There were no more nails left in Swara's carefully manicured hand. She had never been this nervous before in her life. But now, when she knew, Sanskar Maheshwari would actually be at her door step any minute, she felt like screaming. She was questioning her decision of obliging, when he said he will teach her. She had her doubts that he was just doing it all out of pity but he had been trying to reassure that he was not. She loved to believe he was being genuine and so she did. But at this moment when she was just a bundle of nerves, she couldn't help but question it.

Swara's parents were away on work and she was alone at home as she sent away all the servants too, which was a relief as there won't be a raise of unwanted questions. She had cleaned the entire house herself, something she had never done before because she didn't want Sanskar to assume she was messy. She even tried out some cooking and ended up with a decent pasta. She was all ready.

Still, when the calling bell rang, it took the best of her abilities not to pretend that there was no one home and not opening the door. But the realisation that it could probably end up being the biggest mistake of her life stopped her and she took a deep breath, before she opening up the door for him.

Sanskar could barely keep his mouth shut as he took her house in awe. It was at least a five times larger than his' and extremely luxurious. Scratch that all, the living room enough was bigger than his whole house. It was shining but not as much as the maiden of the house herself.

Swara looked like she came  straight out of a fashion magazine, with her elegant clothing and silky smooth hair. Is this how high class people dress at home or was she just wearing it because he was coming? He hoped it was the second before smiling and following her inside.

Swara seemed enthusiastic and nervous at the same time. She gave him a small tour of the house blabbering nonstop about the art and craft  of the house and he unapologetically tuned out after a while. It was definitely not his cup of tea. But his attention was back to her when they entered her room.

From the purple coloured walls where the pictures of her favourite bands rocked to the dozen teddy bear on the bed, it was super girly and he couldn't help but chuckle seeing it. The fact that the room was not messy at all caught his attention and he couldn't help but be impressed.

"This is my haven." She declared with an embarrassed smile.

"It's beautiful." He commented making her light up. His eyes studied every nook and corner of the room and as he said it was indeed beautiful. But one thing, he felt like missing.

Books.

There were none excluding her study materials which came as a big shock to him.  If someone comes to his room, all they will see would be books. But in here, nothing.

"What are you looking for?" She asked clearly noticing his actions.

"There are no books." He said honestly.

"Isn't these books?" She pointed at her  text books raising her eyebrows curiously.

"I don't mean those. I meant real books. Novels." He explained.

"I don't read much." She shrugged her shoulders. "In fact I don't read at all."

Sanskar couldn't help but be awestruck by this information. It was something he couldn't even imagine. How can one not read at all? "You don't read anything?"

"Not like that. I mean, I read vogue." She admitted. Maybe it was the innocent way in which she said that, he ended up laughing. The fact that the only thing she read is a fashion magazine was amusing and at the same time a little disappointing. But he knew better not to judge her.

"So what do you do in your free time?" He asked curiously. Most of his leisure time is spent reading and he had no idea what he would do if other than that.

"I'll tell you. Only if you promise that you won't laugh." Swara looked a little embarrassed making him more and more curious.

"Enlighten me." She smiled and opened up a drawer revealing a number of small books. She selected a particular one and handed it over to him.

"What is this?"

"It's a flip book. Just turn the pages rapidly from the back, you will see something interesting." He did as she told him to and he could see this miniature form of himself in it. He was falling in slow motion into a puddle of mud making it splash to the sides.

"This is amazing." He exclaimed in awe. He knew what did she mean by this. It was the first time she met him. She had told it that day when she proposed. She didn't knew the whole story behind it as he was really drunk that day (too much for the title of good boy) and him being extremely lightheaded caused him to smile.

It was a really bad proposal for a matter of fact. She dived straight into the matter. He could remember his friends muttering, 'ye bandi badi fast hai' which was the truth to be fair. Maybe he could give her some proposal lessons too. But first he would have to attain any knowledge on it himself.

And it's not like he was going to propose anyone.

Swara showed a few of her other works too. Most of it was him. He couldn't even imagine how much time she must have used for this! How much dedication!

Was he even worth all this?! What does she even see in him?! He was one of the boring kind of people. He was not like a super nerd or anything. But his world was small. Black and white.

But Swara was the exact opposite. The girl was a total surprise. A bombshell. Every minute he spent with her, he was learning more and more things about her. And all those were unbelievably interesting. There was no way other than admiring her. Her world was big and colourful.

They moved into the studies pretty soon after that. Sanskar had took some tuition classes for kids in the past, when he was in a need of money. But those kids were just there on their parents' pressure and all they wanted to do was get the hell over with it.

But teaching Swara was no similar to that. She was a slow learner but she was completely determined. She clung on to his each word like he was holding the moon.

Once the day's  lessons were over he asked her few questions on the topics. He complimented whenever she answered correctly and her growing smile had no limit. It was scary for him. The adoration with which she looked at him and the way she blushed whenever their hands brush unknowingly.

