GIBSIE
OCTOBER 31ST, 2004
OKAY, maybe I was a little pissed off. I wasn't trying to be mad, but every time I thought about it, I wanted to break something.
I mean, how could people be so disrespectful to such a sweet girl.
Walking into the strangers house seemed to make everything even worse. Every time I saw a boy, I wanted to punch him, even though I had no idea if they were apart of the bet thing. Maeve said that there were dozens of guys from different years involved in 'the bet' which only made it worse.
I swear, if I found out any of the boys on the rugby team were part of it, I would beat the life out of them.
My eyes scanned the crowd looking for a particular pair of brown eyes. It didn't take long, it was like my mind was magnified to her. I always found her. No matter where we were, if she was there, I could find her.
This house was very open, meaning I could see the kitchen from where I was standing by the door.
Michelle was standing by the island in the kitchen. Some random dude was talking to her and she didn't seem to be paying much attention. She would nod along, but her eyes were too focused on scanning the people all throughout the first floor.
Then she saw me and a big smile formed on her lips.
I wanted to jump up and down.
Michelle mumbled something to the boy who was talking to her, pointed towards the stairs behind him to his left, then walked around him and turned right, her eyes not leaving mine until she was standing in front of me.
"Finally. Too many people have been talking to me." She said, even though she sounded annoyed, she still had on a huge smile.
She was wearing a black long sleeve shirt that clung to her body like that was it's only purpose and a very short and poofy skirt.
I didn't know what she was supposed to be, but she looked great.
The only reason I looked away was because she started talking again.
"You're Spider-Man!" She sounded very excited.
I nodded "yeah."
The only reason I decided on Spider-Man was because she told me to be Spider-Man. Ever since Hughie said we should be superheroes, I had been struggling to pick one. I had honestly just given up and decided I'd be Superman like the other thirty guys at the party, but then Michelle said Spiderman and it seemed like the best idea in the world.
"What are you?" I didn't want to sound mean, but I was confused.
She didn't answer, instead she lifted her arms up revealing two large blue butterfly wings.
I felt myself smile.
She looked so pretty.
"I lost my antennae somewhere? I think it was when the strange guy was touching them." She shrugged pointing back towards the kitchen.
"Some strange guy was touching you?" The anger was back as I watched her nod.
She was still pointing behind her towards the kitchen, where the dude she was talking to a minute ago began to make his way towards the staircase behind him.
"You know." She turned back to look at me "ever since Maeve told me about that bet thing, I've noticed how many dudes randomly come up to me and try to talk to me."
I bit the inside of my cheek.
"None of them can really hold a conversation though." She shrugged.
"Yeah?" I almost laughed "that's probably because they don't care about the conversation."
She laughed "yeah, I guess not." Then she stepped forwards, wrapping her arm around mine and pulling me further into the strangers house.
"Hey Johnny." Michelle smiled as we approached my best friend "You look hot."
Excuse me?
Johnny laughed "thanks Michelle, so do you."
Excuse. me.
Johnny looked towards me and his smile fell.
I must have been glaring.
He cleared his throat, "I mean that in a totally friendly way." He said, running a hand through his hair.
Michelle laughed "yeah, I know."
I looked away from my best friend and back at Michelle, hoping that my glare had disappeared.
She was still smiling, I'm pretty sure she hasn't stopped since I first saw her. Her eyes were locked on something in the kitchen as her head lightly bobbed along to the song playing on the speakers and her finger tapped against my arm with every beat.
The lights from the kitchen reflected in her eyes making them seem lighter than they actually were. The lights were dim for some reason, but I could still see the perfect outline of her face.
"Hey Gerard." She turned to me, her smile faltering only slightly.
"Yeah?"
"Let's get drunk."
