things didn't change much for the next two weeks, it was all still full of school and textbooks and short nights together before one left early in the morning and the other slept in to cure the hangovers.
he should be there right now, playing with the boys hairs and scolding him probably, but taehyung couldn't help the busy schedule he's been in. the textbooks laid out on the kitchen table were screaming at him already to learn the information. if it wasn't for his mother walking in with a pretty smile and soothing tone, he just might have lost him mind.
"taehyung, something came in the mail for you." she was obviously very excited, a big envelope in her hands that had the brunette widening his eyes and standing up abruptly.
"oh my god." he said, pointing at the envelope, "oh my god." he said again.
his mom was beaming with joy, despite not even knowing what the letter said, "it's from the school!" she jumped in her place and pushed the piece of mail towards her sons chest, "open it!"
"big envelopes are good right?" taehyung said, looking down at the enclosed mail and seeing the schools name across the label in big proud letters. zokei university in tokyo.
he sat back down at the table, feeling like his legs would give out any second, his mother quickly took the seat beside him. this was probably the most important moment in his life, or one of them at least. it was only his dream school since beginning to fall in love with film and all things production.
"just remember," his mom stopped him real quick, her hands over his as they were about to tear open the flap, "no matter what it says, you did your best and i'm so proud."
taehyung smiled at his mom and nodded, "thanks mom." he said.
there really was no more reason to wait, his mind was completely blank and all he could focus on was the swirl of his stomach and knowing very well this envelope determined his future. that was a scary thought, and he couldn't help but almost not want to look.
the paper ripped easily, a messy tear exposing nice paper with printed ink spelling out his life. taehyung didn't even realize his hands were shaking as he unfolded the paper and scanned over the first few lines, the words registering immediately — his stomach dropping.
"i got in." it was almost like living in a dream, like he wasn't actually there sitting in his kitchen with his mom who was now standing and hugging him. everything seemed like a blur, it was nothing like he thought it would be. getting into zokei always seemed to be a huge deal for him, the fantasy of confetti and shouts of joy once reading the acceptance letter — but it wasn't like that. all taehyung could think about was him.
his moms voice finally came back into focus, her happy ramble quite typical of a mother who's child just got into a prestigious university. "— i have to call your father, and the congratulatory dinner needs to be moved closer and all our family members needed to be notified, oh my goodness tae baby i'm so happy for you." she continued on, walking into the kitchen and grabbing her phone. he even noticed her wipe away a small tear.
taehyung sat in the chair still, his hands holding the letter and eyes reading over the same words over and over. there was a part of him that hoped he didn't get in, because that meant he didn't have to move so far away. getting accepted only meant he had to go, there was no way he could turn down a change like this, and it made him sick to his stomach.
"taehyung." his mom called for his attention from the fridge.
"hm," he hummed.
she was too busy looking for food and waiting for someone in his family to answer the phone to actually notice his lack of enjoyment. "call jungkook and invite him over, the three of us can have a small dinner and celebrate."
"okay." he wasn't too thrilled to let his boyfriend know right away, personally he'd like to process this information a little more before having to actually realize this would add so much more stress to their relationship. taehyung just sighed and pulled out his phone, dialing the ravenettes number and only needing to wait a second before he answered.
"baby, hi." jungkooks voice always sounded deeper through the phone for some reason. the brunette certainly wasn't complaining.
"hey," he said, still holding the letter as biting down onto his lip. "i got my letter from the university."
"i'm coming over." jungkook didn't even bother to hear what else the boy had to say, hanging up and leaving him to sit there again in the kitchen. taehyung turned to his mother who was pulling various meats out of the fridge. by now she knew how much their guest eats. "he's on his way." taehyung told her.
it may have been ten minutes, and the front door was already opened and jungkook came walking in. "hi mrs. kim," he greeted his boyfriends mother and kissed her cheek before walking over to the brunette. taehyung was still at the kitchen table, except now clearing it off of all his books and pens. "hello jungkook." his mom smiled, "help yourself to anything."
he just nodded and thanked her, despite adoring the woman, he was more focused on the quiet boy shoving textbooks into his backpack. "hey taehyung." jungkook said to get his attention.
which worked, because taehyung looked up and finally seemed to notice that someone else walked into the room. the younger smiled, the anticipation getting to him the way it did as he sped on his way over here, but he wasn't expecting the reaction he got. taehyungs eyes seemed to turn glassy, his bottom lip quivering before he turned and made his way very quickly to the stairs.
"taehyung?" his mom called, seeing her son leave so suddenly and so visibly upset. jungkook just took off his backpack and looked over at the woman, "i got it." he said, before following his boyfriend up the stairs.
he assumed taehyung would go to his room, which they've been in plenty of times so jungkook had no issues finding it in this big house. "baby?" he said, knocking lightly on the wooden surface as he peeked into the room.
taehyung was laying on his bed, an arm over his eyes without even acknowledging the younger as he walked in. the tears were clearly going down his cheeks now, and jungkook hated it.
"tae," his voice was so soft, a frown on his lips as he sat beside his boyfriend and reached for his free hand, "look at me please."
of course he was stubborn, and his arms stayed over his eyes and his chest moved with each hiccup from the crying. jungkook sighed and started to play with the boys fingers, waiting a second before speaking again. "i'm so sorry tae, but please don't cry. tell me what to do to make you feel better. that school is dumb for not wanting you to study there." he may not have been the best at comforting people, and jungkook really just wanted the boy to stop crying and to just look at him.
"that's the thing though kook." taehyung hiccuped and moved his arm, looking up at his boyfriend with glassy eyes and loose tears on his cheeks. "i did get in."
it took a second for the ravenette to register what taehyung just said, the words and his appearance seemed to contradict each other which left him a little confused. "then why are you crying?" he smiled at his boyfriend and tugged him up so they were both sitting next to each other on the edge of the bed. "this is a good thing you dork."
taehyung still didn't seem so convinced, his head falling onto the youngers shoulder as he sniffled. "it's so far away." he mumbled. "i'm going to miss you."
"yeah, it is." jungkook said. he couldn't deny the crack in his heart at the thought, knowing very well that taehyung once said there was no realistic way for him to drop everything to follow his boyfriend to college. "but hey, we still have the whole summer and when you're there we'll still talk all the time, facetime everyday." he tried to cheer up the crying boy, wrapping one arm around the boys shoulders. "i'm really good with a camera."
that got taehyung to laugh a little, snuggling further into the boys side as he hugged him closer. and they sat like that, together on the bed in each other's arms, just listening to the sound of the other's heart beat.
"this is a good thing."