When she told him that she love him, at first he thought it would just be an infatuation or just a crush. There was no way he could believe in that now. That would be a lie to her and to himself. It was much more serious than he thought and he was just getting more and more involved as the days passed.

He enjoyed her company from their first actual interaction in the library itself. And when he first started teaching her it was like doing any normal thing. Just studying itself. But over the days, without even his notice he had began to long for her. When he's in college he was always at the edge of his seat to get the hell the out of there, the moment classes were over. So that he can meet her. So that he can spend time with her.

He does meet her the campus but they never interacted much. And ofcourse nothing felt as good as it did when they were inside the four walls of her room. Swara didn't even need his tutoring anymore. The parts she didn't knew were already covered. But she kept on bringing up some new parts to make him stay and he was too much happy to do it. And so the months passed.

And she didn't fail to surprise him all the time, maybe with her extremely luxurious closet (which got a little too literal) or snoring lessons (which she often do in the middle of his teaching, she didn't turn out to be that good of a student after the first couple of days) or her singing abilities (which she was actually proud of). But he enjoyed it all way too much.

He knew there was no point in denying he was attracted to her. Saying otherwise would only make him a big fat liar. But it was not a feeling he wanted to entertain. He knew even if they ever got together it was never going to work. They were too different. They lived in two worlds. And he knew whenever these two worlds crash, there would always be chaos.

_____________

The ever optimistic Swara was not so optimistic anymore. When she allowed Sanskar to tutor her, when she agreed to be friends, she never thought she would actually be friend zoned for ever. She thought he will grow to like her. She had been her best in these ten months and have done everything to make him like her. She was always a very likeable person but she could no longer believe in it anymore.

And it hurt damn so much. He was someone with whom she had imagined living her whole life. She had even decided their children's names, who would be incredibly cute by the way. But it seems like there was no point. They were not even meant to be.

But what was even more confusing was Sanskar's behaviour. He was all too excited when she was with him and she could see he was happy. Things have changed between them. The way he cared for her or the way he smiled at her screamed only one thing. But there was a never a move made from his side.

But today was her last. She was going to use the brahmastra and she knew if this didn't work, there was nothing left for her to do. She didn't want to lose hope but she knew the heartbreak was going to feel only worse if she lingered.

And that's what lead her to Sanskar's doorstep. Normally they would hang out at her place or the library or maybe some cafes too nowadays but today he had invited get home. It was his mother's birthday and for some reason he had invited her even though he said there was no big celebration. Just family. Maybe it's the day!

It was a perplexed Sanskar that opened the door. He just stood there open mouthed for some five minutes, not letting her in. And she knew wearing saree was a big mistake.

Swara got extremely nervous when Sanskar invited her to his home. She knew his parents would be there unlike hers who could only care less. But she knew this was the single most biggest opportunity too. Sanskar was a family man and she knew winning over his family would bring her a step closer to winning him over.

She was going to make full of use of this brahmastraa. And wearing a saree was her first step to it. He had tell her to wear something normal and this was what came into her mind. So she borrowed one of her mother's saree and somehow draped it decently with the help of YouTube. But his look was all enough for her to know that it was a big mistake.

"I'm going back and change." Swara whined and turned away, about to leave.

"No. Stop." Sanskar stopped her holding her hand. "You don't have to."

"I look stupid." She said disappointedly.

"No you don't. Only adjective I could use right now is gorgeous." He smiled giving her a pointed look. "This suits you."

"But isn't it too much?" She enquired pouting.

"Well, a little." He admitted. A saree was not actually his definition of normal. "But it's alright. Come in."

Sanskar's house was much smaller compared to hers but it was warmer. If given an opportunity she would have done some rearrangements here and there but it was alright. His parents were very welcoming and with her charms on, they liked her instantaneously. But the real problem was his nine year old sister, Preet.

Swara had no idea of how to deal with kids and Preet didn't seem to be a people person. She was giving her a complete cold shoulder and even tried to dump some of the ice cream on her. But Sanskar came to her rescue apologised for her behaviour.

Other than that, the evening went really smooth and she had a really good time. His mother had given her some cooking lessons and even showed her embarrassing photos of Sanskar from how childhood. Oh the fun she had .

But like all good things have an end, it had too. Sanskar walked her out and it was exceptionally silent.

"So," Sanskar started. He seemed like to be in a deep thought for a while. "Bye."

She sighed in disappointment, "Okay. Bye. Is that all you have to say?"

"Err..Yeah." He nodded.

"Alright. Okay. If that's what you want." She nodded her head vigorously and then turned swiftly to leave, but changed her mind in the last minute. "You know what, it's not alright. I want to know. I want to know what I'm doing here. I want to know what's going inside that big head of yours. I don't know Sanskar. I'm not a mind reader. What are you doing? Why? Your actions say that you like me but you don't even say a word. Do you know how much it hurts Sanskar? I'm done. I'm just done. I can't do this anymore. I just ca-"

Her words were left back in her mouth as she was yanked forward suddenly. Sanskar had crashed her onto him. His hands curling around her back. And he looked into her eyes with an undecipherable expression. He was talking to her through it. But she couldn't understand. He was too complicated.

