WANDA MAXIMOFF STROLLED THROUGH THE HALLS DISTRACTED THAT DAY, the doctors eyes glued to her screen as she peered at a brain scan she had ordered previously. Her recent patient, who she had just checked on, had been in a crash which resulted in an unexpected amnesia which she was yet to find a cause for.

The scan, luckily, showed no evidence of swelling in the brain, but the severity of the crash didn't seem enough to direct to amnesia. Biting her lip, the doctor only looked up from her screen to draw her attention to the resident walking past.

"Hill, could you ask Ms Carter to send in a consult for my amnesiac patient?"

The resident, Maria, nodded obediently, peeling off her gloves and tucking them away before approaching the office of the hospitals Head of Patient and Medical Services, Sharon Carter.

Her eyes were drawn back down, but not on the screen this time, deciding to give it a break and signing off on discharge papers awaiting her, along with other files lost amidst the storm of her workload. She was grounded back to earth with a warm hand on her shoulder, gently shaking her into reality.

"Wannnnda, you know how Barnes got his residency here? Yeah, I've totally seen him eyeing Nat up, girl won't admit that shes so whipped. Anyway, you coming to Molly's with us later? We need girl time, and I'm craving a drink or twenty. Wanda?" Doctor Yelena Belova rambled to one of her closest friends.

"Huh? Oh, sorry Lena, I'm actually buried in paper right now."

"Yeah, you definitely need a night out," the blonde decided, and Wanda attempted to protest to no avail as Yelena interrupted her with an, "Noope, I'm not listening. You are coming tonight."

The brunette couldn't fight the grin playing on her lips at her friends antics, finally surrendering to her orders with a falsely exaggerated "Fineee," a hand placed over her chest for dramatic flair.

"Doctor Maximoff?" Her attention was drawn to Nat who approached the woman with Doctor Strange not far behind her, looking completely distracted.

"Your consult," she told the woman, a smile pulling at her lips as she saw her friends failed attempt at hiding her disappointed grimace.

"NURSE! I need a nurse in here," Nat heard a voice call from treatment four, and her face fell into a look of annoyance as she squeezed Wanda's shoulder and walked away. Wanda shot her a look of sympathy, the patient was an ignorant man who decided women weren't enough to be doctors. He'd given Lena an earfull about it.

Wanda cleared her throat, shaking her head as she looked back up to Stephen who looked utterly bored, acting as if the whole situation was below him.

"Doctor, I was wondering if you could take a look at the CT scan for my amnesiac patient," she began, holding up the device to the doctor who recieved it with a gloved hand. "No shown head trauma, crash looked to be minor, he was brought in as a precaution. I can't find a reason for there to be-"

"Any family history of dementia, Alzehimer's in the family?"

"Too distressed to give me a full history, his sister's still drifting in and out of conciou-"

"Most likely a reaction from certain drug intake, could have caused his loss of control over the wheel, weakness in the limbs." Wanda couldn't help but notice the uninterested tone in his voice as he spoke.

"Uh- I will um order a drug test right away," she muttered, pursing her lips as she opened her mouth to thank the doctor, before closing it again as she found the man already walking away. Some things never change, she supposed, catching the attention of the nearest free nurse, Monica, and asking her to order a drug test.

"Thanks, Moni," she thanked, shooting a small smile towards the woman. She blew out a breath of air slowly, closing her eyes as she solidified her strength before going to check on some patients.

She knocked twice on the door, shaking her head once and setting her jaw. She had a job to do, and she would not allow herself to get distracted by Stephen Strange and the ghost of a doctor he was.

"Mrs and Mr Williams?"

Pushing back an annoyed groan, Wanda tucked away her screen, the results for her patients drug test echoed back proof of heroin intake, a drug which proved to have caused sudden mild amnesia.

"He was right," she murmured to Nat who had seated herself next to the woman, clearing up her desk as she prepared to clock out for the day.

