it was a little random to get a call this late at night, especially since he thought he made it very clear what his plans were. the glass was cold against his palm and not even half way gone when he felt the phone vibrate in the back of his skinny jeans.
"what."
"wow okay, don't sound excited to see me." jimin said.
"we're on the phone, i can't see you." jungkook said. he sat up straighter on the stool and flicked away a stray peanut on the bars counter. a woman seemed to take an interest in him, smiling over and waving a manicured hand. jungkook just turned the other way and took another sip from the glass.
"whatever." jimin said, "i need to see you."
"that sounds scandalous, don't let yoongi hear you." there was a lack of humor in his tone that should've been there, and by the noise in the background jimin knew where his best friend was. the bar was a pretty recognizable place.
"meet me at leo's." that's the last thing he said before hanging up and leaving jungkook to grumble some profanities and leave some cash on the counter, downing what was last of his drink before walking out into the seoul streets.
leo's was a small pizza place down on the corner of an intersection where the traffic lights never seemed to work. there always seemed to be some sort of collision and curse words yelled out of windows. jungkook tugged his coat closer around him and made a dash across the street when it seemed to be a good time. only one taxi honked their horn.
"jimin. what are you on." jungkook wasn't amused to see his best friend sitting in one of the booths with the biggest grin on his face. there was something on his mind, there had to be, there was no way he could be this happy considering what day it was tomorrow.
"nothing! come on sit sit," he urged the moody younger to take a seat across from him, sliding into the booth and sighing. "i ordered you a milkshake."
"thanks."
jimin nodded, and he was still smiling goofily. "so, you'd say i'm pretty much the pro at watching television, right?" he finally started to explain why he dragged jungkook here this late at night.
"you don't do much else." jungkook said, but their was no energy to entertain this any longer. he just wanted to leave and go back to drinking his sorrows away. "jimin, what's going on? taehyung leaves tomorrow and i'd very much like to continue my date with depression."
jimin was still smiling, and it was starting to get creepy. this was his best friend too that was going to be leaving for another country, yet he seemed to be in one of his best moods. "i've seen this plot too many times, taehyung isn't going anywhere."
"what do you mean, he bought a plane a ticket, he packed." jungkook said, not quite sure why the other boy was being delusional. now wasn't the time to play pretend.
"so?" jimin continued, "in every show, the couple always ends up together because they are meant to be together. you and taehyung are meant to be together, so there's no way he's leaving. he'll just throw away the ticket and we'll help him unpack tomorrow night."
maybe it was the hope in his heart, or the alcohol in his system that made his brain a little slower, but he really shouldn't have been making sense of what his friend was telling him. "we are meant to be together." jungkook said, it's taken a while for him to say it out loud but the feelings were there. he's thought too much about their future for it to just vanish all of a sudden. "okay but what about maddie on dance moms? she really left the show."
jimin seemed to think for a second, "okay but that was a reality show."
"ahh," jungkook smiled now and they nodded their heads, one a little drunk and the other a little stuck in denial. either way, they somehow made a previously bad night into a semi good one with milkshakes.
apparently they stayed with this mindset until the next day, both staying at the youngers apartment and waking up to find some more food in the kitchen. there really wasn't much, jungkook stopped grocery shopping once his boyfriend wasn't around as much to feed.
"you suck." jimin said. he's been walking back and forth between the fridge and pantry, hoping that opening one of the doors again would surprisingly make food appear.
jungkook just ignored him and kept searching for something to wear in the closet. "i don't want to look too fancy you know." he said.
"yeah because he's not going so what's the point." jimin was simply wearing a pair of loose jeans from the day before and a hoodie. he looked how he normally did on a casual day, but the ravenette still wanted to look a little nicer. especially since the plan was to kiss taehyung after the moment he stays and doesn't get on that plane.
by the time he found a nice shirt to wear and pulled on fresh jeans, a text appeared on his phone, chiming throughout the apartment. there was a change of plans, and taehyung had asked to stop by his apartment to say goodbye. jimin had insisted this was because he wasn't going, and that they were all meant to go upstairs and order wings and play monopoly. jungkook decided to believe him, they were meant to be together.
"let's go downstairs." jungkook was getting himself excited, after their beach day he hasn't seen taehyung, they only texted a few times. it was starting to feel like torture when they used to spend almost everyday together, but that was weeks ago.
the two boys jumped down the stairs maybe a little too fast, there was no way they were taking the elevator. jimin was a lot more confident with his television show theory, but it only made jungkook nervous since he got his hopes up. there was such thing as good karma, and he's done well recently, and if he believed in god or some other deity then he'd be praying right now that this works out the way he wants.
"do you see their car?" jungkook asked. he was swaying back and forth in his boots, the nerves visible in his body language.
"it doesn't matter," jimin was still smiling and was a lot more relaxed then the other.
jungkook just chewed on his bottom lip and kept looking down the street to see taehyungs car turn around the corner and approach his apartment building. once it did, he felt his heartbeat quicken, and when he saw the brunette get out of the car his heart may have given up completely.
taehyung smiled, it was a sad one, but he was glad to see his two best friends there together. at least they would have each other. "hi jimin." he said, his voice was always deeper in the morning. jungkook loves that.
"hey tae, it sucks that you're leaving." he said it with a smile, bumping his elbow against jungkook and winking up at him.
taehyungs eyebrows furrowed momentarily, but he looked at jungkook and seemed to forget everything else. "hi kook." he said.
"hi taehyung." the ravenette said. he was quite sure what to do with his hands, so they stayed at his sides, "so i was thinking, later tonight we could rent a movie and you can order whatever takeout you want. jimin already got the beer."
now taehyung looked very confused, he's not sure what they were talking about or why now was the time to play games. there was a slight pang in his chest, but he bit his bottom lip and forced himself to speak. "what are you talking about? i'm leaving in an hour."
"no you're not." jungkook stepped closer now, his hands grabbing for taehyungs. there was an intensity in his eyes that made the brunette want to cry some more, it had to be torture hearing this now. "we're meant to be together tae, you can't leave, you're suppose to stay and we're suppose to be happy and you're suppose to beat me in scrabble and i'll get mad but then i won't care because you're here, with me."
"stop," it sounded like a plea, and taehyung couldn't look up at the boy gripping onto his hands like his life depending on it. "my moms in the car kook, i'll call you everyday." he wrapped his arms around the younger, a hug he had been imagining in his head the whole ride over here, but he felt his heart crumble when jungkook wouldn't hug him back.
so taehyung let go, and he smiled one more time, looking at both his friends, "goodbye guys." he said.
they stood there together, shoulders touching and eyes stuck on the car as their best friend got back inside. "don't worry," jimin patted the youngers back and kept nodding, that same smile sitting so strongly on defiant plump lips. "that car is going to turn around and come right back here."
they watched, "any second now." jimin said. his lips started to waver.
the car disappeared amongst the rest of the seoul city traffic, and the two boys seemed to disappear amongst the flow of pedestrians brushing past them. "this show sucks." jimin was no longer trying to smile, the realization of his delusion kicking in and he did his best to not cry when the one beside him needed him most. they stood on the side walk, staring at what seemed to be nothing, and no one noticed the two broken boys.
