores.
It was a purple one that Riley totally rocked.
After getting our dresses, we managed to find shoes to match and purses and other accessories to go with them.
We walk up to the register and we pay for the stuff with cash Riley and I got from babysitting.
We go to the coffee shop and get lattes talking about how we'll do our hair and makeup for the party and Riley teasing me about Zach adoring my outfit, causing my face to be a red tomato.
We go to my house and hug as Riley walks back to her house.
I go inside and up to my room.
I shower and go down for dinner.
I mostly stayed quiet except for answering the usual questing from my parents.
"So, Abbie, how's school?" Mom asks me.
"It's fine. " I say picking at my food, so that they won't ask me another question.
"What about you, Sam?" Mom asks my brother.
He looks up from his phone at mom, then me.
He gives me a look that says 'what?'
I look back mouth "school."
"It's okay." Sam says.
"Put the phone down, Sam." Dad says.
Sam sighs and puts his phone in his pocket.
"You kids have any plans for the weekend?" Mom asks us.
"Yeah. I'm gonna hang out with my friends." Sam mutters staring down.
"What about you, Abbie?"
"I was going to go to a party with Riley." I say excitedly.
"I'm not hungry. I'm gonna go to my room." Sam says as he gets up from the table.
He leaves and I look at my parents.
"I'm gonna go check on him." I says and my dad says. "Don't bother. He's having one of his teenage mood swings."
I glare at Dad and leave the table.
I knock at my brother's door.
"Go away!"
"Sam, it's me, Abbie. Can we talk?"
He doesn't answer so I walk in.
He's on his phone sitting in his bed, his eyes red and puffy.
"What's wrong?" I ask him and he told his eyes.
"I'm just tired of mom and dad pretending they care about my exsistance." Sam says and I give him a confused look.
"Sam, they do care-" I was cut of by my brother.
"Maybe they care about you, but they don't give a care about me. I could jump off a bridge and kill myself and they wouldn't care." Sam says, his eyes starting to water up again.
"They don't care about me or my life. They don't know my best friend, they don't know who I'm dating or even that I'm gay. They don't know me. And for the record, they don't care. Abbie, they care about you because you're the oldest and the favorite. What about me? What about my life or my happiness? They can pretend to be good parents and love me and whatever else, but I know, that they never will for real." Sam says.
I put my arm around his shoulder and he puts his head on my shoulder.
He buries his head into my shoulder and sobs.
Normally, I would have teased him but it figured it inappropriate.
I had barely ever seen my brother cry since we were kids. But seeing him sob and he so vulnerable like this was heartbreaking.
After a while of sitting there Sam wipes his tears from his cheeks and got up.
"I'm gonna go to Dolan's house." Sam says.
"Ooh, who's Dolan?" I say wiggling my eyebrows causing my brother to blush.
"N-no one, yet. I really like him though." Sam says.
"Aww, my little brother has a crush!" I tease.
"S-stop it!" Sam blushes.
I laugh and hug his shoulders.
"Sam" I say and he hums in response.
"I'm sorry about mom and dad. " I say.
"Why? It's not your fault they hate me." Sam says.
"They shouldn't hate you. They're your parents." I say and Sam replies with. "Yeah? Tell them that."
"Well, I love ya, little bro." I says and Sam groans.
"Sis! Stop it!"
"Aw, come on, you know you love me." I say and he gives me a look.
"Yeah, whatever." Sam replies with.
In my brother's world, that was Sam for "love you, sis."
At least that's how I saw it.
Sam and I walk out of his room and he closes his door.
I hug him again and he goes downstairs while I go to my room.
I walk in and hear the front door close.
I close my bedroom door and sit on my bed.
I turn on a random movie on Netflix and start texting Riley.
We're talking about the party and she keeps teasing me about Zach and me denying it, Riley being Riley, she wasn't buying it.
I evetally feel asleep with watching whatever movie was playing and Riley pinging my phone Every five seconds.
The party was in a couple days and I was so nervous about it.
Who knows what will happen?
Probally nothing. I'm worring for nothing.
Right?