And without another word, he smashed his lips on hers, with all his rage. All those unknown feelings and emotions that had been haunting him which he very well knew that she was the reason. And when she kissed him back, it was just magical. There was no restrictions anymore, his hands pulled her closer and closer until not a hairsbreadth separated them. Their breaths embraced, lips trembled and sparks flew...

Reality scooped in when his mother called from inside and they broke apart.

"Bye." He blurted out before running back in, running from that kiss, running from her...

_____________

It's been a month since. And she had never heard from him even once. Until today. Until that stupid letter.

It was a freaking cliché. He kissed her and pretended like she didn't even exist. The number of times she tried to talk to him, she had last count. Every time he ignored her, not saying anything which exceeds some two words.

If Swara was heartbroken by his rejection, this was heart smashing. He smashed it and broke it into tiniest of the pieces and gave it back to her. She had no idea how to cope up with this unbelievable pain. So she just cried. Cried and cried until her eyes were dry.

And now...

She was done crying. All she could feel was anger. After all this time, this was what she got. A letter, and that too listing all the things he hated about her (she didn't even snore at all for a matter of fact and she sing really well) and in the end claiming he loved her.

Pathetic!

Was all she could think of. It doesn't matter anymore if it was true. He had hurt her damn too much. And what he did was unforgivable.

And now, he has actually given her a leverage to hate him.

____________

Sanskar was well aware of the fact that he was the biggest idiot on the planet. As a result of over thinking and just getting too much inside his head, he ended up losing the single best thing that happened to him.

He was scared. Too damn scared of the consequences. He was falling for this woman but he had been trying to hide it. But she was a magnet and she kept on attracting him back. And on that day he lost all his control and he kissed her.

But he was too damn sure that this was gonna go crashing down. They would never last. How could they when they don't agree on even the smallest things?

The fire was undeniable. But they would only get burned.

So he shut her out. Avoided all contacts and pretended she doesn't even exist. He was hurting her. But he was hurting himself too and only when it got too much that he realised, what a stupid thing he did.

It was not like Swara doesn't knew it. She know how different they were. But still she was ready to take the chance. She was ready to make sacrifices. She was ready to work to make it work.

But all he did was hide away because he was scared. He was scared of the unknown future.

But it took his so long to realise that in love, you always have to take chances. You don't just owe it to the person you love. You owe it to yourself.

And here he was, ready to take the chance. He was going to tell  her his feelings. And what day is better than her birthday. He had been trying, writing a letter the whole day. And one of his failed attempts seemed to have not made it to waste basket but to Swara's hand.

He didn't realise how late he was until she marched at him and said those three words that was still ringing inside his head. 'I Hate You'. Even the thought made him flinch.

But he was not going to give up. He was going to fight for her and he didn't mind pulling some hard strings for it.

"Swara" The name echoed throughout the college walls coming from the speaker and Sanskar's hand shivered in which he held the mike. "Happy Birthday. I had to do this because I couldn't find you. At least by this you could hear me wherever you are.

I know. I fucked up. Royally. What I did to you was unforgivable and no amount of sorry is going to make up for it.

You are the sweetest person to walk this earth and you don't deserve this at all. You deserve to loved. You deserve to be cared.

And all I'm asking is for another chance. To make up for all my mistakes. To make up for all the time I wasted. I probably don't deserve it. But the guy you see me to be is not the guy I am Swara. It's the guy I want to be.

You are the best thing ever happened to me. You taught me what love is. You taught me how meaningful it is. And you made ne fall Swara.

I have fallen in love with you. I want you. I need you.

A chance is all I ask. And I promise you I'll spend my whole life making it up to you.

Will you be my girlfriend?

I would be waiting for you, at the place you first told me that you love me. If you don't come, I get it, I would walk away...

But if you co-"

Sanskar couldn't complete his sentence when his eyes fell on that same person he had been waiting for enter the cafeteria. Her face was tomato red and some tear stains were leftover. She was walking so fast and she came over straight to him.

Snap!

There was a swift swoosh of her hand and it landed right on his left cheek. Ouch!

"Well," He mumbled not looking at the woman who staring no, glaring at him with all the anger she could muster. "I deserved that."

He saw her roll her eyes from the corner of his eyes. "You surely did."

"So.." He started. "Am I forgiven?"

She gave him an incredulous look. "Are you kidding me? Of course not. I'm going to punish you."

"Oh!"

"I'm going to make you learn the brand of my thousand pair of shoes." She folded her hands over his chest and watched as his mouth formed an O shape in shock. "And you are gonna have to hear my horrribleee singing everyday, for the rest of your life."

She finished and threw herself into his arms. He couldn't believe it. It was actually happening. And he couldn't be anymore happier. And he realised this was everything he wanted.

"I hate you." She mumbled against his chest, hugging him tighter.

A giant smile formed on his lips with that and he replied, "I love you too."