Scoffing, Wanda shook her head and slammed down a piece of paper down on her desk, "It was right in front of me and I didn't think of it. The sudden amnesia, the loss of control, not wanting to talk about it."

"Stop, doing that to yourself, Wans. You're probably just overworked, it happens to the best of us. If your not up for coming out tonight then-"

"No, I don't wanna ruin this for us, Nat. And I'm pretty sure Lena was right, I do need a drink," she assured, lifting herself out of her seat and heading towards the doctors lounge to pull her belongings from her locker. Shrugging on her coat, she pulled out her bag and began to exit the lounge, too distracted to notice the company she had in the room.

In all honesty, part of her was stressing entirely over her family back in Chicago, her brother had recently been diagnosed with cancer and she couldn't help but wonder if he was keeping up with his medicine, telling the doctor about any abnormalities and keeping on top of his illness. She had assured him they could get ahead of it since they had detected it early, but she herself wasn't sure if she believed it. Her med brain had taken over as soon as she had heard of the diagnosis, and she ordered that he track everything, all his symptoms, and that he were to call her if anything seemed off. But she knew her older brother too well, his pride wouldn't let him tell her about anything, he would brush it off as something minor, despite all her scolding.

She shook her head, being pulled back to reality as she fumbled for her keys in her pocket, only to find them empty save for a few empty wrappers and receipts.

"Fuck," she muttered under her breath, holding back a flinch as she felt a tap on her shoulder.

"This yours?" The voice asked, and she turned around swiftly to find her keys dangling in the mans hand, a polite smile on his face.

"Yes, thank you so much," she said sincerely, recognising the doctor to be Doctor Rogers, Steve.

"I'm probably not the one you should be thanking, Stephen asked for me to get them to you. Anyway, I don't wanna hold you up any longer. G'night, Maximoff," Steve replied, ending with a wave as he began to walk away, leaving back a stunned Wanda.

She whispered a quiet, "Night," in response, fingers tracing over the cool metal of the keys as she began walking to her car, distracted once again, but this time, for different reasons, the words burning in her head.

Stephen wanted me to get them to you. Stephen? Wanda only knew one Stephen in the hospital, and he wasn't particularly fond of the woman.

With a roll of her eyes, Wanda scolded herself for her thoughts, she knew she was prone to overthinking quite literally everything. This wasn't that serious, he found her keys, was probably too busy to get them to her, and asked Steve to do it for him. Basic manners.

But someone with basic manners doesn't usually act like they would bolt at the first opportunity given when speaking to someone, wouldn't ignore thanks and wouldnt talk to her like she was five years old.

She turned on the engine, drawing her focus to the road as she turned on the radio, wanting the music to drown out her thoughts. Anything to get her mind off the confusing questions swirling her mind.

Yeah, she still wasn't willing to solve that mystery.

Not today at least.

"Okay, so I know I'm here slightly early, but I swear I didn't start without you," Wanda laughed, pulling out a seat for her blonde friend. "Where's the rest of them?"

"Moni's coming. Others, Lena's planning to drive them, Maria and Nat got pulled into another case, a shot wound victim," Carol told the woman, voice lowerimg at the end of the sentence before shaking her head, "Anyway, they're on their way now."

"Victims gonna be okay?"

Wanda hated the silence that followed, hated it so much. Loss, was a feeling that every doctor understood way too well. But it never seemed to hurt less, never lost the feeling of dread when your best isn't enough, when the monotone ringing of stats falling comes to an end.

"We have it rough, huh?" Doctor Danvers whispered five minutes later, a drink placed in her hand along with one in Wanda's. The woman in question had a vacant stare in her eyes as she shook her head gently, lifting the glass to her lips.

"Someone's gotta do it," she murmured back, gulping the drink down greedily as she ignored the burn it sent to her throat.

"Someone's gotta do it." The blonde echoed back, a peaceful silence setting between the two before their three friends joined them.
