Chapter 4: Sparkle

Swara was wondering around on the roads, stabling her balance. She was clueless about the way she was behaving, it was as if something is intoxicating her whole mind and taking control, she slowly felt her nerves being pressed and gazed around, only to view her surroundings with a blur.

Few drunkards, who were moving left and right while walking, stop as they see her walking similar.

"B. . . Bhai. Is, is she copying us?" A whisper of the man behind, with a green bottle in his hand spread and the men gaze at her legs, seeing her stumbling left to right as she walks.

"Looks like she is. Let's teach her a lesson."

"Hmm." The rest hum as they agree.

The man throws his bottle onto the floor and the sound of it smashing stops Swara. She stares at the broken pieces and then at the men who were glaring at her.

"W. . . Why are you copying us?!" They shout, desperate for an answer. Swara curves a pout. "I. . . I'm copying you?" She replied with a question.

"Yes! Why are you walking side to side, like us?"

"I don't know. . ." She utters, frowning at them. "I don't know what happened to me!"

"Stop lying!" The stern tone made her jerk and her eyes glisten.

"I'm not lying!" She responds, sounding like a little child who is trying to convince someone.

The man stumbles forward. "Your punishment! You need punishment. For copying us and lying to us." He stutters and manages to complete it, looking at his friends who agree.

"Yes, punishment. You. . . You need to. . ." They trail off, trying to think.

"Sing?"

They gaze at her and she gazes down with her innocent look.

"Yes sing!" They agree and she slightly smiles, her eyes glow up and her cheeks raise as she stares at them.

"I'll sing. . ." She happily trails off, thinking of a song. "Ummm. . . Which song should I sing?" She asks herself, tapping her chin with her index finger.

The men glance at each other, raising their eyebrows at each other.

"Aashiyaan!" She chirps, looking at the men who look at her. She was ready to sing that song. The chemicals from the Alcohol had slowly taken over her mind, making her loose her senses and she is unknown to what she is doing and saying.

"Okay. Sing that."

"Bhai. . . Aashiyaan?"

"Ranbir's song. Barfi. . ." Swara says and he remembered, opening his mouth forming a circle.

"Sing." They insist and she clears her throat with a smile.

Before she could sing, a car horn disturbs all of them, and they move to the side, pulling Swara back with them. Swara frowns as she sees the car zooming past.

"Stupid car! It ruined my whole mood." She stubbornly utters, highly distraught by what happened few seconds ago.

"You forget that and sing." She inhales a deep breath and nods, preparing herself again but before she could say a word, a car whizzed past, making the mud splat on their clothes.

The men get angry. "You stupid idiot!" They shout, picking up a rock while stumbling and throwing it.

"This always happens! Whenever I sing, someone always creates a problem. First my parents and now these stupid idiot people! God burn their cars!" She irritatedly sighs and storms towards the bench, taking a seat on it and crossing her arms angrily.

The men stumble towards her and take a seat besides her. "Behen, you sing. We will see who will disturb you now." One of the man assures.

"Really?" She asks, glancing at the man and he nods. She emotionally gazes at him with a faint smile.

"What happened? Why are these tears in your eyes?"

She sniffs, looking down at her knees. "My Baba. . . He's a famous businessman. He always does what's best for him, he cheated on my Maa and after my Maa died, he got married again to the woman he had an affair with. From that woman, he has a son, who is older than me which means he was with that woman before marrying my Maa. I found my passion in singing and when I talked to Baba, he said I was wasting my time and I'm not going to achieve anything in this. I requested him 10 times and he agreed but he put a condition forth."

"What's the condition?" The men ask keenly, wanting to know.

"The condition is that I. . . Have to marry Jayant Shergil, the man who t. . ." She couldn't complete it due to her sobbing.

The men were not prepared to see her cry and weren't sure how to console her. "Don't cry. Please. Seeing your cry will make us sad. You sing, please sing."

Swara sniffs, wiping her tears with a frown and glances at the man.

"Do you really want me to sing?" They nod and she composes herself, ready to sing.

"Itti Si Khushi. . ." She stops as she sees Sanskaar stopping in front of them.

"Finally I found you!" He sighs, bending down and placing his hand on his knees, inhaling a deep breath.

"Why were you looking for me?" She asks and he walks forward, holding her hand and pulling her up.

She felt agitated and tried freeing his hand. "I wouldn't have came after you if you were in your senses." He says and stops, turning towards her.

Their chests meet and their face was a centimetre apart, their eyes captivated each other for a while until Swara realised her position. She moved away and he lets go of her hand. Even in a drunken state, she wouldn't allow any boys near her, especially the boys she hates.

