01: Back To Normal... But..
The blue sky was seen in all its splendor, while the sun provided light and warmth to everyone. The Flickys sang while they flew, the other animals ran carefree through the green pastures, and of course, Sonic's friends prepared a specific area to spend the afternoon together.
A normal day in Green Hill.
It was as if nothing had happened.
As if all those universes created by the Paradox Prism had never broadcast.
Maybe that's for the best.
Several kilometers away, the sun's rays were beginning to warm the exhausted body of a certain hedgehog, which had already recovered its characteristic natural blue color due to the loss of the Chaos Emerald at some point during the restoration of the original universe.
Pretty normal once they're done their job.
Slowly, he began to react, his body hurt a little but nothing more, or at least not to the point of considering it risky for his life, just typical when losing his super form after an intense battle.
With effort, the hedgehog managed to get up, sitting on the grass while he looked around, verifying that, indeed, reassembling the Prism gave him back his beloved Green Hill, and by extension, his friends, smiling unconsciously when thinking about the latter. He wanted to meet them as soon as possible, hug them, tell them how much he had missed them, apologize for not listening to them sooner, and promise not to make the same mistakes in the future.
However, all that internal happiness almost automatically went out when, surprisingly, the clothes that a certain nine-tailed fox was wearing appeared a few centimeters away from him; His shoes, pants, gloves and shirt, nothing was missing.
Sonic stared at them, apparently Nine was right about everyone ceasing to exist once the gem was restored. It was a bittersweet feeling, obviously he was not happy with this, although it was true that both had had their differences and had not been on very good terms mainly due to Nine's foolishness in not wanting to recognize that he had every right to want to recover. his home, friend and life in general, he also did not believe that he or any of the variants of his friends deserved to just disappear like that.
Unfortunately, not everyone could win in this situation.
Both was equally selfish.
Neither extreme was good but there was no other option.
--- ...I guess you were right about that... ---. He whispered in a serious but at the same time sad voice as he approached the articles of clothing lying on the grass, preparing to pick them up.
He didn't know what exactly I would do with them, but he couldn't leave them there. Maybe he would keep them in a drawer, since he didn't think Tails would want to use them, not to mention that it wasn't appropriate for him to do so.
However, when he went to pick up the shirt, he felt as if something slightly heavy was inside it, but when he went to check what was inside, "it" rolled until it landed on the grass. Fortunately he hadn't lifted his shirt much, so the impact wasn't as strong. The emerald-eyed man's face was filled with amazement and confusion when he saw what had fallen.
It was Nine.
Or well, a smaller version of him. Physically he was Tails, if it weren't for the difference between his bangs they could be taken for twins, in addition to the absence of his mechanical tails, retaining only his two biological tails.
The hit against the ground was strong enough for him to wake up and open his blue eyes suddenly. His look was different, there was no bitterness, resentment, hatred or despair, rather, there was confusion, surprise and... fear? He didn't understand what had happened, he was in an unknown place, his head hurt from the blow and he was cold.
He felt brand new.
He needed someone to give him comfort and attention.
It was then that he met Sonic's gaze.
The baby looked at the blue one intently, he didn't seem to recognize him, but somehow, his childish mind seemed to assume that this must be his parent or at least a caregiver, therefore, he had to tell him how he felt so that he could solve the problem.
Sonic barely had time to process what he was seeing when the crying started.
That was enough to make him react, dropping the clothes he had picked up and rushing to pick up the little boy in his arms. He had never held a baby before but he tried his best not to drop it.
--- Shhh~ Don't cry... Don't cry Nine... ---. He whispered, rubbing the bruised area with the tips of his fingers.
This seemed to be working, little by little, the crying was beginning to turn into a soft sob. At the same time, the fox settled into the older man's arms, clinging to him as much as possible with his little hands.
--- That's it~ That's it~... ---. He continued speaking to him in a soft tone, taking a few minutes to observe the naked boy, questioning how this could have happened. --- ... Everyone was supposed to cease to exist... But... You are here... ---.
Could that mean that the rest of the universes and variants were still intact?
The probability was high but he would need help to find out, Nine was the only one who had knowledge about the Shatter-verse and the energy housed in the Paradox Prism, but it was more than obvious that due to the state he was in he would not be able to help him. He would have to turn to Tails for this job, although it will take time for him to investigate and understand what he was getting into.
But before doing anything, he had to take care of the baby.
Carefully, the hedgehog laid the baby fox down on the soft grass, an action that caused him to make some moans of annoyance, wrinkling his face into a pout, he did not want to be separated from the older one. Upon hearing this, the hedgehog knew that he had to act quickly, so he hurriedly spread the shirt on the ground, placed the baby on it to finally wrap him, so it would be easier to carry him and so that he would not be cold, at least until he get baby clothes.
After this, Sonic carried the boy with one arm and the rest of his clothes with his free hand and then began walking in search of his friends. He was not going to risk using his speed while having a child in his arms; the past adventure had already taught him to think twice before performing them.
--- Is there news? ---. Amy questioned worriedly.
The picnic was already prepared, everyone was gathered, the only thing missing was the presence of a certain blue hedgehog to begin the fellowship.
--- Nothing yet... ---. Tails responded without taking his eyes off his communicator. --- He doesn't answer the calls... He must have forgotten his communicator again ---. He let out a sigh.
--- Anyway he knew about the meeting... Maybe he lost track of time and is on his way ---. Knuckles argued, trying to be optimistic, after all, Sonic never missed any meeting with them.
--- What if Eggman attacked him by surprise? ---. The pink hedgehog questioned. --- ... Maybe he's in trouble and needs us... ---.
--- Look, here it comes ---. Big Ad while pointing.
Everyone turned in the direction where the purple cat was pointing. Their faces were filled with relief when they saw the silhouette of the blue man appearing among the palm trees that decorated the entire area, this time and fortunately for everyone, Eggman, apparently, had nothing to do with their delay. However, that happiness at seeing him slowly turned into amazement when, as he got closer to their position, they realized that he was carrying clothes that did not belong to any of them in his left hand, and most importantly, a sleeping baby surrounded by his right arm.
---Sonic... ---. Amy and Knuckles said in unison looking at both the hedgehog and the baby.
--- That... ---. Tails' eyes widened as he noticed the great physical resemblance that boy had to him.
--- I must talk to you... Now... ---. It was the only thing the hedgehog said, letting everyone understand that what was happening was very serious.
