SUMMARY: Maya Saunders is slowly losing everything: her boyfriend, her best friend, her life. Then, she loses everything all at once: her hometown, her mother, her mind.

When the residents in the city of Los Angeles, California begin to get sick – a simple, but stressful high fever, hoarse cough, and fatigue – everyone assumes a bug like flu is going around. However, when videos get leaked of people being shot but not dying, there is talk of something more sinister occurring throughout the city. Day after day, the city becomes more and more chaotic: people getting Shot, police blocking roadways, riots, and the dead rising.

Maya joins a group in escaping the city, hoping to make it out safe and sound. Never has her life been more at risk than it is now. All she is hoping for is to keep herself and her loved ones alive, and to not become one of the living dead.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Maya is dating Nick in the beginning, but their relationship is strained due to his constant drug use and him cheating on her with Gloria. Alicia is her best friend, whom she feels like she is slowly losing because Alicia is going off to college after graduation. She pretty much loses her mind in the apocalypse because of the horrors she faces and is bloodthirsty. Alicia helps her get back to who she really is, possibly putting them into a romantic relationship.
