"Henry! So what you are telling us is that you will not be playing Turbo ever again?"
The pesky reporters shot question after question at Henry. He sat on a panel with the other cast members of the MC franchise.
"Like I have said before, personally, the league did not work for me. However, I have some unfinished business with the superhero role. And with that being said I am far from done with playing Turbo."
He seemed totally relaxed when he was responding to each of the reporters. Even when they asked him the most inappropriate questions. He just made my job easier.
"Before we close, I want to thank the crew for coming to this panel with us today," the host said into the microphone and everyone began to clap as the cast stood up to wave their last goodbyes.
The interview was over and Henry walked backstage to where I was playing with the wheels of my skateboard.
"Thanks for coming with me," he went in to hug me and I reluctantly accepted it as a friendly embrace. "It truly means a lot."
"It's really no problem. I didn't have anything else to do today," I said as my eyes glazed over to a clock that made me curse under my breath.
4:30p.m.
"What's wrong?" Henry asked leaning back from the hug.
"I actually did have one thing to do. My best friend set up an appointment so I can get this fixed," I showed him the chipped nail.
In addition the appointment was for Nova to tell me the new information she received on the case.
"I can drive you there. What time is your appointment?"
I really don't want him to drive me.
"5."
"Yeah, I'm definitely driving you because you won't make it far on that skateboard and a sprained arm. Let's go!"
"How long have you known Vincent?" I asked casually.
"We met at NYU when we pledged to the same house. Theta Alpha Psi."
I didn't know much about greek or the houses, but I did know that Theta meant atheist and Psi was an apse which was an altar in a church. Two words in a bipolar phrase.
After making a mental note of the fraternity name, I went to ask him another question but as we made it out the door he stopped us.
"You're gonna need this. I don't want you to get followed home by those monsters outside," he took his navy blue cap out of his pocket and placed it on top of my fro.
"Aye, careful!" I snapped which made him furrow his brows in confusion. I didn't mean to yell at him but him harshly putting the hat on my natural hair really triggered me.
"You gotta be real gentle when dealing with hair like mine," I reassured him and gently placed the cap on my head.
"Noted," he smirked when he saw me readjusting the cap on my head. "I like the way that hat looks on you."
I ignored his comment and pointed my head toward the door so we could go.
I felt him lift my hood up on top of the cap and he put his hand on my back to lead me to his car. He's been doing that a lot lately.
Flashes from cameras could be seen even in the broad daylight. I kept my head down even when they came right in my face.
"Henry, is she your new girl?"
"What happened between you and Lucy Cork?"
"How long have you two been together?"
Henry closed his door which slightly muted the reporters outside, but their voices could still be heard.
"Buckle up. I don't want to risk getting a ticket."
I chuckled at his comment as I buckled up and he drove off leaving the flashing cameras behind.
"So where am I heading?"
"Buff Up. It's a nail shop on 83rd and Clark."

"The glasses and the hat don't fool me," Nova told Henry as she started wiping the polish from my fingers.
"There were paparazzi following us everywhere," I whispered to her trying not to expose Henry's identity. Oh the irony.
He decided to stay to get a pedicure which I respected. However, I made him put on my sunglasses and the hat he made me wear so no one would recognize him.
"Anything new?"
Nova took out my usual color and I was surprised to not hear her talk negatively about the bland polish.
"Vincent and Henry both went to NYU. They pledged the same house and everything."
"Which house?"
"Theta Alpha Psi."
Her hands froze over mine for a moment and went back to painting.
"How was Vincent today?"
Her hesitation disturbed me in the slightest since Nova's tan skin turned pale.
"He was grumpier. He also did a nude scene with Kiana today. I think they're closer than they are letting on. I'm also meeting up with Claire on Sunday."
With an approving nod to my progress today, Nova finished up with my nails that were in my sling and Henry came over to sit in the chair next to me.
"I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Henry," he kept his voice low so no one would hear him and held his hand out for Nova to shake.
"Nova Velasquez. And of course I know who you are. I know that nice ass from anywhere," Nova cooed nonchalantly and played nice as she put away her supplies.
"Well, thank you. I have been trying to get Amari to notice it for the longest," he bantered.
Right as I was about to shoot a comment at Henry my phone rang with an unknown number.
"Hello?" I picked up as Nova continued to distract Henry from the disdain hidden in her eyes.
"An inmate from Brancher Prison Facility is trying to reach you. If you would like to receive the call press 1. If not please hang up."
I almost dropped my phone when the automatic voice started talking. It was like my heart skipped a beat and it wasn't in a good way. My hands were already clenched in fists and I can imagine that my brown face had already gone a few shades lighter.
"Go to the back," Nova said. By the look in her eyes she knew exactly who was on the phone.
I glanced to Henry who had to be confused.
"I'll stay with him," she reassured me.
With one last glance at both of them, I got up to walk to the back room where Nova's office was. Since she worked here since she started college, she convinced the owner to give her an office of her own.
I closed the door behind me and the recorded voice repeated itself.
"An inmate from Brancher Prison Facility is trying to reach you. If you would like to receive the call press 1. If not please hang up."
My hand shook as I pressed the number and placed the phone up against my ear again.
"Hello?" my voice was a whisper and almost inaudible.
"Amari! How's my girl doing?" His hoarse and vibrant voice greeted through the phone.
"Fine," I kept my answer short and curt because he rarely called. When he did he'd always want something. If there was a problem pertaining his medication or the need for more money he'll always ask his only child to help him.
"Well I'm doing great by the way, sweetie. But not too great."
Here he goes.
"What do you want? More money? I just sent you your monthly check last week," I said irritated.
"No. You don't know what it's like in here, girl. It's eat or be eaten. I'm Nemo in front of all these fucking piranhas," he began to speak fast. "I think I'm going crazy in here."
I think you've already hit crazy. Don't worry. I'll save us both.
He hasn't been sounded like himself since he's been locked up.
"Then what is it that you want?" I spat. My anger began to overflow not just from him but Vincent.
"I've been trying to contact your cousin Jaden for the past month and he hasn't been answering my calls."
"Maybe he's not answering for a good reason. I should be more like him-"
I was about to press the end button on my phone before I heard him trying to stop me.
"Wait! Just get your cousin to call me. That's all I ask. Please," his wheezy voice croaked.
I bit my lip so hard that I thought it was going to bleed.
"If he calls then you'll know. Bye." I hung up as fast as I could and I felt that my face was wet.
Why was I crying? It's not like my own father didn't care to ask me about my new job or how school was going.
I roughly wiped my nose and set my mind upon one goal which was a priority.
Remember, it wasn't his fault. It was HIS fault. Kill Vincent Carter Passaretti on his home soil.
I don't want to poison our land with his blood with the potential of breeding more like him.
After checking my face in the camera of my phone, I skipped out the office like nothing happened.
Nova saw the forced smile on my face and followed suit. I knew she wasn't going to be badgering me with questions later on. I honestly didn't mind it because she knew how talking about my father made my heart burn.
"Sorry for dragging you all the way to a nail shop to have midwives ogle you," I told Henry as we exited the shop with a nod to Nova.
"It's no problem. I actually appreciate cougars," he winked my way. I hugged him unintentionally and he kissed my forehead which made me stiffen a bit.
"Very professional, Grant," I scowled at him playfully.
I will find out what you had to contributions in this monster.
"Thank you very much!" He drove off with a shiny smile on his face leaving me feeling cold yet heated.
