A big thank you to everyone who was invested in this book and have gone through this journey with me (it has been a struggle!). I was inspired to write a book with a strong female fatale who didn't take shit from anyone—not even a man who held her at gun point.

I love writing strong black female characters because I know there are millions of girls and women out there who want to relate to stories that are about them. Sweet Dreams is based loosely on my life in Chicago and how people who live here want nothing but to get out and see what else the world has to offer. Being a black teen growing up here has heavily influenced my outlook on how the world and how people work. I hope this book has given some the strength to be able to make choices of their own and not to be limited.

Amari is a character that encompasses the American Dream of reaching for the stars but first having to handle to shit that's been lurking in her rear view mirror for years. I love the way that her personality has reached many of the readers who have been following on this journey with her as well.
