Chapter 13: Adjusting

Jessica woke up to the silence that filled her home and to the three people who slept right beside of her, the kids were snuggled up next to Evan as their faint snoring filled the room.

"I'll let y'all sleep." Jessica said as she moved Grayson over a little bit as she laid the comforter back over him.

Jessica was in the kitchen when a knock startled her as she went to open the door.

"I wanted to call, but the kids are still sleeping, I assume?"

"Yes and so is Evan."

"He needs to get up."

"Sarah, it's eight thirty in the morning."

"So, how is life with two little ones?"

"Great!"

"I brought them a couple of presents."

"Well, thank you."

Evan had just woken up to see Jessica's side of the bed empty when he seen Paisley and Grayson sleeping still.

He was about to walk downstairs when he heard Jessica talking to someone as he wondered who'd be here this early in the morning.

He listened closely at the voice as he knew who she was talking to as he prepared himself for a shower.

...

Jessica fixed breakfast for herself, Sarah, Evan and the kids as all three of them came down the stairs as Paisley wanted to be held.

"Good morning." Sarah said to Evan.

"Good morning to you too." Evan said as he poured himself a cup of coffee.

"Got any big plans for the day?"

"Not that I know of." Evan said as he sat down beside of Jessica.

"I thought about maybe taking the kids to the park for awhile."

The kids got excited about the park as Evan helped Jessica prepare breakfast as he started kissing her neck.

"Why are you kissing mommy?"

"Because mommy and daddy are married." Paisley threw a piece of fruit at her brother.

"Don't throw food baby." Jessica said as she kissed Evan back.

"By the way, are we still on for Friday night?"

"Going out with you, Holland and Susan. I'll stay home and get drunk if that's what you're planning."

"Well, you can always get your mom to babysit."

"Fine, I'll go, but next time, we'll go to a nice restaurant so everyone can meet them."

"Evan would you like to join us?"

"Sure, nothing like sitting and being outnumbered by a few ladies."

Jessica smirked as she thought about what it was like when they went to a bar or somewhere no one could hear them.

"Baby, I promise to make sure you'll have a good time." Jessica whispered in his ear as his face suddenly flushed with a healthy shade of pink and red.

"I'll see you to it baby doll."

"You better prepare yourself baby."

"Don't I always?"

"You threw your back out on our honeymoon."

"That's because you're the best I've ever had."

"Y'all make me want to throw up." Sarah said.

"Why Aunt Sarah?" Grayson asked her.

"Your mommy and daddy are weird."

"So are you Aunt Sarah." Paisley said as Evan and Jessica laughed.

"I'm a good kind of weird baby."

"Sometimes."

"I'll tell our kids where babies come from if you don't stop telling them stories about me.''

"That's our favorite bedtime stories." Jessica said

"I'm going to get dressed." Evan said as he kissed Jessica and headed upstairs.

...

They were at the park as the kids wanted to swing, so all three adults took turns swinging both kids.

"So, how did your kids like the idea of you adopting?" Sarah asked her.

"They loved the idea, I did adopt once after all the hell I went through after the IVF treatments didn't work."

"Well, I'm happy for you. Now, you have something to look forward to when you get home."

"I haven't been this happy since before my kids left home and after I married Evan. I dread the day when Paisley and Grayson leave home and go off to college."

"We still have awhile before that happens."

"I know, I just worry about the future.''

"I know you do, but now you don't have to anymore."

"Thanks for always sticking by me."

"Always."

"We need to travel again before it starts getting cold."

"Where are wanting to go? I have a husband and two kids that need me."

"How about we spend a week in New York or LA?"

"I'm not ready for the kids to go to the big cities yet. The press is already enough to handle and with two young children, that's the last thing me and Evan needs is to get ugly with the press because they won't leave us alone."

"Well, what do you suggest?"

"I do have something planned, but that's just for me and Evan."

"What are y'all planning on doing?"

"With all the craziness that surrounds us, we want to take a trip."

"Just you two?"

"Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but do you know how long it has been since me and him have taken a trip by ourselves, just me and him?"

"No, it doesn't sound crazy at all. What day do you leave and who do you have in mind to watch the kids?"

"We leave next Tuesday and we come back that Sunday. We thought you might want to watch them?"

"Me and Holland would love to watch them for you and y'all deserve a week to have some fun."

"Speaking of Evan, where did he go?" Sarah asked looking around.

"I have no idea." Jessica said as she too was scouring the area for her husband.

"Well, it's time for lunch anyway, so come on babies."

Grayson and Paisley walked in front of them as they went to find Evan as she found him talking on the phone to someone.

He ended his call as helped Jessica buckle their kids in as they went home to have lunch and lay their kids down for a nap.

"What are we going to have for lunch Mrs. Peters?"

"Well, I thought we'd have our leftover alfredo and veggie medley."

"Sounds great baby."

"And after we put our kids down for a nap, I wanna take a nap too."

"Sounds like a plan."

...

They made lunch and sat down with their kids to eat.

"Mommy, why are you going on a trip with daddy?"

"Because mommy has to go away for work and daddy takes cares of her."

"And y'all are going to stay with Aunt Sarah and Aunt Holland."

"Mommy?"

"Yes sweetheart?"

"When can we take a trip together, like all four of us?" Grayson asked.

"Soon baby, but mommy and daddy have to make sure of some things first before we take y'all places." Jessica said

"Where are we gonna go?" Grayson asked them.

"Anywhere y'all wanna go to."

"I wanna go see dinosaurs mommy."

"We'll go see all kinds of dinosaurs and you'll love the museum that we'll be taking y'all to soon." Evan said.

"I wanna go wherever mommy goes." Paisley said as both her and Grayson snuggled against her chest.

"Me too." Grayson said as they started getting sleepy.

"I want you guys to go wherever I go to." Jessica said as she tucked Grayson in for bed as he clung to her.

"I want mommy." Grayson said.

"You want mommy to read you a book?" Jessica asked.

"Yeah." He said as he went to grab one when Evan entered their room with Paisley.

"Daddy, read with us." Paisley said

"Okay baby, snuggle up with mommy and bubby." Evan said as he put Paisley in between Jessica and Grayson as he sat behind Jessica.

"What are we reading?"

"The Little Train That Could." Jessica said as both kids took turns reading too with her.

"Mommy, I want to go see trains." Grayson said.

"We can go do that if you want to buddy." Evan said

"I want to ride on one too." Paisley said.

"That sounds like a great day and a fun adventure." Evan said.

"We'll see what we can do." Jessica said as she read on until the end in which, both babies fell asleep.

"Ready for a nap?" Evan whispered in her ear.

"Yes." Jessica said as they got comfortable.

...

A little while later, both Evan and Jessica made reservations for the dinosaur museum and the train park.

"Remind me of how I got so lucky?"

"Because you chose me to be your wife."

"Yes I did and it was the best decision I ever made." Evan said as he kissed her.

"Too bad our children have our bed occupied."

"I know, but they'll get up soon and we have tonight."

"Now, I feel like the luckiest man on earth." Evan said as Jessica kissed him.

Author's Note: I'm updating all my books as you can tell, so hopefully I won't get so behind anymore. Sorry for the long wait! Enjoy! ❤