"I'm fine." She says and starts to walk but as she took a step, she stumbles back.

"You're not fine. What is your problem? I'm trying to help you but you're. . ."

"I never asked for your help! Leave me alone." She retorts, glaring at him.

He moves back, putting his hand in mid-air "I'm sorry for even slightly caring. I made a mistake, I won't do that again. You enjoy with your friends." He says and turns to leave.

"You're too cocky." He stops, hearing that remark and turns back around, facing her.

"I'm what?"

"Cocky, idiot, flirty, stupid, player, time waster. . ."

"Hang on a second. I never did anything to you then why are you throwing those comments on me? Just admit you're jealous of me and now you're super jealous of me giving attention to Kavita."

Swara scoffs and stables her balance before she could fall to the side. "I'm, jealous of you and Kavita?"

He doesn't blink and she starts to laugh. "You have to be kidding me. I don't even like you so why will I be jealous of you and Kavita? If you think I like you and I'm separating you from Kavita then you're wrong! You. . ." Before she could continue, she falls forward and he grips her by the waist.

She slowly gazes up at him and he blinks at her. Her frown widens as she senses something through Sanskaar's eyes. "Boys like you only play with feelings, you don't like being committed don't you? Please don't break Kavita's heart, once she starts liking you, she'll never stop until her last breath. I'm scared she may go through what I went through and I can't see her like that because she's my best friend. Promise me you won't play with her and leave her after satisfying yourself. . ." Swara mummers in a soft tone with her innocence, compelling Sanskaar to start focusing on her words.

"What do you mean by what you went through?"

"Pinky promise you won't break her heart. I can see you're not the type to break a heart but he was the same. I misunderstood him and he. . ."

"Swara!" Swara stops talking and looks to the side, seeing Kavita. She wriggles out of Sanskaar's grip and walks towards her.

"Kavita, where were you? I missed you." Swara innocently pouts and pulls Kavita into a hug, Kavita hugs her back and looks at Sanskaar.

Kavita blinks at Sanskaar and he nods, walking towards them. "Do you need a lift home?"

"No, we're fine. I've got a car and. . ." Kavita stops as she feels Swara's weight on her, she stumbles a little back but manages to hold Swara.

"I guess you need help." Kavita nervously scoffs and nods at Sanskaar.

He detaches Swara from Kavita and with the help of Kavita, bends down and gets her on his back, Kavita rests Swara's head on his shoulder and he stands straight, ready to walk with Swara on his back.

There was an awkward silence between the two as they were walking.

"If you don't mind me asking, why is Swara protective about you?" He asks, breaking the silence he couldn't resist.

"She's not protective but she doesn't want me to go to boys who only use girls. She has a clear image of which boy is what type. Her judgements are never wrong and I know whoever she chooses will be best for me because I have trust in her choices." Kavita reveals, replying to his question.

"He was the same. . ." Swara's words play in his mind, making him wonder who 'He' was. He was eagerly impatient to know and couldn't resist but to ask Kavita.

"Has. . . Has Swara been betrayed before? I mean she was talking about him, who broke her heart but before she could tell me the rest, you came and she stopped."

Kavita decreases her pace while walking and looks at Sanskaar, Sanskaar senses her behaviour change, now impatiently waiting for an answer.

"Umm. . ." Kavita was hesitant, she wasn't sure how to answer him. She wasn't even sure if she should tell him what happened with her.

"You can trust me." He says as their eyes meet. "I won't leak anything out. Even though I don't like her, I won't embarrass her and insult her. Has she been through. . ."

"I don't know. Whenever I ask her, she tries to avoid the question." Kavita says and gazes down, tucking her hair-strand behind her ear.

Sanskaar realised she wasn't going to tell him and he curves a faint smile. "I understand, we don't know each other fully yet so you don't wish to share and it doesn't matter. I'll ask this question once again, maybe at the time you trust me." Kavita lifts her gazes, being impressed by his attitude but was confused as he might have said that to merely impress her.

The two stop in front of her car, the wind played its charm and blew her hair strands in front of her eyes, blocking her view. There was something different about this silence, was Kavita feeling something? Or is it still Sanskaar, who's liking for Kavita increased?

She slowly slides her hair away from her eyes with her index finger, blinking at him and he nervously smiles, carefully getting Swara off his back, she was about to slide but both of them held her at the same time, unknowingly feeling each other's touch and gazing at each other, finding answers of their unknown feeling in each other's eyes.

To Be Continued. . .

Up Next - Something began to blossom between Kavita and Sanskaar, getting the attention he wanted from Kavita, still made him feel incomplete and getting immense hate from Swara, still made him unhappy. Why?
