monday's were always bland and boring, kind of like the cereal sitting in the bowl in front of him. he's been staring at the little circles and imagining a full plate of bacon and sausages instead, maybe if he tried hard enough they would appear — it didn't work, he already tried to make his boyfriend appear that way.
"are you having a staring contest with cheerios?" jimins voice broke him from his thoughts. the shorter boy was sitting on the counter with a bag of chips in his lap. he had stopped by his best friends apartment after school to keep the ravenette company.
"i lost." jungkook said, pushing the bowl away and holding his hands up to signal his friend.
jimin got the message and threw over the chips after shoving a handful into his mouth. he tried to say something, but it only resulted in muffled sounds and spilled crumbs over his thighs and floor.
"i understood none of that." jungkook said.
his friend got off the counter and struggled to swallow the large amount of snack in his mouth. the mop of hair on his head was newly died purple, it had faded from being pink after a while but he liked it too much to go back to a normal color. "i said," jimin repeated, "why are you eating breakfast at five in the afternoon?"
the younger just stuffed some chips into his mouth and shrugged, "i forgot what time it was." that was honestly the truth, after saying goodbye to taehyung this morning he just fell asleep and didn't bother to set an alarm.
"you're so lost when he's not around." jimin chuckled and stole the bag of chips back before skipping into the living room. he was still obsessed with the new couch and the way the seats had cup holders and could recline. jungkook recently replaced all the furniture in his apartment and made it look even more fancy. apparently his new years resolution is to 'level up his crib.' "i can't imagine how you'll be when he leaves for college."
it was a harmless remark, but it was one that hadn't even crossed the youngers mind — and it made jungkook freeze in his steps. after dropping out of high school at the end of last year he hasn't even considered anything else in regards to school. he didn't stop to think about what taehyung wanted to do after graduation.
"come on," jimin was still oblivious to the chaos he caused in his friends mind. "let's watch cartoons."
"you pick." jungkook said, making his way over and sliding into the seat right next to his friend. the shorter boy always cuddled, so he might as well get close now before jimin came crawling over half way through the episode. "you know me so well." he grinned and his eyes disappeared, picking his legs up to drape over the youngers.
"yeah, yeah just pick." jungkook chuckled and leaned his head back. as much as he tried to relax and pay attention to the cat chasing a mouse on his television screen, he couldn't stop thinking about his boyfriend.
taehyung was currently at the library, he had texted the younger to let him know he couldn't come over after school today. the brunette was busy with his nose in his textbook trying to cram for the exams coming up way too quickly. it was only the beginning of february, but that meant he had three months to prepare. it may be a little excessive, but taehyung was slow and had to start early.
"weren't you suppose to study with tae?" jungkook asked a few minutes later.
his friend was still snacking on the chips and giggling to himself. "we decided to meet on wednesday, he wanted a head start." jimin explained, still not taking his eyes off the screen.
jungkook just hummed, but he was restless. he could stop his thoughts from running on now. "has taehyung talked to you about college?" he decided to ask instead of what he really wanted to. it was probably too early to seem like such a clingy boyfriend.
"not really," jimin said, "he's mentioned a few places he wants to go to." the shorter boy held up a chip to his friend after that, a silent request for him to shut up and just enjoy the episode they were watching together.
the ravenette just huffed and stole the bag of chips to busy his hands since he couldn't do the same with his thoughts. he missed the pout on his friends face but it soon disappeared once he paid attention to the show. they sat like that for an hour or so, neither really paying attention to time as they remained absorbed in their own tiny worlds.
it was a knock on the apartment door that had their thoughts interrupted, a fluffy head of brown curls poking in and giving his friends a tired smile. taehyung walked in and saw the two boys tangled together on the couch and took that as his hint to climb on top as well.
"hello to you too baby." jungkook chuckled, patting the boys back who flopped on top of them and hid his face between their shoulders.
taehyung said something, some form of greeting that was muffled by jimins t-shirt against his face. "want some chips?" the shortest asked, picking up the nearly empty bag and nudging the brunettes shoulder.
"no." the boy just slumped further into the cushions, trying to get them to swallow his tiny self up.
"let's go eat baby." jungkook offered. he's sure the boy just stayed at the library and studied too long without properly feeding himself.
his boyfriend just mumbled something again and shook his head, finally sitting up and climbing up off his two friends. "i have to get home, my mom is making dinner." taehyung said as he went to pick up his backup. the poor kid was visibly tired and the drag to his steps showed it.
jungkook frowned slightly and stood up to approach the brunette, his hands went to the boys waist out of habit, "okay, call me after?" he asked, only receiving a tired nod and quick kiss to his lips.
"sure, goodnight guys." taehyung said, giving his boyfriend one more hug and kiss before leaving just as quick as he came in. it was like he hadn't even been there at all, and jungkook was still frowning.
i could have gone and had dinner with him. he couldn't help but think and frown at the lack of an invite. it wouldn't be the first time he's had dinner with his boyfriend and mom.
"damn i'm not looking forward to exams." jimin said, getting up from the couch as well and going to grab his backpack, "i should probably get home too and do some homework." he told his younger friend who was still standing there and looking at the door.
"yeah, see you later jimin." jungkook went to open the door for the shorter boy who smiled and thanked him.
they said their quick goodbyes, soon the door between them and everyone left alone whether they wanted to be or not. jungkook certainly didn't want to be, and it may have been habit, but the moment that feeling started to creep into his chest, he grabbed his laptop and beer from the fridge.
this is how he spent nights like this, up late in his bed with bottles decorating his sheets as the glow of his computer illuminated the bags under his eyes. it was the feedback from the ones he knew loved him, and they'd always be there for him when he needed it. comments flooded the video and all the positive words made a little smile show on the boys face. this was okay, he was happy, this was his happy place with the people who have been there for him from the beginning.
